  1. In a way he did by taking the home town discount early and avoiding the FA opportunity. He had to know he could have gotten more on the open market. This is why the Nation loves this guy, and when it is all said and done he will go down as one of the greatest Sox ever.
  2. Get to Fenway early and enjoy everything that is going on outside and inside the Park. It is the mecca!
  3. Its the Dice-K situation they went through that might keep the Sox from even thinking about getting involved. As good as Darvish was last year he still broke down a little coming down the stretch. MLB teams have to take into consideration how the Japanese pitchers are handled differently over there.
  4. If the Sox bring up Cecchini they will use him like they did Bogaerts in 2013. The more he shows that he is ready for more playing time the more he will get. A lot also depends on what WMB does. If he gets off to a good start there is no reason to rush Cecchini, but a slow start by WMB might mean we see him earlier. I think Cecchini is going to be a keeper.
  5. Unless the Sox move some $$$$ they have no choice then to sit on the side. I haven't heard anyone come out and say it, but is Tanaka better then Darvish?
  6. I agree. I think what Pedrioa did is the exception (taking less to stay) and not the norm.
  7. The one big difference was O-Cab proved he could play under the bright lights of Boston, and there were many who doubted whether Renteria could. That proved to be true. Comparing stats of one player to another doesn't always tell the full story. I think this was a Theo mistake.
  8. Be thankful that both are under team control for awhile and the Sox don't have to deal with that situation for awhile. If Bogaerts does explode and become the star we all hope he becomes do you lock him up long term with a big contract?
  9. Cano was their best player last year. If you look at their current roster who is their best player now? I always hated seeing him come up in a big spot against the Sox. I think Papi was right when he said they made a big mistake letting him walk.
  10. The Sox having the two veteran catchers on one year contracts means that they have a lot of confidence in their young catching prospects Vazquez and Swihart. This is a lot different then what the $pankees did to their young catching prospects by signing McCann. Makes you think that once again they have over valued their prospects.
  11. The only way the $pankees can stay under the $189 and still be a consistant playoff contender is to mix in players from their farm system with their FA signings. Since their farm system is a mess right now that is hard for them to do. If the A-Rod ruling comes out and the suspension is reduced in half then they will be right up against that $189 again with numerous holes in their pitching.
  12. Since the Sox aren't in the hunt it would be nice to see someone else besides the $pankees land Tanaka. I've read he wants to play on the west coast, and that the Cubs have a strong interest in him.
  13. Orlando Cabrera was the SS that gave the spark. He wasn't the greatest , but his chemistry within the 2004 roster seem to work big time. I always wondered why they let him walk after the 2004 season. Though not a great player, he was a solid player. We now know what happened at SS over the next few years.
  14. Cano did the same to the $pankees. Cano could have probably become an all-time great with them, but having the opportunity to break the bank and be set for life is the way the modern players look at things. It is getting very rare where the top players stay in one place their whole career. Can't blame Ellsbury for taking the $$$$, but we don't have to like it.
  15. There are rumors floating around that the $pankees have interest in Balfour. They question whether they think Robertson can do the job. I to see them be able to sure up their bullpen by throwing $$$$ at the problem.
  16. Hopefully, the rumor of him wanting to play on the west coast are true. Better yet him signing with the Cubs would be great. I hate to see the $pankees get a quick fix by throwing $$$$$ at a problem.
  17. The signing of the high ticket players will continue to hurt the $pankees minor league system as their draft picks end up going to other teams.
  18. I can see Roberts getting hurt putting on his jersey when the $pankees have a presser to announce the signing of another old guy. Roberts WAS a good player, but that was awhile ago.
  19. The Sox roster is probably set and will come from the players on their 40 man roster. They probably can get more from their surplus of SPs in spring training when other teams need for increases. Plus if the Sox have spring injuries themselves in their rotation they will be in better shape. Unless the Marlins call about Stanton I think the Sox roster is set going into 2014. Drew would be the exception as the Sox are still looking at a team friendly deal with him.
  20. Is he worth 7 years and 130 million? Much like Ellsbury, Choo is a very nice player, but I don't think he is worth what the Rangers are paying him. He does gain a little respect from me for telling the $pankees their $$$$$ is not good here. As I said before, Bradley is a plus defender and has a nice approach at the plate. He will probably never be a .400 OBP guy, but I think he has the potential to be a solid offensive player, and more importantly the Sox have him under control at reasonable $$$$ for a few years.
  21. That Cub team that finally breaks their curse will have to be like the Sox 2004 team, the "Idiots" didn't let the pressures get to them and they proved that with the comeback in the ALCS in 2004. I always hope the Cubbies do well because we Sox fans have been there and done that losing thing.
  22. I agree that the Sox don't win in 2007 if the Lowell / Beckett trade is not made, but you can also argue that Theo pulled the trigger on the Nomar trade in 2004 that seem to spark the Sox who went on a strong run in August and September that led to a playoff birth as a wildcard and the rest is history. I didn't agree with everything Theo did, but there were some positive moves he made.
  23. Bradley is already a better defensive outfielder then Choo, and though not at Choo's level offensively now I think within a couple of seasons he will be on par with him. Pointless now as Choo signed with the Rangers today.
  24. Do we see Cecchini in 2014?
  25. Looks like the $panks are going for the record. The record for most players that can start to collect Social Security. If you are pushing forty New York is the place to be.
