  1. hey guess I’ll just have to continue to believe that Cora is an average manager. Playing anyone at third other than Mayer while Bregman rehabs just seems silly . Just my opinion. Now before this turns into me being another one who wants Cora, gone, let it be proclaimed that I am not. On one of the poorest defensive teams in all of baseball, Mayer gives you just a little bit of security in the infield.
  2. I think his defense alone should give him a very long leash. Pretty sure that he will hit. I’m not sure anyone is holding him back, I just like seeing him on the field as opposed to the dugout.
  3. It would take an incredible deal for us I think to move either Duran or Abreau. When you need a power bat, trading Abreau doesn’t make much sense to me. I like Duran and what he brings to us as well. Wish his strikeout rate was lower for sure. If Dobbins comes back healthy, with Fitts we will have two big, strong, young right handers good to go. At some point Hamilton is the odd man out. Watson would become my new Hamilton. By the way, I’d play Mayer everyday. This team is growing on me. I like their youth and the energy that comes with it
  4. If Dobbins comes back healthy, we’ll have to big strong right arms good to go with both him and Fitts.
  5. Got to admit that I do like Eaton but not playing Mayer against both righties and lefties is just silly. We need his defense and given half a real chance , he’ll hit lefties. Eaton would become my new Hamilton.
  6. Anytime Mayer isn’t in the lineup, you are hurting the team defensively.
  7. Hamilton at second isn’t any kind of long term answer for us but I’d rather see him there while Bregman prepares to come back as opposed to mixing and matching and experimenting to try to find an answer that temporarily just doesn’t exist. Until Bregman returns I’d leave Mayer at third and play Hamilton daily at second base. When Bregman returns, looks like Mayer goes to second. I’m anxious to see how that infield shapes up then. Leave Toro at first. I’d just like to see some consistency for awhile.
  8. I agree with you about who they might have brought in but at that point I might have brought anybody in.
  9. And I’m ok with all of this. With respect to Cora, I have never argued for his firing. I actually think that his strength is in dealing with his players on a day to day basis. That strength in my estimation is reason enough to keep him. I believe in consistency in coaching. I just have a problem understanding his basic coaching philosophies. Maybe because I did coach for a very long time, that thought is just too important to me. I truly have a hard time just being a fan when I watch any game. I constantly second guessed and hindsiighted myself which I think is important for growth. If you think that you are right all the time, I doubt that you are going to grow much regardless of your profession. One thing that we can certainly agree on is that we love the Red Sox. I actually like this team as badly as I think they execute some of the most basic fundamentals of the game.
  10. There is no question about that . The good ones question themselves. I think that Cora’s best skills are with handling and supporting his players. That is in fact a very important piece of coaching.
  11. I n Toros particular case, I think that he has done a good job at first. I think that putting him at third for whatever reason likely makes us weaker defensively. Even though it looks obvious to me that when Bregman returns, Mayer is going to second, I would have liked seeing him at third for now. Rather than shifting players around for whatever the reason might be, I would probably be that guy who would use Hamilton at second base as long as he is on the roster.
  12. When you are in the moment, often times as we all know decisions have to be made. Speculation comes with the hindsight. Posting on this site allows people to speculate. I just don’t like many of his in game decisions. That doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be the coach of this team. It also doesn’t mean that I think that I could do his job. It simply means that I’m expressing my opinion on a forum board that I don’t care for some of the ways he does business.
  13. Hey now you’re getting a tad nasty which I really don’t care for. You seem to be great with respect to your debate style when people agree with you. I believe that Cora is an average manager.. I’m ok with that. Maybe it is good enough. Not that it matters but you are wrong with respect to what I do and do not know about coaching in general. If you knew just a little bit about me, I don’t think that you would be silly enough to make this comment. How about you continue on with your little cat fights with someone else.
  14. I guess I’m in that lonely camp that would not trade away any of our young players that have solid potential until we can at least figure out our best options with respect to positional play. Right now we have too many players trying to play too many different positions on a daily basis. The mix and match daily concept drives me nuts much like the concept of lefty righty lefty righty. It is a style of baseball that I just do not like.
  15. Is this “speculative blame concept” comment for me? It is my opinion that on numerous occasions Cora has left his relief pitchers in too long.. there is nothing speculative about my statement. Once again it is my opinion which I think is quite mild compared to many I have read here.
  16. What makes you think that I didn’t notice the good plays? I did. Cora should have had someone up and throwing when the second man got on. He has done this on many occasions. He has pulled his starters early many times and left his relievers in too long often. It isn’t a novel concept I hope to try to win games. He is an average manager in my opinion and I do know that my option to doesn’t amount to much.
  17. I had 0 problem with bringing him in at all. Leaving him in too long I did not like. He has done this many times. I’m not advocating for Captain Hook here but I would like like to see him give his team at least a chance to win.
  18. This team has many superfluous parts that we could live without but nobody likely would want most of them. Trading the guys that are mentioned often like Abreau, Duran , or any of our young guys would be a massive step backwards in my opinion. With Bergman and Yoshida coming back obviously some guys will be left without a place to play. Many of them we just could live without.
  19. With Wiessert or however you spell it loading the bases with no one up in the bullpen is just not ok. It is a game that they are throwing away. I’ll say what I have said before - Cora is an average manager at best. Maybe that is good enough. He handles people well. He is not responsible for all of the poor play that we are seeing. I don’t think that getting rid of him would really amount to much. But he is average.
  20. That is as numb a baserunning play as you could possibly see. Pathetic mistake.
  21. I wonder what Bergman is thinking. Outside of being incredibly well paid, why would he want to stay here?
  22. We all do I’d say. Some don’t agree with our opinions. I’m ok with that.
  23. Hey I like the guy and you folks are right that it appears that the players like him. I don’t think that he is anything other than an average in game manager. Maybe that is good enough. Someone has to take the blame as well as the credit here. It does go both ways but lately there seems to be a heck of a lot more bad play than good. From situational baseball, use of the pitching staff, base running and play in the field. I think that most people have noticed that we haven’t been very good for some time now. Oh, I forgot to mention hitting. I understand totally that he isn’t making the plays but he is the guy leading the way. It is his team on the field. Maybe the fact that he is a nice guy and his players like him is enough. I’m not real sure that a major change with respect to him alone would solve many of our problems.
