  1. That's how it goes in life don't you think Kimmi? You probably will get treated just like you treat others. I said it before but I really don't care what people say about the team itself, coaching staff, or ownership. We all have opinions and are free to express them. Been and experience so far for me. The little games, subtle sarcasm, and nastiness only comes from just a few posters. I suppose you would get that on any discussion board.
  2. I hear that they have an ace coming in from Russia - Kamchatka Peninsula. The rage of the plains. they come from Cuba, they can come from anywhere.
  3. You're right! I am seeing a Civil Liberties jump on that one.
  4. Good positive outlook for the short term anyway. i like it. Living day to day - might not even be here tomorrow. Of that I am positive.
  5. They are all over paid. Guess that it is what the current market can stand though. The message I take out of this is that if you want to run with the big dogs you better have the ability to pay. Maybe the Sox are just flat broke. Ticket prices going up and up. It seems foolish but good pitching is expensive and great pitching even more so. Oh - I don't think that the Sox are broke just yet.
  6. If you mean by prospects, their free agent signings, I agree with you. Will Porcello pitch like he did last year and possibly even get better? Has Masterson healed? Is he really ready to go? Miley - I think that he will be an innings eater but at what level? I hope this all turns out well but as is the case going into spring training there are many unanswered questions. If the rotation has been decided, lets hope for the best.
  7. A litte garlic on the door or maybe sharpen up those fangs. Whatever works for you.
  8. If Vic stays healthy, any number of things can happen. We know very little about Castillo and the signing of Ramirez raises eyebrows. He has played in 100 plus games once in the last 5 years. At one point in time he displayed good power. Does he still have it. Can he even play left field with any competency? We would like to think so but really don't know. I am not a big Hanley Ramirez guy but he doesn't need fans. If you just listen to him he will tell you how good he is. He has on many occasions. I think that Mookie stands a chance to play a great deal with that much uncertainty out there.
  9. Fred is a baseball guy all the way. If Victorino can stay on the field we will all love him. Can he stay healthy?
  10. I agree with you with respect to the Nats. I hope that you are wrong with respect to the Sox.
  11. Hard to imagine someone that has his talent not being able help somehow. Your posts are refreshingly non-negative even in disagreement. I have learned a great deal from just reading posts. Negative comments directed toward front office personnel or actually players is much easier for me to live with then when they are directed at posters no matter what they have to say. They are entitled to their opinions. Couple of vampires on the board who only appear when they have the opportunity to attack others. They actually have on occasion something interesting to say - worth reading for sure. It would be much more interesting without the nastiness which gets attached often like a little addendum. So - keep bringing those solid posts.
  12. Watching JBJ in Portland, anyone would have been remiss not to have hit him with the old can't miss stick. It was a no-brainer. Made me realize what a tremendous step up it is from double to triple A. Moving from the minors to the bigs is a step that has to be huge. I wish him well but I don't think the Sox have great hopes for him. Pretty sure that the moves they have made have sent a message to him. I thought that he was going to be more of a contact hitter. His struggles at the plate have really surprised me.
  13. Good news is that there is room for Bill James and all of his technical disciples as well those who prefer to watch closely and then judge. A healthy combination of both philosophies make it work I think. I would prefer a signing of Shields as opposed to a trade of prospects. I believe that he just turned 33. I would think that the number of years that he is looking for might trouble Boston. I hope that it doesn't. With respect to the people on board with trading prospects - I get that also. There isn't room at the top for what they have now. Eventually something has to give. I would personally just like a sign that they have a plan. Still quite hard for me to imagine that they would spend the money that they spent on free agents and not bring in one of the best pitchers out there because of the money. If they out of the starting pitching market, I'm glad they are spending their money and not mine.
  14. I would like to see them both kept for now. I would steer away from Betts and Swihart at his time. I do think that Vasquez has to be given a chance. I think that he turns into a very very good defender and pitch caller. Long leash for him to prove that he can hit just a little - just a little north of .200. Anyone else I would think would serve as fair game to trade for a pitcher like Zimmerman. They go and get a proven young arm, you would never hear a chant from me. I don't really think that anyone really significant would listen to the chants anyway. I hope they wouldn't. Ticket sales dropping might have an effect but talk on a forum - not so much I hope.
  15. I like both Vasquez and Swihart. We have seen a small sample with respect to Vasquez at the ml level. I truly understand the desire to keep them both but if Swihart is as good a catcher as he projects to be, I don't see them together on a future Red Sox team. I don't think you move either one of them at this time but I am wondering (not that it makes any difference ) what their "plan" might be. Good catchers certainly are very valuable and I don't see Swihart moving to first or dh ing .
  16. I would certainly keep Betts. As for Swihart and Owens - I don't know. Soon there will be no room at the top for some position players if the sox do not make a move. I doubt seriously that we ever see Vasquez and Swihart together. It just doesn't seem to make any sense. As for Owens - if he was the centerpiece that brought Zimmerman to Boston, that I would do. One proven one not. Scherzer gone. I still am holding out hope. I don't understand why you would spend the kind of $ the Sox have so far on 2 position players and still not bring in the best pitcher that you can. A balance is necessary for sure but it is top quality pitching and defense first for me I guess.
  17. There are aces I guess then there are aces. I think Kershaw goes into that elite category I think.
  18. think I will. I wasn't really thinking about because i hate the traffic but I am a little excited. I will be even more excited with just one more signing.
  19. I'll preface this by saying that from a point of understanding most things financial, I am able to pay my own bills and that is about it. I do not understand the technicalities of much of the high contract discussion. If I was paying those bills I probably would. I actually think that I will learn things from following this discussion board. I am thinking that Shields may go to someone for less than $100,000,000 (hurt me putting in all those zeroes ). Do you think that Scherzer will wind up with a contract worth more than what Detroit's offer was or does he go back to Detroit? I would love to see him in Boston but a signing of either one or possibly someone else I think sends a clear message that not only is this team looking to win this year but for years to come.
  20. I think that it is very odd that one or both of these guys have not already been signed. January 18th seems a little late for these types of signings. I am going to guess that there is a lot of stuff going on that we don't hear anything about. Not even a whisper. Doesn't really appear that there are many teams out there willing to pay the big bucks for longer term deals for either of them. I hope the Sox are in the hunt. I prefer one to Hamels.
  21. A little redundant on my part but I think that a Sherzer signing, although painful monetarily, could secure this team's future for a number of years. A fairly young talented pitching staff with some good young arms having time to develop.
  22. You are right there. Have to look at guys like Holt under a different microscope. I think the Sox have done a good job recently of recognizing value in players like him. A poor attitude and clubhouse disruption doesn't tend to stick around in boston very long. that is the way it should be.
  23. Being a team player and being coachable at any level are valued attributes in athletes. I am sure that people that play against Pedroia probably do think that he is a bit arrogant. We just consider him a winner. It's ok to have a little chip on your shoulder and he proves that you can still be a decent person. The Sox have a taken a few chances in the past. Some have worked - others have not. The toughest and best athletes that I ever worked with with good humans. During a contest, you never really knew what they were thinking because they were able stay focused on the job and did not react to anything that came toward them from the outside. The good ones know that it isn't all about them.
  24. I am very excited about this team. I don't think that it is the typical excitement that I feel every year. They are young almost across the board. They appear to be very talented. Just a couple more moves and they might take me well into my old age. I think that they are on the threshold of being as good as they have ever been. I might buy those tickets after all. I might also even slide on over to Ft. Myers if I can get out of New England.
