    I don't want to get in to an arguement but there really is no question at all that a great deal of luck was involved in Koji's banner year. Both bad luck and good luck. His performance was outstanding and not the product of luck but the fact alone that he got the opportunity to close that season was very lucky for us and unlucky for Bailey and Hanrahan. It certainly was no managerial stroke of genius that ultimately put him in that role. Lucky for us.

    No - I grew up about 15 miles away. Moved to Harrison in 1981. Still do a lot of business at both stores. It was a wonderful place to raise our family.

    I live about 4 miles from the aiport. My father flew a little piper cub out of there in the early 60's. I used to run up around that ridge very often. One of the most beautiful places! Looks like we got something in common. It is still pretty nice up here in western Maine. Route 35 is a little rough during frost heave season.

    I live in Harrison. I could hit both lakes (Crystal and Long) with a driver from my front lawn. Now that is interesting! I am also fairly familiar with the Old Port!

    I am from Maine. I did watch the Bruins as well during the Bobby Orr era. Also on channel 38! I got you but just by 2 years. My God - you are one of the "old ones" as well. God help our lot of know-nothings. What wonderful thrills we have had through the years. Hate to admit this but when I was young the Patriots did not exist and I grew up a Giants fan as did most of my friends. 1958- Colts vs Giants - channel 13. I was hooked. My daughters both live in MA today and their husbands are football and Patriot fanatics. I have learned to appreciate that team and franchise - no choice!

    I can still remember sitting by the radio (of all things right - I'm one of those old guys) and listening to the Celtics. Baseball and basketball have always been two of my greatest loves. The Celtics were a constant reliable force that I could count on as a kid growing up. After Russell and Havlicek went, I never thought I would see them compete at that level again and then along came Larry. 1986 - Could be the greatest team of all time. Point being - man did those teams help me get to the spring and summer.

    I would really like to see that one big signing. I think that a clear majority of fans, writers, and the rest of us wannabes expected or maybe still even expect it to happen. Whether it happens or not, I agree that there is reason for guarded optimism. I really can't say that I am much of a Stephen Wright fan but who knows that may change as well. I do like some of those youngsters though. The health of that rotation will go a long way toward determining how the season goes. Let's hope that glass of water is half full and not half empty.

    I don't think that it is an unreasonable thought at all and if you expect it, I hope that you are right. That means that you must expect that staff to stay healthy and whole for the season. I also believe that good pitching can indeed be successful. If they stay healthy, they could be good. Once again I hope that I am wrong but I don't like the health record of 3 out of the 5. I don't think that you can be successful with one good and one average pitcher in any division at that level. I like thinking that they will all stay healthy and pitch the way many think they can. I just don't expect it. If this is the end product, I'll take what I get like the rest of us. You obviously are a positive person. I like that - so for the record - Renaudo,Barnes, Johnson, Owens, Rodriguez I think makes a pretty 5 at the triple A level.

    I enjoy reading your posts and I do like your philosophical outlook toward the over paying of players not just pitchers. I also like your optimism. You might be right. If the glass is half empty though, I am thinking that based on past history you only have two pitchers there that could go a full season without at least one stint on the DL. If there are no more moves made, we better hope that some of those young good arms playing in Rhode Island are ready to go.

    You may very well be right with this assumption. On paper I do think that they look much improved but for me I choose to reserve judgement. I hope it all works out but there are just too many ifs and buts out there. American League East looking weak will help. Obviously third base has been taken care of and the acquisition of Porcello is a real upgrade but after that I think we just cheer them on and hope that they perform like many people think that they can.

    I guess the good news is that I know I for one haven't seen anything viable in print that has even suggested that Pedroia might be traded for anybody. Once again all conjecture and rumor. A cute one - got us all talking. It's a lomg winter isn't it. The bait was thrown out there and it got some hits quickly though didn't it.

    I know that you are familiar with the old expression - "when it is all said and done there is usually more said than done". Seems to be the case here. I'm going to take a little nap and wait for something substantial to happen as well.

    Should have added - I just think that every writer dealing with the game in general is throwing out possibilities. Not a bad thing necessariy. I enjoy reading about them.

    Sure is conjecture. It was interesting. Well written. When it looks like no one knows what is going to happen, quite often nothing does. I could live with the deal personally.

    Everything that I have read so far seems to be absolute speculation. Almost like writers trying to create news - something like us. No better - no worse. Zimmerman, Strasburg (sp), Fister are all thrown out there. I think that Owens certainly has a chance to someday pitch at the same level Kelly is at. I would trade either or both though. Not sure that we have seen Kelly's ceiling. He is still a young man. I would not trade Rodriguez. Of the pitchers on the farm - Barnes, Johnson, Owens, and Rodriguez, you may someday have some inning eating middle of the rotation guys. Of that group Rodriguez intrigues me the most. It's a fairly young group with no sure things. Going to take some time. I am thinking that the Nats are going to look hard for up the middle help.

    Got to get into this one. Not sure I like seeing Kelly go particularly but it certainly depends upon what they can get for them. I don't think that is going to get us that pitcher. Bullpen help? Good bullpen help. I think if you give up kelly in a deal, you need to get some good return.
