  1. Sorry - I meant to say - It not it's. I sense semantics are important to you. I also sense just a bit of condescension in your tone. You see I am proud but actually quite humble. I hope that you might be as right as you think you are with respect to my opinion.
  2. It is my opinion. It is not wrong. It's just differs from yours. That being said, I'm sure that I don't have to tell you what opinions are like.
  3. My take on this thread is that many of the current posters are somewhat satisfied with the current pitching staff composition. The discussion did drift a bit as to what type of lineup it would take to support their potential staff . That lineup does not exist at this time. With respect to Joe Kelly, I am fine with his potential but projecting him to be more than a solid 3 much like the rest of this staff isn't being fair to him.
  4. I agree with you! We aren't talking yaz, Evans, Fisk, lynn, rice and the rest of the boys here. I would pleasantly be surprised if this team becomes a bludgeoner. I realize I am on a bit of a rant tonight but I really feel like we are all expected to think that we are just loaded up and ready to go. Average, average, average! Give them all coaches awards and call it good. They participated - they get an award!
  5. Great irony. Most of you could live with a great defensive catcher who can't hit his weight but see it differently with respect to the ss position. I don't! Up the middle, fielding has to be first. 2,4,6,8!
  6. It's turning in to a crude joke. I am beginning to think that people truly think that this current team will be competitive in the long haul. Why? Starting pitching is not there currently. End of story. Do people think that this team's hitting is going to carry them. I don't think so. Negative comment on my part but based on history it is called reality. I will spare you any future abuse. I have suffered through some rather lean years but for most of them I had a little hope. In the gm of basketball, if you have the best player you always have a chance to win. At this time, for the right deal, I would trade any member of this current team. I do not believe that we have the beat player at any position. Do people think that this team looks good because everybody else just sucks?
  7. Thank you. I am just a little to old fashioned.
  8. Do I get to guess what all those letters stand for?
  9. Great point! Sad that it has gotten to this but it has.
  10. First of all your post is innocent and good - please don't take this the wrong way! What to hell is a WAR? My interests are much simpler - ERA- Innings pitched - hits allowed- Sometimes I consider strikeouts and walks but really not often. I am not guilty of over thinking for sure. He may be ranked ahead of the mentioned pitchers but I sure would take at least 5 of them a long time before I would take him.
  11. That might be a good idea. I think that if he stays healthy he will get better. I wouldn't like if I thought that by locking him up now it meant we stopped going after anyone else. I do like the idea - different
  12. Like I said - get along go along. Nomar could sure make the great play. The routine , very basic play just average but a good average. I don't think ss play in the field has hurt them much over the past 9 years.
  13. Last comment = just can't leave it alone. Sherzer I really think will be right back in Detroit when the dust settles. Don't know where Shields will wind up. It kind of feels like the Sox are going to start the season with what they currently have. I truly hope not. Nothing close to a stopper and maybe a #2 in Porcello. The rest don't really inspire me to go stand in line for tickets. I coached the game to long to feel any comfort in a shortstop that doesn't look like he is going to be able to get it done in the field. If he hits great, but folks he is a shortstop. If you think for one minute that the fact that he might hit makes what he does in the field acceptable, you are wrong. I am a lifelong fan but I wish I saw as much there to get excited about as some of you folks think there is. Just time to get along and go along.
  14. Topic has been beaten literally to death. Time for a new thread. As he ages and if he gets bigger and stronger, I do think that he will become a solid hitter. As a shortstop, his hand speed may stay the same but his foot speed, overall quickness, and mobility will not. He will stick around. Whether he proceeds as a shortstop or even a member of the Red Sox, I guess we will just have to wait and see. His adequacy in the field may be good enough. We will see.
  15. I have said all along that I think that he will hit. Unfortunately for us, when most think of a ss their hitting prowess is not the first thing that you look at. He is an up the middle defender who will have to cover much more ground than he did last year. I hope that he is up to the job. it's a personal thing. If he hit .260 and was a gold glove ss, I would very happy. Maybe even .250.
  16. We all look forward to the spring. And like always, we have high expectations. I will support them no matter what and I will agree that the pitching staff that they have right now is better than what they finished with last year but not as good as what they started the season with. Looks to me like they are loaded up with 3,4, and 5 starters. I like the Porcello sign. I am a wait and see on Miley since he is moving to the American League. Masterson ( whom I do like ) has a lot to prove. Is he able to get back to a decent level once again? I like Joe Kelly. If this is it, just too many question marks for me.
  17. Xb I think will hit but he will be a liability at the ss position. Worth keeping but not as a ss. You play an average at best ss, you better have a dominant pitching staff.
  18. If Victorino is healthy, and gets through the spring, He will start in the outfield and be the best player out there.
  19. Good luck to David Ross. A very good catcher and a class act. Looks to me like a statistical wash. I am sure that the Sox know what they are getting. Good luck to Will Middlebrooks as well. Hope he develops into the player we all thought that he would.
  20. Sorry about that. I got a little confused. Cecchini's age (24) not Gallardo. If people have any faith at all in what is coming out of the minor league system, I still don't see giving up young arms for him.
  21. Rethinking this I do think getting him for Craig and Chechinne(sp) would make sense since they will not be playing for us anytime soon. Clearly I am not into the stats quite like you. I focus on Ip-hits allowed-and era. I would feel a lot better about this if I thought he was 24. I think that he is older. if anyone gave him up for Barnes, Renaudo, and Marrero, doesn't that tend to say something about our current "potential" minor leaguers.
  22. I reálly do hope you are right. I am not a big statistical freak but I guess I just don't see it. I think that he would be quite comparable to what we just got. I am a greedy! I want more.
  23. Really? Gallardo? ok i guess- add him to the pile we are heaping up. I would agree with you that Cecchini is expendable but only because of the Panda's contract. How many middle of the rotation guys can you have before you go after the real deal?
  24. Castillo has my absolute support as of right now. If Alex Cora gives him that kind of endorsement, he has to have some special qualities. Alex Cora was and is a team first kind of guy. He did his job as well as he could. Team player!
  25. You speak my language. Best pitched game I believe I ever saw at Fenway was in 1978- Did not like it much but it was great to see - Louisianna Lightening blew it by all the big dogs - even Captain Carl. He just did not look big enough to do it. But he did it. What a year he had.
