  1. ok - Now we are talking my language - the age of hyper specialization - I am not sure exactly where you are coming from but I am not sure that the designation of a middle relief specialist- a setup man - and a closer clearly and cleanly defined is all that important. You need good people in the bullpen. I may be wrong but it kind of sounds like I am on your wavelength.
  2. Good for you. You deserve to boast a bit. Your experience gives you great insight into the game.
  3. Curious to know why you believe that Barnes and Johnson are ahead of Rodriguez? I get it with Owens. At this point in time I would still lean toward Rodriguez but that's just me I guess.
  4. Good to know - absolutely loved watching him play -
  5. I see the shift as being just part of the strategy of the game. I think that good hitters find ways to cope with it. I still like the game as is. Just wish both leagues had the same rules with respect to the dh.
  6. Interesting - I think I know what you mean. The only thing that we really know about either of these two is that Vasquez is solid behind the plate and might become an outstanding catcher. He looks good back there. Calls a good game and frames the plate very well. His major league experience is still a small sample but he looked very good defensively and not so good at the plate. Swihart looks to have great potential both at the plate as well as behind it. We just don't know what will happen. Might turn out to be a good problem to have.
  7. Assuming Swihart is going to become what we he hope he becomes for a moment. If Vasquez becomes just an adequate hitter and continues to be an outstanding catcher, do you think that the Sox would keep two hopefully outstanding catchers and use one of them as a dh? It probably is the most important defensive position in the game - If both are top quality catchers, I think one gets moved. In any event, if one becomes the backup, my guess would be that the better hitter would become your everyday catcher. All that being said, I think that this is a big year for both of these guys to prove themselves. To me it seems like the whole team is pretty much like that.. Been a lot of predictions, but nobody knows what will happen when the games start being played. Kelly says he is winning a cy young this year. Hope he does but I wouldn't bet on that one either.
  8. I was going to add that for sure. He was beautiful to watch both at the plate and in the field. Remember that game in Detroit - early season 75?
  9. If you are sox fan, at this point you either support the front office and what they have done or you don't I guess. There are so many questions with respect to how they will play. I liked Ojeda and Tudor as well. They should be better offensively - we hope for the best. From a pitching perspective - who knows - roll the dice.
  10. I still have a hard time seeing this one happening. If what has been written and said is true, Swihart is also the real deal behind the plate. I don't see Vasquez and Swihart on the same roster long term because of this. If he is the catcher people think that he is, I don't see him changing positions or serving in a backup role.
  11. I still feel that if Freddie had stayed in Boston, his chances of being in the Hall today would have been very good.
  12. Thanks for the information. There is a good chance that my wife and I will make the trip over.
  13. Swihart - Rodriguez - Owens
  14. I'll stand behind what I said based on what I read. It was not stated as a fact. Honestly I could care less where they are "ranked". I made a credible point. No one would ever expect you to be respectful, but how about you maybe starting a conversation as opposed to simply attacking. .Oh wait - I think I can guess what's next. I am not on your lofty intelligence peak and have nothing of value to offer. You are a twister of words and a crude designer of insults.
  15. Couple things here - He responded to me not the other way around. The numbers are correct - Owens 2 - Rodriguez 5- read the fine print. The upside of Rodriguez is greater than the upside of Owens. Not according to me according to whoever compiles the data. Read the fine print. You can defend that jackass until the cows come home if you like. If I say something that is my opinion then I guess that is my right. If I say it is a fact which I didn't then you can question it all you like.
  16. Can you still get decent to tickets to Sox games in Fort Myers 700? I tried to sneak over there last year but everything was sold out. I am going to be in central Florida during some of spring training. I would like to see them play. I was out 5 times in 24 hours moving snow around up here. Tough place to be this time of year.
  17. Yes I do. No one can write what he writes and not be a mean spirited person. Rarely does he create. He seems to only to rebut. The opinion policeman I guess. I am an Owens fan trust me, I just don't think that he is as far along as people would like him to be. I think that Rodriguez is ahead of him. Just my opinion I guess.
  18. read the fine print

  20. Breslow and Layne - Layne deserves a shot based on the way he pitched last year. I don't think Boston saw Renaudo even in a starting role. Possibly in the bullpen. If that is the case, it could be a good move. Problem is that none of their young pitchers other than Rodriguez project to even being close to top of the rotation pitchers. Maybe the thought is Owens but he appears to be behind Rodriguez. I still expect a move to be made at some point in time.
  21. Was thinking that myself . I like Layne. Maybe more than Breslow.
  22. Thanks for the advice Fred.
  23. Thank you
  24. potential=potential I guess. I don't like the trade myself. A young potential talent traded away. A starting pitcher nontheless. Renaudo is another one who might have needed a little more time.
  25. An absolutely true statement. When I first started posting, I was surprised with the nastiness that seemed to accompany numerous posts from just a few posters. I struggle with this. Everyone has the right to express themselves. If there are people that think that their imagined intelligence gives them the right to little tolerance for opinions that they don't agree with, that is very sad. I've taken the bait myself a few times and I am not proud of that. I do not like people like this and would have no problem telling them that to their face. I would not do it on a forum board. Little man copout and that's it.
