  1. Now I see what you mean with the irony. That one had me stumped for a little while.
  2. I haven't been posting here very long but no moderator I guess? Did not realize that when I registered. Common courtesy and respect for other opinions not a viable expectation?
  3. So true - We hope they have a plan.
  4. You won't get blasted by me. I think that it is sad that anybody gets blasted for stating their opinion anyway. He has had a Pedroia like winter. I think that it very well may pay off for him. Sounds like he has really worked on his overall quickness with a concentration on his footwork. He is young and for him to be willing to put in the hard work I think says a lot about him and his potential. He just needed a little more range and he might have found it. I agree with you that last year he looked slow footed and that did put him in positions where bad throws had to come from. I am really curious to see how he looks this spring.
  5. I will leave you folks with a little parting thought. Really not a fan of XB's defensive ability at all last year. I do think that he will hit. He has my respect by how hard he has worked this winter. It sounds like he knew exactly what he needed to work on and has addressed the issues. Quicker feet, better lateral movement. If he wants it as badly as it sounds like he does, I'm willing to believe in him. He is big, young and athletic. If he has done and continues to do the work it takes, he very well might become a special player.
  6. One of Rick Pitino's finest moments
  7. That looks like the mitt Gus Triandoos used to catch Hoyt Wilhelm.
  8. A couple meaning two hopefully everyone would agree with . The only conclusion that could be jumped to at this time is that Vasquez is a solid major league catcher. It is early, but I think that he looks pretty good. Another conclusion might be that various other teams would like to trade for Swihart.
  9. I remember watching Tudor and Ojeda . I always thought they were capable of more I share your concerns about Miley.
  10. No Ofden there is plenty of in between for me . Just a general observation of what I perceive the tone of the board to be. Not really a very significant thing to say I guess . As for me personally, I have not always liked the decisions of management but I have always been able to live with them. How about you?
  11. I hope that simply for the sake of greatness that we are wrong but I also find it tough to believe that we will have a better man behind the plate than Vasquez. If Swihart is, let's hope we don't let another Carlton Fisk get away!
  12. I think that you are absolutely right about the patience factor (don't know if that is spelled correctly or not). We are all passionate fans and speaking just for myself I tend to want things yesterday that I can't have until tomorrow. I think it might be a New England trait. We aren't in bad shape many of us just want more I guess. I am willing to wait. We have a young team that could be special. It is nice to be told to stay grounded and to wait by someone in a I decent way. I appreciate it and I am trying to follow that advice.
  13. I agree with everyone that the offense needed to be upgraded. I am hoping that it is. Sandoval as opposed to Middlebrows is pretty clear. Ramirez as opposed to Cespedes - not so sure. We will wait and see. with respect to the rest of the offense, I think that it hinges on a lot of ifs. i want things to all work out. We shall see. Pitching staff, offense - who knows. I'm a fan so I am hoping for the best. We shall see. And honestly I don't care about what people think the rest of the teams in the east have. I truly am only concerned about one team being as good as they can be.
  14. ok - Now we are talking my language - the age of hyper specialization - I am not sure exactly where you are coming from but I am not sure that the designation of a middle relief specialist- a setup man - and a closer clearly and cleanly defined is all that important. You need good people in the bullpen. I may be wrong but it kind of sounds like I am on your wavelength.
  15. Good for you. You deserve to boast a bit. Your experience gives you great insight into the game.
  16. Curious to know why you believe that Barnes and Johnson are ahead of Rodriguez? I get it with Owens. At this point in time I would still lean toward Rodriguez but that's just me I guess.
  17. Good to know - absolutely loved watching him play -
  18. I see the shift as being just part of the strategy of the game. I think that good hitters find ways to cope with it. I still like the game as is. Just wish both leagues had the same rules with respect to the dh.
  19. Interesting - I think I know what you mean. The only thing that we really know about either of these two is that Vasquez is solid behind the plate and might become an outstanding catcher. He looks good back there. Calls a good game and frames the plate very well. His major league experience is still a small sample but he looked very good defensively and not so good at the plate. Swihart looks to have great potential both at the plate as well as behind it. We just don't know what will happen. Might turn out to be a good problem to have.
  20. Assuming Swihart is going to become what we he hope he becomes for a moment. If Vasquez becomes just an adequate hitter and continues to be an outstanding catcher, do you think that the Sox would keep two hopefully outstanding catchers and use one of them as a dh? It probably is the most important defensive position in the game - If both are top quality catchers, I think one gets moved. In any event, if one becomes the backup, my guess would be that the better hitter would become your everyday catcher. All that being said, I think that this is a big year for both of these guys to prove themselves. To me it seems like the whole team is pretty much like that.. Been a lot of predictions, but nobody knows what will happen when the games start being played. Kelly says he is winning a cy young this year. Hope he does but I wouldn't bet on that one either.
  21. I was going to add that for sure. He was beautiful to watch both at the plate and in the field. Remember that game in Detroit - early season 75?
  22. If you are sox fan, at this point you either support the front office and what they have done or you don't I guess. There are so many questions with respect to how they will play. I liked Ojeda and Tudor as well. They should be better offensively - we hope for the best. From a pitching perspective - who knows - roll the dice.
  23. I still have a hard time seeing this one happening. If what has been written and said is true, Swihart is also the real deal behind the plate. I don't see Vasquez and Swihart on the same roster long term because of this. If he is the catcher people think that he is, I don't see him changing positions or serving in a backup role.
