  1. How much land does John Henry own in and around the offices of the Boston globe?
  2. just outside of the city Mr. Henry owns enough land to easily build a beautiful park. Once again, just off the interstate.
  3. Much babble about nothing really. Everybody knew what we were getting with the signing. Nobody should have expected him to be any different. He is what he is. Considering all of the fatsoes, steroid ripped, short ones and tall ones that have had success, I would expect nothing different from him. He who thinks that you need great mobility to play third base is foolish. good instincts and quick hands. He has them both. I think that we will all be happy with him. He wants to be here! Let him be. "Fat bottomed Girls They Make the Rockin" World Go round."
  4. come on Pal - he said he was going to win a Cy Young!
  5. Oh I agree. I just wanted to gripe about something. I won't personally go to Fenway again. I do understand why people want to go and why they love it so. I have not gotten bigger over the years but those seats sure feel smaller. Actually the best experiences I had were on hot summer days listening to the Sox on the radio. days gone by that were pretty good. I was able to live with the losing. I just loved and still love the game. It is the only thing that I wanted to do as a kid- play ball. It took me until college to realize that just being able to field the ball wasn't quite enough. All glove - no bat. heres to Curt Gowdy!
  6. I agree with you here on Cueto. I would prefer him certainly to Hamels.
  7. If I had seen Jordan guarded by Havlicek maybe he would move up from third on my list and maybe he would slip down a few notches. It is all hypothetical - 1.=Russell 2. = Magic 3.=Jordan I am sadly biased. I understand that. The game has changed dramatically and not for the better. Check the height stats for me on Z. Beatty, N Thurmond, L Ellis, I would even throw Willis Reed in there.
  8. I agree with your list. What I have read about Rodriguez suggests that his "potential ceiling" is high - as in 2 or maybe the top of the rotation. He is just 21. Physically he looks like the real deal and already comes equipped with ample power. Do you know anything else about him? Mental makeup for instance.
  9. When they do make a move, I think that it will hurt many people who would like to keep all prospects. You have to give to get and I don't think teams will want our tired iron. They will want youth and they will want good.
  10. I needed that. I'm sitting here delayed in the airport. Humor needed. Need to get out of the northeast.
  11. I just hope he is not dealing the way I just did for my car. I am just concerned that the price of the "real estate" is apt to go up.
  12. You are absolutely right . He has been nothing but upbeat as he should and has to be. At the same time it really is no surprise that he continues an open line with the Phillies for one.
  13. We'll see - hope you are right. I just think that it could turn into a ransom case when dealing with the Sox. It won't be a surprise to anybody when they decide to deal. Just the fact that they are talking about it sends the message that in fact they really aren't quite as optimistic going forward with that pitching staff as they would like us to believe.
  14. It is an amazing thing that is happening today. The "regular" fan is being squeezed out and I feel sorry for them. My brother-in-law was at the Super Bowl. He had a great time but just didn't see enough real football fans.
  15. Hope you are close with the 88 although it does seem very optimistic to me. That is a good thing I think. I also tend to think that dealing for that elite pitcher at the trading deadline is going to be more costly than the price today.
  16. I am pretty well convinced that he would have been great on any team in any era. He was never a back to the basket player but when he needed to score - he scored. Actually Chamberlain should probably get a few votes as well. Winning certainly makes them all look good. There are some who don't consider Dan Marino to be one of the all time great QB's because of no ring. That's a joke. With respect to Russell, there really wasn't anything that he couldn't do. The Celtics of old were great for sure but without Russell not so much.
  17. I have every intention of staying upbeat about this team but my overall approach will be one of - wait and see - This is a big year for everyone in a management position. There is no question that there have been some good upgrades but I am not quite as excited as I think people want us to be. A realistic approach this year is not a bad one to have. It will be nice if everything comes together. I think that this is a very difficult team to predict. I want to think that they are capable of winning between 85 and 90 games. I am just not ready to place any bets. I think that we will soon see really what kind of a manager we have. He has a tough job with lots of decisions to be made-lots. I like him. I hope that he gets it done.
  18. I like your list. I am changing my hockey choice to Gretzky (I loved Orr though) bb - still Russell - just on general principal but if my heart wasn't doing the picking Magic would of course get the nod. Ruth still tops the baseball list - Mays just ahead of Aaron for me. Koufax could have been the best ever for a short time.
  19. He certainly was one of the most dynamic running backs that I ever saw. Sad - I still do not put in the category of a Sanders, Payton, or Sayles.
  20. I was just going to say as much. You beat me to the punch. They have basically already eliminated the real fan in many respects. It has truly become an entertainment industry. A real Sox fan should make the pilgrimage but if you have expectations of anything other than green grass and blue sky good luck with that. I thought that at one time a plan was in place for a new park just south of the city and just off I 95. I am sorry if this sounds disloyal (actually I'm not) but as ticket prices continue to go up, you really are "entitled" to have some expectations with respect to the facility. Prices don't seem to be going up in nickel and dime increments either.
  21. I guess that I hope that most stadiums are more comfortable than Fenway. For the sake of the fans.
  22. And how did that work out for Red? Didn't the lakers love coming to that old "dump". Turn up the heat in that visitor's locker room. If I thought the Sox got any advantage playing in that stadium, I would favor keeping it. They don't. It serves as a wonderful piece of nostalgia and that is about it. I have been all over that park and would now opt for standing room only and just wander around.
  23. Swihart - Rodriguez - Owens - Devers
  24. I like this list of untouchable minor leaguers. I would like to see them keep Johnson as well but something as to be given to get anything.
  25. I am in Providence at this time. The people I am around for the most part are some of the most ardent fans of all Boston sports teams that I have ever seen.
