  1. That's for sure. Now let's see - How much money did they spend this off season? It is for sure how the money is spent that makes the difference. I hope that it all works out.
  2. Thanks 700 - You might have me figured out. I have been very lucky in many ways. I do think that this discussion is good and needful. I would never discredit the value and use of technological data, but if I couldn't communicate with someone on a personal basis, I would probably hire someone who had what might appear to be fewer qualifications simply because I am a people person. I have seen many over qualified people become absolute failures because they lacked the ability to simply communicate. You have to pass the most basic of tests - you have to be a good person. How many people have we seen that could have been great in many different fields if they had just been a little bit nicer to people? Same way on any team or in any clubhouse - if you can't get along, you don't belong.
  3. You are right. It really didn't add much to the conversation. I wasn't really trying to be sarcastic. Just being truthful. Guess I was just lucky to get in and and out at the right time. Now you said you were a consultant - right? What exactly do you do? Before you get your hackles up, i'm just asking a question. If I ever gave anyone the impression that I had "infinite athlete building wisdom", that wasn't my intent. I had fun doing what I did that's all. I'll admit it you gave me a spanking. I'm sorry I stuck my nose in there. Not my place.
  4. I 've been following this thread and man do I ever feel stupid. Can't imagine how I made it in the real world without the copious amount of analytical technical data that gets used today. I'm not even sure why anyone ever listened to me or my opinion when it came to preparing athletes for competition. Sometimes people still listen. I feel sorry for them.
  5. If there is room and if you do not want to mess with the middle of the city, seems like a good place for a new park.
  6. Are the Globe offices down there? I am pretty sure that is one of the areas that was discussed as being a potential site for the new ballpark..
  7. My only question will come when I think that they are basing their starting outfield on the size of a player's contract. Personally, all things being equal, Castillo would have to be the one coming off the bench in my mind.
  8. That is the general area - i am not sure how much land he owns there. I'm not really sure how much land there is there.
  9. No - I am actually glad he had the nuts to say it whether he truly believes it or not and he might mean it. On their current pitching staff, if it doesn't become overly political, I could see him getting the start on opening day. i like him. and Pal - I also like Dempster - great mental toughness.
  10. Now Spud, i am with you almost all of the time and I agree with you that George Scott was a brilliant first baseman but even after he lost a little weight, I never confused him with anybody who had a lick of speed as he lumbered down the line. I'll give you that he was certainly an upgrade over Dick Stuart but he was no Vada Pinson (remember him) getting out of that batter's box. Those teams the boomer played on were sure fun for me to watch!
  11. How much land does John Henry own in and around the offices of the Boston globe?
  12. just outside of the city Mr. Henry owns enough land to easily build a beautiful park. Once again, just off the interstate.
  13. Much babble about nothing really. Everybody knew what we were getting with the signing. Nobody should have expected him to be any different. He is what he is. Considering all of the fatsoes, steroid ripped, short ones and tall ones that have had success, I would expect nothing different from him. He who thinks that you need great mobility to play third base is foolish. good instincts and quick hands. He has them both. I think that we will all be happy with him. He wants to be here! Let him be. "Fat bottomed Girls They Make the Rockin" World Go round."
  14. come on Pal - he said he was going to win a Cy Young!
  15. Oh I agree. I just wanted to gripe about something. I won't personally go to Fenway again. I do understand why people want to go and why they love it so. I have not gotten bigger over the years but those seats sure feel smaller. Actually the best experiences I had were on hot summer days listening to the Sox on the radio. days gone by that were pretty good. I was able to live with the losing. I just loved and still love the game. It is the only thing that I wanted to do as a kid- play ball. It took me until college to realize that just being able to field the ball wasn't quite enough. All glove - no bat. heres to Curt Gowdy!
  16. I agree with you here on Cueto. I would prefer him certainly to Hamels.
  17. If I had seen Jordan guarded by Havlicek maybe he would move up from third on my list and maybe he would slip down a few notches. It is all hypothetical - 1.=Russell 2. = Magic 3.=Jordan I am sadly biased. I understand that. The game has changed dramatically and not for the better. Check the height stats for me on Z. Beatty, N Thurmond, L Ellis, I would even throw Willis Reed in there.
  18. I agree with your list. What I have read about Rodriguez suggests that his "potential ceiling" is high - as in 2 or maybe the top of the rotation. He is just 21. Physically he looks like the real deal and already comes equipped with ample power. Do you know anything else about him? Mental makeup for instance.
  19. When they do make a move, I think that it will hurt many people who would like to keep all prospects. You have to give to get and I don't think teams will want our tired iron. They will want youth and they will want good.
  20. I needed that. I'm sitting here delayed in the airport. Humor needed. Need to get out of the northeast.
  21. I just hope he is not dealing the way I just did for my car. I am just concerned that the price of the "real estate" is apt to go up.
  22. You are absolutely right . He has been nothing but upbeat as he should and has to be. At the same time it really is no surprise that he continues an open line with the Phillies for one.
  23. We'll see - hope you are right. I just think that it could turn into a ransom case when dealing with the Sox. It won't be a surprise to anybody when they decide to deal. Just the fact that they are talking about it sends the message that in fact they really aren't quite as optimistic going forward with that pitching staff as they would like us to believe.
  24. It is an amazing thing that is happening today. The "regular" fan is being squeezed out and I feel sorry for them. My brother-in-law was at the Super Bowl. He had a great time but just didn't see enough real football fans.
  25. Hope you are close with the 88 although it does seem very optimistic to me. That is a good thing I think. I also tend to think that dealing for that elite pitcher at the trading deadline is going to be more costly than the price today.
