ok - good - glad someone is doing all that factoring other than me.

So if we follow this obvious line of reasoning that a strikeout and an out caused by a batted ball amount to the same thing basically does this make a true power pitcher less significant? No more K-cards get held up. Strikeouts to innings pitched statistic is less important. Suffer my ignorance please - this is not a subject I think deeply about. But I also pay to have my taxes done as well.

Come on Ogden, i know that you have heard that one before. It was a phrase used with Kingdom. Throughout his career, I think that it was fairly accurate.

Sad about Piersall - remember him going up the screen behind home plate. Also remember him going around the bases backwards after a home run with the Mets. Might have been his last one.

Oh God - believe me I understand that. I will always be a hit to contact kind of guy but I really do see the value in those big hitters. Kingman for awhile was just one of those guys who was fun to talk about. I am one who still does not like to see the football in the air. 2 out of 3 things that can happen are bad. That, I am sure would be a minority opinion as well.

I choose to take the path less travelled here - the second baseman might even boot the ball. I speak from experience.

It's back to the past - Dave Kingman - a clout or an out. I still like to see the ball in play. Lots of things can go right from a hitter - baserunner perspective when contact is made.

Look what I started - It has to be the slow season. I am sure that Henry lets out long leashes but ultimately his vote carries more weight than all the others combined.

I think that Bogaerts will be fine. I also think that when that hard throwing youngster becomes available it won't matter one bit whether most of the balls hit off him are in the air or on the ground, (it's more likely that many of them will not be hit at all) they will pay whatever they need to get him. Whoever he is, he will be worth it. My question is --- who might it be. Doesn't look to me as though this franchise is going to cut corners when it comes to getting who they want.

One more time - we should all say this together as we pledge our allegiance to our most sweat stained Red Sox cap - If they want them badly enough, they will get them. Look what they have done! $ be damned. Somewhere like it or not Big George is actually smiling down (or up) on us and saying - It's about freaking time. Maybe not freaking.

Oh no we don't disagree - The Red Sox would have loved to have Lester back on their terms. That is the key. I truly think that they easily could have outbid the Cubs if they had wanted to. I still think that if the pitcher becomes available that they want, they will get him.

Oh come on Kimmi - What's up with that meat of the order stuff. Like everyone else, I would have liked to have seen Lester come back. There is no denying the fact that he was made a significant offer as well. He indeed would look great in that rotation right now. There were too many things that happened last year for me to totally buy into the theory that they wanted him back badly. I would even go out on a limb and say they were pretty sure that their offer to him was going to get trumped. I don't see long term deals(5,6 years) being offered to many players by the Sox unless they in their mid 20's. I know that I may be giving them more credit than they deserve for sticking to a plan that gets more evident each day but just my opinion. I would be very surprised if either Victorino or Napoli are around next year. Napoli maybe as a potential dh.

I'll try this another way. How about the size of contracts being paid.. Couple of things here - there are some on board who think that the Red Sox might be restricted by some sort of budget considerations. I am not. Well, maybe I am - I think that they are willing to pay whatever they have to to get the players(s) they want. They won't over spend unless they are sure. How about a 165 million dollar committment to two players who have virtually no experience at the major league level. Is that over spending? Read an interesting article this morning that I agree with. Castillo should not be handed a position unless he earns it. If Victorino gets traded, the story changes. If not, let the games begin. I have said this before - I don't think they really wanted John Lester back as much as some people say they did. They did not get outplayed. they just did not value him as much as the Cubs did. I think that they have had another plan all along. It is one that I like.

I am starting to feel good about what we are seeing. It's not a complete picture just yet, but I wouldn't want to be associated with any other team in either league right now.

Sooner or later they will get the pitcher that they want. I think that they are still looking and when that young man becomes available, I think that he will be in a Red Sox uniform. I think that they are happy with what they have done this off season and they should be. Could be Cueto and it might be somebody else. I don't think that there is a time table. They know perfectly well what they have in their group of starters and when that special pitcher is available I think that they will be all in. I would have liked to have seen Lester in Boston but I'm just guessing but I think that their thinking is that they can do better. They are in the middle of building a team that could contend for a long time. Watching them come in to camp is impressive. They look so much bigger and stronger as a team. I think that eventually we are looking at something very special.

Probably not what you are thinking of, but when it comes to this year's lineup I think that it will. I'm not sure that bigness necessarily translates into more power leading to more scoring but I do think that any pitcher will at least have to consider the fact that thy will pitching to a lineup that looks big and strong. It has been awhile - Ramirez - Sandoval - Ortiz - Napoli and others. Still have our share of good contact hitters and potential base stealers but Earl Weaver's theory about the sacrifice bunt vs the 3 run homer is sure to come into play this year. Going to be fun to watch.

As much as I get frustrated with them on occasion, I feel so fortunate right now that the Red Sox have been in my blood for the past 60 years. One of the best farm systems in the game - owners willing to spend(regardless whether or not we like what they spend for) and a management team that has a plan that is starting to take shape. Also - i think that it is a plan that we all will enjoy. the future success of this franchise looks to me as though it might take me right to the finish line.
