  1. I don't know if there is enough time for Swihart to develop into what some might call a good ml catcher. I hope that the people who do the projecting are right because he is such a talented and good kid. i wonder how many starting ml catchers converted to that position from another position. it is a tough change to make and he has done an incredible job to date. I'm kind of changing my feelings about him and hope the Red Sox are able to keep him. At the very least, he could serve in the role that Hanigan serves and if he starts to hit again - who knows. Someone said in an earlier post that we don't have much currently for solid catching prospects and I think that they are right.
  2. I have not heard that about Dubon. Actually I brought him up initially because he is playing and hitting as well as Guerra was before the trade for Kimbrel. I'm also ok with his lack of power as long as he pick em at short. I agree with you that he could have a major league future as well. With respect to Castillo - in all honesty I don't think that there is enough time for him to actually learn how to play the game. His instincts just aren't there for someone who was so highly regarded.
  3. I would think that trying to acquire another outfielder at this time for much more than spare change would make no sense at all. I don't think that Holt provides a long term answer but who knows. I still have a little support left in me for Young. I think that he for sure needs the somewhat consistent at bats. I certainly wouldn't trade much for an aging 4th or 5th outfielder when we will have better options very soon that come from our own program. Talking quality young pitching though is another story. Right now, I don't think that they need to do anything.
  4. Over coaching can be as bad as just plain bad coaching. the data can give you good helpful info but sometimes you just have to let them play. Sitting Shaw for any pitcher would be ridiculous regardless of what the numbers indicate. sometimes just letting them play is the best thing. i'm sure that he will have his ups and downs but I like his ups a lot more than his downs.
  5. Nice games for Owens and Castillo yesterday.
  6. That was the point though. You are right - they have to be thinking knuckleball. I like the fact that with Wright his fastball actually comes close to looking like a fastball. I know Wake's fastball (if we call it that) did come even close to approaching 85 mph. Wright might be in this for the long haul. course - if he has a great year, they might trade him. Worked out pretty well for the mets.
  7. I'm just going to guess that if they guess right on his knuckleball they'll end up a pant load farther out than the cheap seats.
  8. If you are looking knuckle ball and you see 87mph fastball, you will have to be very lucky to hit it. I don't remember the separation between Wake's knuckle ball/fastball being even close to that. I would think that that would give him an even greater chance at being decent long term.
  9. Did I hear what I thought I heard last night before I fell asleep - Wright's fastball was clocked at 87mph? If that is the case, it makes his knuckle ball so much more effective. Probably I was dreaming.
  10. I think that there might even be a bit of a smokescreen being thrown out there about Swihart. Everything you read says that he is sought after and is a viable trade target. Alone, I really don't see him bringing in anything close to what we need. Maybe in a package but it would have to include a bunch of major league or major league ready prospects. I don't think that they will just give him away. He still could provide good potential depth as a catcher.
  11. it's possible that JBJ is going to be "that" player that made letting Jacoby slide on down the line easy to do. Like many others he looked like a can't miss prospect just yesterday. He is just 26. I would not like to see him traded at all. Swihart's value is behind the plate if he learns what needs to be learned. I think that there still is a real question as to whether or not he will be the hitter that he is projected to be. No way his bat is better than Holt's right now. No rush to trade anyone for anybody right now but he still appears to have some trade value.
  12. Price's performances to date are killing me. Not panicking by any means but quite honestly and once again for the good guys we aren't getting anything that resembles what we paid for. Even on his worst days he was not supposed to look this bad so consistently. Never though that I would say this, but even for teams with deep pockets, there has to come a time where you just get sick of throwing money away. I get it - we all know that he will be better but really this bad? I'd almost rather watch Owens walk runners around the bases as opposed to watching a 30 million dollar man pitch this way.
  13. Once again - the same 3 guys at the top of the order. No one saying much about Dubon. Great start for him as well. based on what we are seeing out of AA and AAA, I would think that promotions might be coming.
  14. Another good win for Salem. Top 3 continue to hit that ball. Speaking of ball, how about Trey Ball! Great performance last night. Injuries behind him, maybe we will see a developing pitcher!
  15. Pretty sure I blocked that one out!
  16. I am ashamed to admit that I can't remember when we finally got him. (not looking it up - don't like that) help - MVP
  17. thanks Kimmi - As kind of an aside though, i do really like some of these young guys.
  18. Dempsey was an original and a natural performer. Always great during a rain delay.
  19. We almost had Joe Rudie in a Red Sos uniform
  20. is this going to be the JBJ that we have been waiting for? He is still a young man and just the other day no one stuttered when Elsbury headed to New York because we had this can't miss kid. If he becomes that player, we will be a very special team. Everything we have seen Mookie do, many of us felt it was what JBJ should be doing.
  21. oh baby - if Sonny Seibert, Ray Culp, or even Jose Santiago came through that clubhouse door, we would be riding high tide! You're right - Owens ain't no Lonborg.
  22. It's a good bet that Owens will be heading back to AAA but there is something there. If he could just find that strike zone a little more often. Don't see him ever being top of rotation but it is possible that he could help out.
  23. Always been my favorite baseball picture. I was 9 and got a chance to see him in his last year.
  24. Henry Henry Henry
