  1. What do think - a little motivational speech from JH get the job done? Going out on a limb here I know but i still like thinking that all of our pitchers are responsible for their own performances. i'm not quite ready to give up on David Price just yet.
  2. I was a big fan! That beaning essentially ended what looked to be a very good career on the rise. Doug Griffin was a damned good player.
  3. At this point in time, Swihart's ability to play left field in Fenway is a long ways away from that of Moncada's. We really haven't been given any indication that the sox are even thinking about moving Moncada to the outfield. As for Benintendi, you get to decide as a fan. My choice right now would be Swihart.
  4. if they decide keep Devers as well, something is going to have to give. It is conceiveable that Devers winds up a first to.
  5. have you seen him play?
  6. I wouldn't bet against this but I do think that Moncada is going hit both lefties and righties . i'm more concerned with him not being able to field a position. Or maybe even to find a position.
  7. i know exactly what your point was. Hope you know what mine was. There are some prospects of course that look like they have a better chance of making it than others. If using a numbering system based on a plethora of statistics makes someone feel as they know something special about a prospect great. i still absolutely believe in the eye test. With that in mind, I would not lose one ounce of sleep if Benintendi was traded in a package for the "right" young prospect. As a matter of fact, i would consider trading every player on the Portland franchise plus their mascot for the right young pitcher.(minus Moncada of course.) Obviously i am being a little sarcastic here but as much as I like what the future might hold for Andrew Benintendi, I think that he is replaceable. Moncada may be as well but for the time beiing it looks like his combination of speed and power and overall size could lead to something special.
  8. Agree!
  9. You are right - they use a numbering system now that basically says the exact same thing.

    The Cubs

the big difference for me would be that I think that Theo actually knew what he was doing. Manny's "stunts" were not stunts. He could hit - good for us. He is gone.
  11. you know what, I kind of agree with you. XB worked his nuts off to become an excellent ss. A good kid who plays the game the right way. Basically I feel the same way about JB and MB.
  12. Trying to make something out of nothing. Farrell sucks right.
  13. True enough about the fat stuff but also true about the 30. It isn't likely to happen but he could turn back time. I don't know him and I haven't read one thing about him. What I would say though is that he has great talent and if he was motivated to do so, he could turn back time and be more than productive. When you are 30, it is not to late. Unlikely maybe but possible.
  14. We did enjoy it. I really like the overall athleticism of the team. I thought that they were going to hit but Verlander is still tough. When JBJ scored from first on Shaw's double to right, it was a real display of what youth and speed can do .
  15. Couple of things from last night - Ramirez has got a cute little boy. He was in the outfield while the Tigers were taking bp. That red seat is a literal mile from home plate. The seats don't get any more comfortable as the years go by but that ballpark is still just a great place to watch a game. I really like the youth movement and will not be disappointed to see more of it.
  16. I really think that these types of decisions would be easier if the positional status of some of our best prospects looked a little clearer. Moncada? Devers? Travis? Will Shaw stay at third or go to first. Who catches going forward and what the hell becomes of one of your best talents in Swihart? Does Ramirez become your next dh or will it be someone like Encarnarcion (hope it does). I dunno - in some respects, if you don't really know who is going to be where maybe the best thing is to trade someone while their stock is up. I would hate to see us lose a good one but they all ain't play first or third. I didn't mention Benintendi here simply because his path to the bigs looks clearer. Some of these guys might be just too talented to stockpile. Nothing rash needs to be done right now. We aren't all that bad.
  17. I have to add that his bench coach and once again heir apparent is sitting right beside him. He has to be in on the decisions that are made. Coaches run things constantly by their assistants. Many very good coaches will tell you honestly that their assistants have made them very good. I see Louvollo(sp) as simply a younger extension of Farrell. We second guess, look at things in hindsight constantly. It is what we do. It makes the forum fun. Bottom line is that Farrell handles personal very professionally. His on field decisions may be average or whatever you think they are. An in-house change is a change for change sake and would provide no real upgrade.
  18. None! He is a big kid too. he throws a little harder than I thought he did. His curve is a classic hook. Snaps right off the table. I really did enjoy watching him work. Just 27!
  19. good news is pomeranz's start - he looked very good.
  20. I thought Pomeranz looked very good out there tonight. I like how quickly he works. 93/94 mph fb with an 81/82 mph curve (really a big old hook). He throws a cutter but not very often. I feel really pretty good about what I saw from him. He could a good one for quite some time! Big-strong-young!
  21. oh boy Spud, I hope this doesn't mean you've heard something other than just what has been speculated. He would be the 1 prospect that I would hate to see go the most by a long shot. They are all prospects but he comes with so much more God given potential than anyone we have seen in a long time. It isn't even close. Now, he might not turn out to be the next Trout but if there is anybody in the org. that has the physical tools to be that guy, it's him.
  22. You certainly bring up some wonderful points the but for me is I don't care how good he is, do I really want someone like him in Boston. Probably not. Management has done a wonderful job of binging people of good character in. He may be a fine person, but for me is if the warning bell rings at all, it really isn't worth it. There are plenty of other possibilities which I am sure could and probably are being explored.
  23. If you want him gone, be careful what you are wishing for. He is plan A, and Louvollo is plan B. He has been sitting beside Farrell for sometime now. They seem to be getting along just fine. If a coaching change is made, they need to go outside of the org. to find someone who can make a difference. With the heir apparent, you get a younger version of the same guy.
  24. Neither he nor Moncada has dominated at the AA level. Regardless of what anyone thinks, moving him up right now would be done more for emotional rather than practical reasons. If I was told today that a healthy Swihart was going to be our left fielder going forward, that would work for me. Benintendi may become very good for us but right now he is just the new flavor of the day. i'm actually much more interested in what they are going to do with Chris Marrero.
  25. I did and what can you say? he cut up the freaking jersies.
