  1. Dick Stuart from tother side? lol
  2. Kike i think would be an above average utility player. Able to play numerous positions adequately. type of player every team needs and wants. Playing him at ss is setting him up to fail. I like him too much to ever see him placed in that position again. it is Cora's job to figure this all out unless he is getting more direction from someone else.
  3. never once did I imply that Cora is stupid. I was an athlete and a coach and if we repetetively did the same things over and over again with the same results which were obviously the wrong things to do then it was considered stupid. You are guessing as to what I think also. You are entitled to your own thoughts and beliefs which I am as well. Thank you but believe it or not I have been around awhile also and I am a little taken aback by the fact that someone who claims to know as much as you claim to know has really no clue as to what I am talking about. In my estimation, what he did was a stupid thing to do.
  4. I have no idea. regardless of what he said, I just wonder what is going on in his brain when he puts him out there and has to face the music for his decision continually. Most of us who have been involved in athletics know what the definition of stupid is. The team is a lot more important than the individual in this case and he doesn't help the team by playing Kike at ss any time. Doesn't do much for Kike either I would imagine.
  5. And this is likely why it just seems like such a strange way to do business. On the one hand Cora says that he will not be using Kike in the ss role and then when Chang is available he doesn't use him in the a position of great need when he could have. I get that he is concerned about the health of his players as well he should be. I just would like to know what's it going to be?
  6. You might be right. I do like your way of looking at things like this better than mine. I would tend to call it a stupid move. hard for me to imagine any pitcher really being particularly happy with Cora yarding out an inferior player in such an important position. they do a good job of hiding their emotions out there when he continues to stumble around.
  7. No one does that consistently. A few of the greatest seem to be able to step up more often in the most intense of times. I call those clutch players. I could not care less what anyone thinks clutch is or isn't.
  8. You are probably right but my question would be was Chang available to play ss yesterday?
  9. If "clutch" was a repeatable on demand type of skill so to speak, then I don't think that it would be called clutch. That would define damned good. when said player took his damned good game to another level when the situation called for it then that would be called clutch in my big book.
  10. You obviously have a point. I don't know whether or not you agree with Cora using players out of position or not. I don't. I value defense too much. I know what is likely to come next but probably not from you. Someone will either take what I am saying to mean that no one else values defense - that would be a joke - I know that most do. I might even have to listen to how many times Turner who I happen to think is one hell of a ball player has played second base in the past and that he should be able to do this. It won't change my opinion of what I have seen Cora do for years now.
  11. I tried hard to watch the game yesterday but I lost control. Paxton, who I would love to see them resign, walks three. This stuff happens. he got squeezed a bit but he was still throwing well and then... I think that Kike's days in boston should be numbered. Playing him anywhere right now is a gamble. The players may like Cora, I'm not so sure that I do. The two errors(even though one was was called a hit) sealed the deal. Tells me that defense is not valued like it should be and that is a surprise considering that Cora was a field first kind of guy. Those mistakes should not have happened. Also, imagine my surprise when I saw Turner (who I also really like) at second base Friday night. They got lucky on a pop fly that would have been easily caught by Verdugo if Turner had not been in the way. It is a classic clown show with Cora's attempts to keep everybody happy.
  12. Wow - You just ran right over the top of me I guess. Great job. Obviously this meaningless pissing contest has just been all me. Sorry.
  13. Wait - I just read your whole post. You are telling me that believing in people bothers me. You don't know me right? Anyone who makes a comment like that is just simply terribly insecure or just looking for an argument which you won't get from me.
  14. What is it that is bothering you about this? Trust me, nothing you could ever say would get me hot and bothered. I really do get a kick out of your posts as I do a few others who post here. I've often times felt and said the same things that you have said but they weren't figures of speech they were my actual feelings. In my case, I have been proven wrong more than I have been proven right.
  15. Semantics really? I'm glad that you knew Mookie was going to be a star when he played in Salem. Hey, I knew that JBJ, Moncada, and Benitendi were going to be stars when they were playing in Portland. You sure do know more than I do. Good job.
  16. I think that there is quite a difference in comparing what they seem to be capable of doing.
  17. Or it could also mean that the stubbornness with respect with what something on paper says that he should not face lefties? he is a hitter - let him go.
  18. Wait - quick question - When betts was in Salem playing as a second baseman you were sure that he was going to be a star?
  19. I realize that people have platooned for years just not with some hitters. Now I'm not ready to suggest that Duran is that special just yet but it certainly looks like the gamble might be worth it. having four capable outfielders is not a problem either. Sadly I do think that it is beginning to look as though Kike is the odd man out. Sadly I think that every time he is put into the ss position he is being set up for failure.
  20. Trading Paxton in any kind of trade that would not bring in pitching talent that could help us right now, spells "we are done for this year". I don't like it because it sounds like quit to me. I would have to think that many fans would feel that way as well. I want something to look forward to every year including this year. Now Paxton might get traded and it might be a good move for the future but I have to think if he doesn't get traded and we do not resign him, the future still can look just as bright.
  21. I'm with you here. I love the game but do not find that being immersed in the metrics aspects of it makes my opinions any less important than the two or three people here who live breathe and die by them. I actually miss many of the elements of baseball that used to be so important not seeming to have relevance anymore. it is one of the reasons Duran's play is really special I think. No team wants to see this guy get on base. Bunting, running, moving runners just seem like lost arts that I do think still work.
  22. Duran has proven at this point in time that he deserves to be out there everyday regardless of who is pitching. I don't think that playing the metrics game with an athlete like this does anybody any good. He just puts too much pressure on the defense. I'm with you on Casas. I'm very hopeful but I'm not sold on him just yet. It's not like he has really ripped things up at any ml level as of yet. it looks like the potential is there but we shall see.
  23. I'm not suggesting they keep him for another season, I just don't like the idea of a total give up on this one with a return that might be very questionable. Basically I guess I just never liked the idea of quitting.
  24. I don't think that holding on to Paxton makes them a ring contender by any means but at least it gives them a shot at the wild card possibly. It keeps a whole group of people tuned in. Even the real contenders for a ring have to get very lucky to win one. All you really need to do is get to the playoffs. If they decide to trade him, I really hope that they are smart about it.
  25. Well deserved by the way. So quick questions for those who want to trade him. who you going to get in return? You'll be giving up on this season right?
