    I remember being that guy a couple of years ago who took some grief for going on about how good I thought Hernandez could be after I saw him play a bit in Portland. I still feel the same way about him (lol). Even though I think that he is a legit shortstop or second baseman, I think that he is an all-star in comparison to any of the others that have been mentioned here - Rutledge, Marrero, maybe even Holt. I still don't think that he is just a utility player and wish that they could move him in a trade as opposed to keeping him for the "proverbial" depth. He is good enough to at least get a chance. Like everybody else his clock is ticking.

    It kind of looks like Hernandez might be one of the odd guys out. If he is, I will feel very bad for this kid. He is good enough to start for any number of teams at either second or short. I get all of that ******** about his options too but that will never enter in to any philosophy that I have about athletics. Your team should consist of the best players available. I truly believe that he is better than Rutledge(no I would not care if he had to be returned to colorado)and I actually believe that in terms of playing second or short, he is a solid upgrade over Holt. He really does deserve a chance. i wish that they would trade him!

    Hopefully no one so far has confused him with someone better than he is but the story is still a good one. There will be a need for another starter and of the perspective candidates looks like he is starting to stand out. It is a good thing.

    He is good enough to be on it but he won't be. If he keeps progressing, he will be the first baseman of the future I think. It is just a numbers game for him right now. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that he is good enough to be out there full time right now.

    I agree with you all the way with respect to Travis. He gets a little love but I think less than he deserves. An adequate fielder at first and potentially a really good hitter with quite a bit of pop.

    I hope you keep posting. I grew up when ted was entering the late stages of his career. Obviously, I go with Ted. I know how much all of these teams of the late 50's and 60's meant to me so it does me good to hear from someone who actually saw the guys from mid to late 30's and 40's play. Good for you!

    If I had to bet, I would bet that many in upper level management truly expect that Swihart will be our number one eventually. Maybe sometime this year. I would be stunned though if he didn't go to Pawtucket for at least a little while. Have to find out whether he can actually get the jib done this time around behind the plate. No sense of urgency at all. We have two pretty good defensive catchers ahead of him at least for now. It won't hurt us at all to go with what we got for awhile. i also think that Leon deserves a chance to show which Leon we are going to have going forward also. If he hits coming out of the gate, then it is going to get interesting.

    I am absolutely sure that for many people and for many countries it is a great big deal. it's a good thing. I will also be overjoyed if none of our pitchers are involved.

    thanks for that - tells me that there has been no pattern of injury in his history. It also tells me that there is no more reason to worry about him having issues in the future than you would with any other player.

    It really seems like it is kind or a random thing. Did anyone ever suspect that Vazquez was going to have to have the surgery? Just the way it goes.

    if the data is used, it has to fit the needs of the specific team it is being used for. One size does not fit all.

    Has he ever been injured? I'm sure that poor mechanics can lead to all types of problems, but he appears to have been pretty healthy for the last 5 years or so. For some of these guys, I think that it is just the luck of the draw. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

    I think that it depends on how you interpret the numbers. What specifically determines who your best hitter is? I would think that if you had a team filled with fairly good hitters you have the luxury of putting specific types of hitters in positions that you think will help the team the most. I like my best run producer batting third.

    Has he ever been injured? He has been at it for awhile now. His delivery does look a little strange for sure. If Price has a unique elbow, maybe Sale gets away with the delivery.

    It is optimistic. Gives me something to talk about. Initially, I think that he starts in Pawtucket for sure. If (and it is a big if) he returns to the form he had when he was at his best, he will force himself into someone's lineup. if he hits like he used to, it very well might be ours. It will create some good competition for sure.

    I tend to be overly optimistic but that being said, even when I try to keep things in perspective, I still think he makes it all the way back.

    Will the real Allen Craig please stand up. Is this really possible? If he is healthy, what is going to happen? If he suddenly turns in to the Allen Craig of yesteryear, someone might have to step aside. He was that good.

    He may never become an excellent catcher but he very well may be good enough going forward to start for us for a long time.

    I agree with both of you. (mvp + 700). Another writer trying to create controversy where none at all exists. I actually think that David Price understands how things work. I'm pretty sure that it isn't just in Boston either.

    All my best to your mother -in- law. It is great that she has such a supporting family. Inaccurate information given in her case is unacceptable. If inaccurate medical information is being given to the family of David Price, that would be unacceptable as well. If I receive biased or slightly inaccurate information about the David Price injury - ho hum - that is the way it goes. i will still watch them.

    I don't want to come off here as saying that we shouldn't be concerned about David Price. We all are. I guess what I mean is that there are some things that stay in that clubhouse. I'm willing to accept the fact that I have been told what they want the public to be told. I believe that they are being as truthful as they can and need to be.

    Thank you for posting this. This is what I like and what we have been talking about. Regardless of what happens going forward for him, he gets it. I love these types of players.

    It works for me. i do not have that much of a need to know. it is possible that they might not even think that we need to know! What is the world coming to? What I am really trying to say is that anyone who really gives a s***, might want to consider what really matters in the world. if I am not part of the program, I am a fan. I'm pretty much good with what they tell me.

    I suppose it might. i think that maybe you and I see things a little differently don't you think? The good news at least for me is that I don't have to agree with any of your views and opinions and vice versa. And honestly, yes, I did think that I owed something to the person whose name appeared on the bottom of my paycheck.
