  1. I think that it sums it up appropriately but there really is nothing correct about it.
  2. Actually I agree with most of what you have said. The but is that it still sucks for a kid who is good enough to start right now and quite possibly for us. I understand all about paying your dues as well. I would still keep this kid on the major league roster even if it meant playing 3 or 4 days a week which I think would be quite doable. I also don't expect it to happen.
  3. I agree with what you have said here in general. It's all relative. Competing against people who are of your own talent level certainly allows for the pressure to take over once again. It clearly leads to people competing at higher or lower levels than they normally do at times. Professionals are not immune to the pressure simply because they are more talented than the average stiff.
  4. He very likely might be be a better shortstop than XB. Hernandez is a 2b/ss first. It probably will not happen but would be a rational logical move.
  5. That is nice. Hernandez is 24- young, strong, fast, and ready to play everyday. Doesn't matter which side of the plate he bats from either. He is a ready to go everyday ss or second baseman who can play third if he has to. He isn't a utility player waiting to fill in for someone.
  6. I understand this but it doesn't make it right. Rutledge really?
  7. Kind of sadly i agree with this! I do think that Blake has a better chance of learning to catch than CV has of learning to hit at this point in his career though.
  8. Because he has options right! You already know how I feel about this one. All this kid continues to do is hit and play well overall. He is a substantially better baseball player than either Rutledge or Marrero and even though I realize what Holt has meant to us, I would throw him in there as well. He is good enough to start and play either second or short for someone.
  9. I sure and hell hope not. Not everything can or needs to be proven.
  10. Long season for sure- yada, yada, yada, sounds good for sure. Rutledge over Hernandez if that happens still seems unfair.
  11. Maintaining depth and flexibility is of course very important. I also agree with you that it is very unfair in many cases. It just is the way it is I guess. The situations that I am talking about are when better players do not get opportunities that they probably deserve and have earned due to contract restrictions. Not talking stars here like a David Price. I would take hernandez everyday over rutledge.
  12. You went out so far on that branch, I'm surprised the limb held up! lol It is the right call as far as I'm concerned.
  13. Just my little rant that I have to take. Every now and then, players that are ready to contribute don't get the chance because of the size of someone elses contract. I want the best players available to be on the roster. I know that it doesn't work that way always. Claiming that they provide depth or that they have remaining options as opposed to someone else who doesn't still just doesn't work for me. Oh well - I still get it.
  14. I remember being that guy a couple of years ago who took some grief for going on about how good I thought Hernandez could be after I saw him play a bit in Portland. I still feel the same way about him (lol). Even though I think that he is a legit shortstop or second baseman, I think that he is an all-star in comparison to any of the others that have been mentioned here - Rutledge, Marrero, maybe even Holt. I still don't think that he is just a utility player and wish that they could move him in a trade as opposed to keeping him for the "proverbial" depth. He is good enough to at least get a chance. Like everybody else his clock is ticking.
  15. It kind of looks like Hernandez might be one of the odd guys out. If he is, I will feel very bad for this kid. He is good enough to start for any number of teams at either second or short. I get all of that ******** about his options too but that will never enter in to any philosophy that I have about athletics. Your team should consist of the best players available. I truly believe that he is better than Rutledge(no I would not care if he had to be returned to colorado)and I actually believe that in terms of playing second or short, he is a solid upgrade over Holt. He really does deserve a chance. i wish that they would trade him!
  16. Hopefully no one so far has confused him with someone better than he is but the story is still a good one. There will be a need for another starter and of the perspective candidates looks like he is starting to stand out. It is a good thing.
  17. He is good enough to be on it but he won't be. If he keeps progressing, he will be the first baseman of the future I think. It is just a numbers game for him right now. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that he is good enough to be out there full time right now.
  18. I agree with you all the way with respect to Travis. He gets a little love but I think less than he deserves. An adequate fielder at first and potentially a really good hitter with quite a bit of pop.
  19. Wonder where Old Fred is anyway?
  20. I hope you keep posting. I grew up when ted was entering the late stages of his career. Obviously, I go with Ted. I know how much all of these teams of the late 50's and 60's meant to me so it does me good to hear from someone who actually saw the guys from mid to late 30's and 40's play. Good for you!
  21. If I had to bet, I would bet that many in upper level management truly expect that Swihart will be our number one eventually. Maybe sometime this year. I would be stunned though if he didn't go to Pawtucket for at least a little while. Have to find out whether he can actually get the jib done this time around behind the plate. No sense of urgency at all. We have two pretty good defensive catchers ahead of him at least for now. It won't hurt us at all to go with what we got for awhile. i also think that Leon deserves a chance to show which Leon we are going to have going forward also. If he hits coming out of the gate, then it is going to get interesting.
  22. I am absolutely sure that for many people and for many countries it is a great big deal. it's a good thing. I will also be overjoyed if none of our pitchers are involved.
  23. thanks for that - tells me that there has been no pattern of injury in his history. It also tells me that there is no more reason to worry about him having issues in the future than you would with any other player.
  24. It really seems like it is kind or a random thing. Did anyone ever suspect that Vazquez was going to have to have the surgery? Just the way it goes.
