Des Cartes - really Notin - What is it going to be next some of that Alexander Dumais (as in dumb ass). I would really like to see some how much weight some of this reasoning would carry in the normal ml dugout. lol

I know he is slower than fast but is he that much slower than a lot of others? If the starting job was decided by a race between Vazquez and Leon - I think it would still be close. -
If he outhits Leon, he will get the job. If he doesn't outhit him this spring, and still gets the job, then good for him. It will mean that he has become an elite catcher. At the present time, he is on just about the same level as Leon behind the plate. He is going to have to win the job and if he doesn't outhit him, I don't think he gets the everyday job.

My opinion would be that most of us who believe in things like "clutch players" know that it is not really something you can not define. Not everything needs to be defined. It is just one of those things.

I would think that it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to define something like this. It might be why we hear (and I use) we know it when we see it. Sometimes you can even feel it. Once again, these types of things that are not clearly defined make the games special for me. I mentioned pycho-cybenetics to you a while ago. The great NBA scorer Bob McAdoo quite often used to go through his pre-practice shooting routine without a basketball. He believed that mentally he saw himself scoring which enabled him to actually score - he sure did!

Like I said - when is the clutch? Who gets to decide? It is not definitive. I'm just guessing but I bet this drives some people nuts. My great players might always do well in the clutch and not so much when the stakes aren't quite so high.

This is interesting for sure. Good opinions and points of view. One of my questions would be, who gets to decide what a clutch moment is?

It is all a guess, I think, from a fan's perspective what type of person he is. What I know about this guy is that he is young - he is good- and he has the mentality when on the mound that anyone in the game would love to see on their team. To be this good, which he obviously is, and to finally have a chance to play in the post season - It really is what is all about. We will see what type of person he is or becomes but based only on what we know, I think that we are beyond lucky to have this guy playing for us. Now, that being said, maybe someone knows something about him that we don't but personally I'm pretty pleased that he will be pitching for us.

I was not trying to compare him to anyone else. If you don't think, based on accumulated stats, that he presented a more up and down type pitcher (like most knuckleballers do ) that is fine. You are trying to make a statement here and all I get is that you really liked Wake. Good - so did the rest of us.

When Wake was on, he was at least one pant load better than any mediocre pitcher in mlb.

Seriously why did you post all of this? Are you trying to plant some kind of thought that I might not have liked Wakefied? is someone arguing with you here about Wake's value? I think that Wake could look like an ace when he was on and less than a 5 when he was not. In your world maybe watching a knuckleball pitcher is no different that watching anyone pitch. Not in mine. I'm not talking about his accumulated stats. I liked Wake and appreciate what he gave to the Red Spx but you aren't going to convince me that watching him when he was off wasn't excruciating. Much more so when you consider how good he looked when he was on.

When Wake was on, he just seemed ace like - but when he was off - oh baby was it tough to watch. That is probably why the debate rages on with respect to knuckleball pitchers in general. If you value consistency, you might not want to be signing the knuckleballer. Probably why there were people out there who were for trading Wright last year when he was pitching so well.

No one likes to see anyone injured but if I had to bet, yes I would bet that the Red Sox medical staff knows what it is doing. It is a first class operation. I don't follow any other team on a day to day basis so I have no idea what other franchises are going through. Probably pretty similar.

thrilled or not - he gave us something which is more than Espinoza would give us (if anything ) for a long time. By continually bringing it up and continually ripping the trade, you are bashing Pom. No one likes to give up young prospects particularly pitchers. It is a trade that may or may not work out. I know what all of the scouts said about Espinoza by the way. Hope it works out for him. And no I do not think that trade represents a win now at all costs mentality. We all need new material.

The other point of view is just as solid. Pom has given us something already. He is young and he still could become better than he has been.

rue the day - really? I hope the kid does reach his potential. I wouldn't bet on it but I hope that he does. My guess is that the Red Sox will be just fine regardless .

I like mine better. I have seen mine. I have not seen your headline. I also don't have issues with the Pom trade. I wish he was healthy for sure but I still think we wind up with the better deal ultimately.

I love Jerry and his message is a good one. It never ceases to amaze me how many really great athletes were able to be great and still be smokers. You just wouldn't have expected it from a runner like Remy. It does sound like he is doing well though and feeling good.
