    We are going to find out pretty soon whether spring training has any real significance with respect to who makes the team and who doesn't. Hernandez should be on the team.

    I'm not opposed to leaving XB at short for sure but I still don't want to see hernandez at third. He is a second baseman/shortstop. Not much room for him right now I guess but that is the way it goes. I do find it amusing when I read past comments by some suggesting that XB is just an average at best ss. I don't believe this at all. He has improved in all areas of the game. I like him right where he is but if he isn't that good at short moving him right over to third should seem logical. Although I think that Marco deserves to be on this team, in no way would I think that moving XB to third makes any sense. He has worked too hard.

    The closer the games are the greater managerial decisions also play in to the outcome. i wonder how many of the one run games that were lost came when players were being rested. We tend to see some interesting lineups on the card at times. Over coaching as well as under coaching comes in to play to a much greater extent the closer the game become. I think that John Farrell is an excellent manger of people but when it comes to decisions that lead to wins and losses, we probably will continue to see all types of opinions.

    When i first saw him play, he was playing ss for Portland. he was clearly their best player but yet physically he really didn't look to be anything special. He has worked hard on his overall fitness. He is clearly stronger and faster than he was back in the day. Many people have said since day 1 that he projects as a very good utility player on a team like Boston. I think he has a good chance of showing that the projectors are wrong.

    I'm not ready to throw this kid under the bus. His health obviously is a concern going forward. He has a great arm and it is way to early to give up on him.

    It is what it is according to them. I have felt all along that he is a better fit at second than anywhere else. Is it possible that he exceeds the expectations of the scouting reports? Is it even possible that he already has. I'm not saying that this kid is the next gift but It would take a hell of a lot more than Josh Rutledge for me to keep him off our roster. It is a good situation for the Red Sox to be in I guess.

    Actually I agree with most of what you have said. The but is that it still sucks for a kid who is good enough to start right now and quite possibly for us. I understand all about paying your dues as well. I would still keep this kid on the major league roster even if it meant playing 3 or 4 days a week which I think would be quite doable. I also don't expect it to happen.

    I agree with what you have said here in general. It's all relative. Competing against people who are of your own talent level certainly allows for the pressure to take over once again. It clearly leads to people competing at higher or lower levels than they normally do at times. Professionals are not immune to the pressure simply because they are more talented than the average stiff.

    He very likely might be be a better shortstop than XB. Hernandez is a 2b/ss first. It probably will not happen but would be a rational logical move.

    That is nice. Hernandez is 24- young, strong, fast, and ready to play everyday. Doesn't matter which side of the plate he bats from either. He is a ready to go everyday ss or second baseman who can play third if he has to. He isn't a utility player waiting to fill in for someone.

    Kind of sadly i agree with this! I do think that Blake has a better chance of learning to catch than CV has of learning to hit at this point in his career though.

    Because he has options right! You already know how I feel about this one. All this kid continues to do is hit and play well overall. He is a substantially better baseball player than either Rutledge or Marrero and even though I realize what Holt has meant to us, I would throw him in there as well. He is good enough to start and play either second or short for someone.

    Long season for sure- yada,yada, yada, sounds good for sure. Rutledge over Hernandez if that happens still seems unfair.

    Maintaining depth and flexibility is of course very important. I also agree with you that it is very unfair in many cases. It just is the way it is I guess. The situations that I am talking about are when better players do not get opportunities that they probably deserve and have earned due to contract restrictions. Not talking stars here like a David Price. I would take hernandez everyday over rutledge.

    Just my little rant that I have to take. Every now and then, players that are ready to contribute don't get the chance because of the size of someone elses contract. I want the best players available to be on the roster. I know that it doesn't work that way always. Claiming that they provide depth or that they have remaining options as opposed to someone else who doesn't still just doesn't work for me. Oh well - I still get it.
