  1. It is simply what I heard coming out of the Red Sox camp this morning. I'm not trying to start a battle with you. You have a strong opinion about this - so do I. If it matters to the men playing the game, I'm going to buy it. I will always trend in that direction. You won't change my mind any more than I could change yours. When a pitcher says that when Papi was in the lineup, he started thinking about him when he was 3 hitters away, I'm just guessing that the boys hitting before him saw some good pitches to hit.
  2. I like that - Beni and the Betts - good one!
  3. I'm not saying that I don't trust what the scouts say Moon but I would suspect that they might certainly say as much about what Marrero can and has done with the glove. I'm pretty much in MVP's camp here with this - Lin has had some limited outfield experience which helps to give him a leg up. They really are both likely to be utility payers. So whatever but if defense was the only determining factor, you could go with Lin if you like. I would go with Marrero everyday.
  4. Are you really sure that you have seen Lin play long enough to suggest that he is an equal gloveman to Marrero? Personally I'm not sure either one them can hit a lick. If you are talking about who has options left and who doesn't, do you really think that Lin is going to be a substantial upgrade over Marrero. I'm certainly not sure that I do but I would say the same thing about Chavis. We need to wait just a little while to see if he is for real or not. There is a lot of solid support for him on here as well. I like him as well but I'm not convinced that he will ever play for us just yet.
  5. You very well might be right but he is worth a shot. For what it's worth, Many is the day on the course that I couldn't wait to get to the 19th hole!
  6. Couple other things that I like about Cora's approach - there is one area in which the game has definitely changed, relief pitching. In the past, it was to a team's advantage to make that starter throw as many pitches as you possibly could, get him out of the game. Not so much anymore with starters having good days being yanked after 6. Teams need to adjust and that means if someone throws a ball directly down home run highway, perhaps you ought to pound it. Take fewer - hit more! The other change coming is the emphasis on trying to launch the ball as opposed to beating it into the ground. I still think that this approach has to with the type of player that you are. This is not some new and intriguing philosophy. A long time ago Ted had it right. What goes around, quite often comes back around.
  7. But and I mean this seriously, Boston still is a place that is attractive to the best players in the world. We all have our own opinions about what it is like just living in the northeast. I wouldn't live anywhere else. There were times when each of those truly great players probably deserved a little booing.
  8. With him, I think that it is about the health. If he is healthy, he could still be a devastating hitter.
  9. I think that the Pollyanna approach began when he was signed. He has put up some good numbers for us but I remember the number of people who focused on what he had done prior to 2012.
  10. Bing honest though - come on guys - under performance is the biggest source of boos but this is Boston. I remember Paoi being booed. It's a tough crowd up here. Get the job done and you get revered. If you don't get it done, you probably are going to get a ration. It's how it is.
  11. that is interesting - Price might very well be the single biggest key to this season for us well.
  12. He just sounds a little less robotic to me. He sounds like a for real human and I like that. I'm sure that Farrell is also a good guy but he was as stiff as a board. I think that it is going to be ok to laugh and act like you are having fun this year. It is a privilege to be able to play at the ml level. It is ok to loosen up a little and enjoy it. I also like what he has said with respect to some subtle baseball differences as well such as he still wants aggressiveness on the base paths but we need to be a little less reckless.
  13. I would think and hope that they would at least sit him down. I think that from the sounds of things Cora gets it. It isn't simply because I agree with everything he has said that he will do to date either.
  14. Just heard a very good (in my estimation) interview with Tom Caron. Sounds like players and coaches and all things management agree that having that big bat in the middle of the lineup will mean more hittable pitches coming to the guys in front of him. If all of our underachievers have bounce back years, I think that this will be one of the reasons for that.
  15. I'm pretty sure that I agree with you here. Based upon some of the things that they have done over the past couple of years, our ownership appears to be very sensitive to the current social climate. Does keeping Wright on the roster maybe look a little hypocritical? There very well might be a great deal that we do not know about this situation. I'm ok with that. It is not that I don't care it is just that I really don't want to know everything about everything.
  16. I think that Cora wants to win . That is a good thing. They have to find out early what Hanley has. Maybe it is a big if but if he has it then having him in the lineup will us win more games. It is that simple.
  17. If Hanley comes out of the gate strong, my guess is that Moreland will see fewer at bats. None of them need to play everyday. Cora will have to find ways to play Nunez, Ramirez, and of course Martinez on a very regular basis. It can be done. Mix and match and everybody gets a little time off. I really like what Cora has said about Ramirez. We need to find out what he has left.
  18. I take it as a sign that Jacksonian is starting to get nervous and will resort to the proverbial backhand slap to defend his team. He must have read Tomase's piece this morning and actually thought about the Red Sox batting order. All teams have a laundry list of ifs and buts at this time of year but if our ifs turn positive, our starting pitching (say again) could be the best in the league. As for the bullpen, a couple of more ifs. If things work our way, I think that we are going to have plenty.
  19. It a new year! I would not want to have to pitch to this new and improved Red Sox lineup and our starting pitching could very well wind up being the best in the league.
  20. Absolutely. JD can certainly play left and we have two very good center fielders and one outstanding right fielder on the roster.
  21. I mentioned this earlier but I will say again that with what our potential looks like at the plate, keeping Marrero around doesn't look quite so ridiculous. This team will need some solid infield defense and Marrero can field well 3 different positions. All of a sudden, they don't really need his bat. They will need a glove though. I'm not a big Marrero fan but I think they may need his glove. Devers, Nunez, Bogaerts. We hope that Devers comes along but in reality what do you see there?
  22. Ok - here we go - Good for you Max that you give notin some credit. To some maybe notin clarified something but I would guess that almost everyone posting regularly on this board knew exactly what would happen with respect to our 40 man roster.
  23. I'm thinking that JD will find some time in left field. I'm not of the opinion that he is as bad an outfielder as statistical evidence seems to make him out to be. Hanley's playing time will absolutely be dictated by his health as well how he produces. If he is healthy and hits, he will play. Moreland will still get his at bats. He can field the position and has a little pop in that bat. This is a great problem for Cora to have. Personally, now it makes no difference to me where Betts bats in our lineup but I would really like to see Martinez, Ramirez, and Devers lined right up. This potential lineup has got to look devastating to any opponent. Particularly when you consider what our pitching staff could also look like. Jacksonian whatever was absolutely right. My dreams for this team have come true and I am all aboard this train. Now that some of the pressure to produce bigly at the plate has been eliminated, some of these guys that some here feel grossly under achieved last year may very well surprise us all.
  24. Oh come on notin, just because I didn't mention Ben Taylor doesn't mean that I won't be pulling for him. I did not realize that the Sox simply released Brentz. I thought they traded him to the Pirates for cash. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I absolutely will stop the idiocy if that is what you consider it as soon as you stop trying to educate me with respect to things that I actually know something about.
