  1. I see it a little differently. David Price - if healthy could be the biggest difference maker, followed by Martinez.
  2. pretty sure sure he will be bunching some power bats - 3-4-5. If you got them that is where you put them.
  3. You might have to bite your lip though on occasion. If he is being honest with us, which I am pretty sure that he is, he is very grounded in common sense and even has a touch of what you might call old school in him. I am also sure that analytics will play a very solid role in how he approaches the season. Just won't be the be all and end all.
  4. From what I read here, I did not really get that Cora feels that protection in the lineup is not important. With respect to lineup construction, sounds to me that he was basically saying that going lefty, righty and so forth should not have to be done. I'm pretty sure the he feels that batting Hanley 3rd and JD 4th will give the rest of the boys better pitches to hit. Did I miss something here? Do tell - What did I miss? Of course lineup protection matters.
  5. wow actually watching some bb
  6. I'm starting to have a man-crush on Cora already. A real bb guy. I also liked what he said about bunting. In his mind, it kind of sounds like there is a time and place for all things baseball related.
  7. Rmember Nava's first at bat in the bigs for sure though!!!
  8. It probably is a rare day that I can say this, but everything that Cora has said makes me think that he really could be a very good one for us. He isn't hung up on the whole concept of lefty, righty, lefty, righty ... A statement like - if you can hit you are going to hit - I like. His approach so far just seems to me to be one of common sense. Doesn't sound like much is going to be scripted. Put your best players on the field and do what it takes to win.
  9. So Joe kelly gets hit by a ball hit by Brock Holt and limps off the field. How do like his odds of being ready for opening day?
  10. It is simply what I heard coming out of the Red Sox camp this morning. I'm not trying to start a battle with you. You have a strong opinion about this - so do I. If it matters to the men playing the game, I'm going to buy it. I will always trend in that direction. You won't change my mind any more than I could change yours. When a pitcher says that when Papi was in the lineup, he started thinking about him when he was 3 hitters away, I'm just guessing that the boys hitting before him saw some good pitches to hit.
  11. I like that - Beni and the Betts - good one!
  12. I'm not saying that I don't trust what the scouts say Moon but I would suspect that they might certainly say as much about what Marrero can and has done with the glove. I'm pretty much in MVP's camp here with this - Lin has had some limited outfield experience which helps to give him a leg up. They really are both likely to be utility payers. So whatever but if defense was the only determining factor, you could go with Lin if you like. I would go with Marrero everyday.
  13. Are you really sure that you have seen Lin play long enough to suggest that he is an equal gloveman to Marrero? Personally I'm not sure either one them can hit a lick. If you are talking about who has options left and who doesn't, do you really think that Lin is going to be a substantial upgrade over Marrero. I'm certainly not sure that I do but I would say the same thing about Chavis. We need to wait just a little while to see if he is for real or not. There is a lot of solid support for him on here as well. I like him as well but I'm not convinced that he will ever play for us just yet.
  14. You very well might be right but he is worth a shot. For what it's worth, Many is the day on the course that I couldn't wait to get to the 19th hole!
  15. Couple other things that I like about Cora's approach - there is one area in which the game has definitely changed, relief pitching. In the past, it was to a team's advantage to make that starter throw as many pitches as you possibly could, get him out of the game. Not so much anymore with starters having good days being yanked after 6. Teams need to adjust and that means if someone throws a ball directly down home run highway, perhaps you ought to pound it. Take fewer - hit more! The other change coming is the emphasis on trying to launch the ball as opposed to beating it into the ground. I still think that this approach has to with the type of player that you are. This is not some new and intriguing philosophy. A long time ago Ted had it right. What goes around, quite often comes back around.
  16. But and I mean this seriously, Boston still is a place that is attractive to the best players in the world. We all have our own opinions about what it is like just living in the northeast. I wouldn't live anywhere else. There were times when each of those truly great players probably deserved a little booing.
  17. With him, I think that it is about the health. If he is healthy, he could still be a devastating hitter.
  18. I think that the Pollyanna approach began when he was signed. He has put up some good numbers for us but I remember the number of people who focused on what he had done prior to 2012.
  19. Bing honest though - come on guys - under performance is the biggest source of boos but this is Boston. I remember Paoi being booed. It's a tough crowd up here. Get the job done and you get revered. If you don't get it done, you probably are going to get a ration. It's how it is.
  20. that is interesting - Price might very well be the single biggest key to this season for us well.
  21. He just sounds a little less robotic to me. He sounds like a for real human and I like that. I'm sure that Farrell is also a good guy but he was as stiff as a board. I think that it is going to be ok to laugh and act like you are having fun this year. It is a privilege to be able to play at the ml level. It is ok to loosen up a little and enjoy it. I also like what he has said with respect to some subtle baseball differences as well such as he still wants aggressiveness on the base paths but we need to be a little less reckless.
  22. I would think and hope that they would at least sit him down. I think that from the sounds of things Cora gets it. It isn't simply because I agree with everything he has said that he will do to date either.
  23. Just heard a very good (in my estimation) interview with Tom Caron. Sounds like players and coaches and all things management agree that having that big bat in the middle of the lineup will mean more hittable pitches coming to the guys in front of him. If all of our underachievers have bounce back years, I think that this will be one of the reasons for that.
  24. I'm pretty sure that I agree with you here. Based upon some of the things that they have done over the past couple of years, our ownership appears to be very sensitive to the current social climate. Does keeping Wright on the roster maybe look a little hypocritical? There very well might be a great deal that we do not know about this situation. I'm ok with that. It is not that I don't care it is just that I really don't want to know everything about everything.
  25. I think that Cora wants to win . That is a good thing. They have to find out early what Hanley has. Maybe it is a big if but if he has it then having him in the lineup will us win more games. It is that simple.
