I think that there might be an apt comparison between Theo and DD but if you are saying that Ben Cherington even looked close to being ready to run an organization effectively - sorry No Way. You can mention all of the minor league signings that you want to also I still do not give Cherington or any GM credit alone for those signings. Having an experienced competent GM is a strength. I'm glad that we have one.

Absolutely - I hope this kid has a great career. I have always been a huge supporter of his. The but is that we have Chris Sale. I'm ok with that trade for sure. Moncada- Kopech - We got one of the very best pitchers in the game. When I saw Moncada play in Portland, I was amazed at how much more physical he looked than any of the supposedly talented prospects that were yarded out to play that day. He made Benintendi look small. He looked like the only player out there who would be able to play ml baseball. Good luck to him - hated to see him go until I actually saw what he helped us acquire.

With Dave, I don't really see much at this time that shows that any of his deals were terrible. He did give a lot of players to acquire real talent. On our team, most of those guys were destined to be role players for us or they were blocked for sure. I understand totally that some here did not necessarily like these deals because it goes against a very solid philosophy that they believe in. As for me, I have enjoyed watching the stars he has acquired compete.

That is a good catch. Good one. That crafty old Ben must have been one helluva player for us don't you think? I just can't remember where he played nor how he hit. lol

An excellent point. Maybe DD should have read the fine print on the job description contract - need to also be a fortune teller!

Now I can once again agree with you Bellhorn. I like that. DD did what he felt needed to be done. He did well. No one could have accurately predicted what the market was going to do any more than they can predict what will happen going forward. Hindsight, hindsight, hindsight. We here tend to do this (second guess) the decisions made by our GMs in general. People can hate the Moreland sign all they want it still was not a bad sign - actually a good one at the time. Moreland represents the type of player I want to see in a Red Sox uniform.

There is a chance that he ultimately gets traded I guess - I hope not though. I think that there is also a chance that he winds up playing a very significant role for us going forward. Some of that will be determined I think by whether or not his catching skill improves. I know that I am wearing the label of being a DD lover but one thing I think I can say is that Dombrowski is not likely to be outsmarted by any other GM out there. He is an old horse trader.

It is good to see Ball out there. It's at least the second time he has been out there.

I think that that is the way to go as well. What good does it do to try to read something in to a stoy that isn't there with respect to any injury. If he is really injured we'll know soon enough.

I agree with you Emp. I'm not sure what ultimately happens with Swihart but the only place I have heard much about possibly trading him is on this board. I suspect he'll make the 25 man and if he stays healthy and hits he'll see playing time somewhere. They won't just give away a guy with his potential. They really don't have any major pressing needs at this time.

I don't see it that way at all. One a little more positive than they other I guess but essentially the same. Give what we have on hand a shot before going out to sign someone who may or may not be an upgrade. I wonder if sometimes you might see what you want to see in other people's postings?

Don't blame you at all. Never can have too much pitching. I'm really hoping that one of those guys we have gets a chance and gets it done.

That is your opinion and I'm sure there are people here who agree with you. I do not care what Dave did in Detroit and obviously I don't share your opinion. To date, I am very pleased with the moves he has made for our team - the Red Sox.

Well you have already seen two pretty good answers so I won't bore you by saying the same thing just to make it three. As an aside though, I have never for one second felt that the overall strategy has been to go all in and then expect some ridiculous dropoff in a couple of years.

Probably right but it would be one of the toughest things an athlete like him would have to figure out. My guess would be that once the season starts, he would have a hard time doing this if it was advised. Really the only way to keep him from possibly getting hurt in the field would obviously be to just dh him. I would be surprised if that happens though based on everything that we have read.

I agree with you here very much. Why spend the money on another potentially over the hill pitcher. They had it once, doesn't mean that it magically comes back again. I think that some of this discussion comes from a few here who just don't like DD. I don't think that it will make any difference what he does or does not do. He seems to be an independent kind of guy. I like that.

Me not advocating for what you are saying doesn't mean I necessarily disagree with this. I'm just saying give the guy a chance.

Does he still have the same injury concerns that kept him from being more aggressive going after wall balls? Doesn't sound to me like he does. I don't really think that suggesting that he is wall shy at this time is fair. I'm giving him a chance.

Maybe it is possible that DD feels that Johnson, Velasquez, and Elias represent better options than going after what some have referred to as "dumpster dives".
