  1. If there is a shred of proof to these rumors, I don't see this working out very well for either side if JD comes to Boston. Obviously it is all about the money. At some point, doesn't it have to be about some things more than just that? If the answer to this question is no, I'm going to be moving away from ml baseball. I do still think that there are some players who play for something in addition to the $ but maybe there aren't as many of them as I have hoped there are. I don't blame Martinez for trying to get a fair payday but the Sox have offered plenty and he isn't happy with the offer. Move away from him DD.
  2. He could be wrong but there very well might be something to it. If DD is intent on waiting this one out until the end, I think that he is making a mistake. I really hope that he moves away from him. I've suspected for a long time that if the money is even close that he would choose Arizona over Boston. 125 for 5 for JD Martinez doesn't seem to be making it - time to go to plan B if there is one.
  3. Maybe through a slow process of scrimping and saving Ryan Dempster felt that he had enough money to see him through.
  4. I'm to Scottish and set in my ways - f*** em all says me
  5. I would be very curious to know how this is affecting to fan base in general. I know how it is affecting me.
  6. I really agree with you here but in some respects it still doesn't make much sense to me. Do you think he thinks that by waiting longer he is going to add another 25 or so million to the offer? I would think that to be unlikely.
  7. I think that that is a logical take on things. I'm not going to let logic get in my way though. My experience with most realtors for one is that if they can sell your house for less not more than what you think it is worth they will do everything that they can do to move it. Do you really know agents up there Bell who will suggest a higher price than what you think your home might be worth? Going back to baseball and the issue at hand, there really is fairly large difference between what I might like to get for my home and 125 million dollars for 5 years of work. It becomes particularly significant to me when there seem to be no better offers out there. When you are talking this much money, yes I call it greed. I do agree with you for sure about the human nature take on things.
  8. and that is all about greed - when you are talking about astronomical figures like they are asking for, it defines greed. I could care less also about what an owner makes. Good luck to these morons for trying to be as capitalistic as they can be. It is what we do. I'd like to say that sometimes you win but sometimes you lose but if these fools sign for 5 or 10 million dollars less than what they want, they still don't lose. Even though I am very pleased to see the Sox seemingly holding the line, I still wish that they would head in a different direction.
  9. So - Cut off his nose to spite his face so to speak Harmony? If he chooses to play somewhere else (Arizona) it will likely be because he just doesn't want to play in Boston. Boston's "lowball offer" still looks like a fairly healthy offer but if he really wants to play somewhere else, it might take a bigger overpay to get him. I personally am done with him. I really wish DD would head in another direction. If he signs with us and rips the hide off the ball, i still will have a very hard time being a fan. To them it might be a business, but to many lifelong fans it is a great deal more.
  10. you sarcastic scoundrel you
  11. It is a shame and pretty much a ******** stain on the current state of the game if this even a thought in a player's mind which I think it certainly could be.. It is about the money I guess. I'm so happy that I fell in love with this game in a different time. Ted sure as hell could have sat out the second game of that doubleheader as well but he made the right choice. I wonder if he got any extra loot for that? I don't think so.
  12. Got to say Fred that I am with you all the way. I will also say though that I have been ok with all this money being spent on entertainment but I have just about reached my limit. The pay scale for professional athletes is a joke. Trying to really determine what an average salary is is even more of a joke if for no other reason than none of their salaries are truly average. How is the average human being working at an average but maybe even good job supposed to identify with this world of make believe?
  13. I agree with this very much. I'm actually not 100% sure that I am going to watch this ml act very much longer.
  14. no I do not and I would be all for performance based clauses. At some point the Union gets involved and for all the good unions do and have done in general in an effort to treat everyone the same sometimes there just is a dark cloud.
  15. Oh stop - that makes too much sense!
  16. I was thinking of him. I'm ok with that - what you said also - lol
  17. I'm beginning to think that the establishment of things like a luxury tax in an effort to bring parity to baseball in order to just make everything equal has worked against our current crop of free agents who hope to get an even bigger piece of the existing pie. No one can blame an owner for not willing to go above and beyond an established luxury tax roadblock but when you own a franchise like the Red Sox you will still make money. Maybe Congress should get involved (we will be hearing this soon) and set limits as to how much $ an owner is eligible to earn - not. I am sick to death of hearing that someone who has been offered 125 million dollars for 5 years of any kind of work feels as though they are worth more. I would suggest to most of these overpaid athletes that if they scrimp and save than maybe one day, perhaps even before they are 40, they will be able to buy into a bigger piece of that pie on their own.
  18. I'm not sure which direction the "system" is heading but I will say that this game we love and what it at one time meant to us has certainly changed. There aren't too many kids using black electrician's tape and screws to keep their bats and balls together these days to say nothing of using cow patties for bases in the farmer's field next door. I beginning to think that I don't like this game anymore.
  19. Very true.
  20. Does this make what the owners of ml franchises earn wrong? It is all very relative. I know plenty of people who are self-employed who make more money through "under the table" work than they do with respect to what they claim. And by the way their poverty pleading makes a whining sound that keeps me awake at night.
  21. I like this
  22. Why? What incentive do they have to do that? People are still finding a way to pay the price. I find it quite ironic that people always complain about who can't attend these games but the seats are still filled for the most part.
  23. You are making a great case for the poor and downtrodden worker bees who signed those stinking contracts. Poor poor Mookie- I feel so damn sorry for these guys. Wonder when we will start seeing actively protest. it shut isn't right. They didn't really mean to sign those ridiculous contracts.
  24. As most of us have thought and said all along - Boston and Arizona - Good for DD - I hope that he continues to hold the line. He is not worth what he thinks he is. If Arizona can pay him, good for them. My guess is that he loses a lot of money if he does not sign with Boston. Screw him and the Arizona pony he rode in on.
