You summed it up pretty well for me here as well. I love Kimbrel and would love to see him stay here but I think that that will be up to him. I hope and I don't think the Red Sox would make a huge monetary commitment to a closer no matter how good he might be.

notin - really - now you are are kind of calling me close minded right after I said that I would consider trading almost any of them if the deal seemed to favor us. That is the key for us close minded guys. Has to favor our side.

notin - When you ask a question couched in one of your statements, do really expect an answer or are you just expressing how you think others might feel. I'm fairlly confident in saying that many teams in baseball would love to deal or steal if you will Swihart away form us. If there were offers even worth looking at, my bet is that we would have heard something about them. I would lump Swihart in with most of the rest of the guys on this team. There are very few of them that I feel are untouchable with respect to the right offer. Once again, doubt seriously that DD will be giving him away until we see what he is capable of. Might but I hope not and I doubt it.

thanks and I think that it is healthy to have opposing points of view from time to time. Had to add - Maybe DD and I are two peas in a pod. He may not know everything about analytics but somewhat like me I don't think that he opposes much of anything that can be done to make our team better.

Seems to me that all moves made can be labelled panic moves if people don't like them. I don't mind the signing at all thus no panic to me. Actually though I don't label any moves as panic moves. I would sound like I know more than DD. I don't.

That is your opinion which I respect. But it is an opinion no matter how sure you might be and regardless of a prior track record that you think a hat can be hung on. It is my opinion that the decision to ramp things up came from ownership - GM - followed by the coach. I don't think that Cora told them who to bring in. That is my opinion which I respect as much as I respect yours. i can point to nothing that makes me feel this way other than I believe in a chain of command that normally starts with the bosses. If he is listening and taking the suggestions of others and seeing that the job gets done - I call that both spearheading and initiating. i don't get to choose who does what based on something that I think I know or on what I think is any type of prior knowledge.

I think that we have a couple of guys at the top of our rotation who really would have no problem at all doing that if the need arose. All I keep hearing about is how goddam much power this yankees team has. Because you hit for power doesn't mean you are tough and I like our toughness a shitload more than I like that of any yankee. Let the games begin.

I think that you certainly get a lot of support here for that opinion. I just don't think that DD thinks that way. I hope he doesn't. It might come to that at some point for sure but I do agree with Kimmi on this one. If he hits like like he did many moons ago unlikely or not his option is going to vest and it might not be the worst thing that could happen for us.

My opinion for what its worth is that vesting option be damned if the man has a throwback year and hits. I don't think that any of you are seeing things clearly if you think that making sure Hanley doesn't get the at necessary at bats is any kind of a priority for this team. Winning is the priority and if Hanley really hits, Hanley really plays.

Speak for yourself Tonto. I have no concern at all about Price's elbow. As much as Jacksonian wants us all to be crapping our pants worrying about it, I'm not. Aint going to happen. Two aces at the top. There is no way the Yankees even really come close to our starting pitchers. I don't buy the ifs factor any more than I would for any team. They all have ifs. This team has got it and the pedal goes to the metal as far as I am concerned.

He sure as hell gets it here doesn't he. I'm curious to hear how our analytical folk take to the idea that yes DD understands its relative importance, has embraced it, and is making sure that his coaching has all of the tools it needs to get the job done. Who do you suppose is behind that - Ben maybe or Larry - sure and hell couldn't be that old school numbnut Dombrowski lol . Oh by the way Bell, does hindsight also say that he should have foreseen the injury to Thornburg before pulling the trigger. ********

I think that you are right. The health of the starting pitching will have a great deal to do with each team's success. I'm not quite as detailed as some are here but the way I see it is this - most people won't argue that the Yankees lineup from top to bottom looks freakishly good. Ours isn't bad probably right behind them. As far as the starting pitching goes, if everybody stays healthy, I really think that the Red Sox will have as good of a starting core as just about anybody in the game. Two aces at the top does not hurt. Good luck - it is going to be a fun ride.

Based on everything that I have read, heard , and now seen, I think that this could be the year of dueling aces. And believe me they will duel in a friendly sort of way. Good luck with that Yankee fans.

You saying that it is a fact of life implies to me that you don't think that I understand that. I do. Most people I hope would when you are talking about two role players at best who have a very similar skill set.

Most of us here understand totally why Moreland was signed. Although I absolutely agree with Jack on this one let's not get carried away. He said it very well but numerous people have expressed a similar opinion. I think that the people who sound adamantly opposed to the Moreland signing are in the minority. I'm glad you liked the Moreland signing. So do I.
