  1. Sale - Price - Porcello - Pomeranz - Rodriguez - Johnson - Wright Now now before I have to listen about all of the injuries and suspensions and how someone as in Johnson is a lifelong minor leaguer, let me just say that I like that group going forward. Right there we have the potential to have everything a team could need including depth. It of course is all about the health but it is the same for every team in ml baseball. No team is immune from injury.
  2. I think that he could be. I'm guessing that someone else probably does also. As you have said before, what Marrero could give us someone else can as well. I don't think that the Red Sox would basically give up on him if what he had they didn't think was replaceable. Holt obviously impressed management and deserves his opportunity but I still think that defense is important to the the guys who run the team as well. Lin could be that guy and I suppose that even Hernandez down the road a bit could get a shot as well. I like Marrero and he does have talent just not enough for this team this year. I don't think that the fact that someone had an option remaining and someone didn't made much difference. They chose to go with the guy who looked better than the other guy in this case. Something had to give.
  3. Yes I did and thanks.
  4. I'll miss him because I like him but they have got everything he can do covered. Lin
  5. So I'm thinking that he is locked up for potentially 5 years not 2 - wrong?
  6. Good for Marrero - I hope that he gets a chance to play a substantial role so that at least he can find out what he can do. I always have liked him. Good for Holt. Obviously he has done enough to impress the boys in charge that he is healthy and able to help this team going forward.
  7. Tell me where I went wrong with my factorin, because I got him locked up possibly through 2022.
  8. If those 5 are our starters at the beginning of the season, I'm not sure that it is bad at all. Two potential aces at the top - who else has that. I expect Porcello to be what he is - a solid innings eating mid rotation kind of guy. I just like Johnson. If he is healthy, I just don't think that it is like throwing some bum out there just to fill a spot. I think that he can pitch. I'm not buying into what the negative Nellies are serving.
  9. 94 and 68 for me. Substantially better than last year right.
  10. In those few games that we saw him pitch when things were good for him, I loved watching him. Not a power pitcher by any means. Just a guy who looked like he knew how to pitch. Great hook and great location. A pitcher like this is as much fun for me to watch as that big power armed throw it right by everybody kind of guy.
  11. I think that you are right of course. I'll try a little harder but I think that you know that it probably won't always seem like collegial animosity (lol). Two of the biggest and best markets for athletics on the planet. It is particularly good for ml baseball at this time. You said earlier in a post that players these days are different. I'm not sure that I totally believe this but I'm pretty sure that baseball fans have changed as the games have gotten longer - attention spans have gotten shorter. This rivalry promises to pump some life into the game. I said earlier that I am a Yankee hater but I'm really not sure of that. It's more of just a competitive thing for me. Now back in the 60s when the Yanks were really THE YANKS, yes I'm thinking that I hated what they were but I still loved watching the greatness that came with them. This could be a fun year to be a fan of baseball! - forgot to mention that some of my dislike for the Yankees came from the simple fact that until 67 we kind of sucked for quite some time. I was a second baseman and my choice of heroes when I first started playing was either Chuck Schilling or Bobbie Richardson. Mull that one over for a bit!
  12. I'm surprised that the jackman hasn't posted a response to you already. Imagine this - he has been trying to educate the likes of me with respect to how little spring training means. We all know those Yankmees weren't really trying. I think that it means quite a bit to Johnson though. He likely could be just what we have been looking for!!!
  13. like I have continually explained to you - we will soon know . let the games begin. now that should be a concept that is easy to understand.
  14. In all seriousness for a change, I really think that if everything in his life is good he really could be quite an addition to this team's pitching staff. He flat out knows how to pitch. We've all seen it. I'm really pulling for this guy. Plus - I was never really a "Yankme" hater until I started paying attention to Jackman's posts. I'm there now!
  15. Come on boys a little love for our main man Brian Johnson.
  16. BRIAN JOHNSON - might just be his time!
  17. I'm kind of liking me some Brian Johnson right about now. Come on Jackman let me hear how spring training means nothing or maybe that he just ain't agonna get it done. Like I said, if he is healthy and in a good place we all might be surprised. He knows how to pitch.
  18. I understand exactly what you are saying. I think that you understand that the Sox will compete. I just don't agree with your gloomy assessment of all of the but ifs. I think much of what you are saying could be said about any number of ml teams. I'm pretty sure that in your mind I am not seeing the big picture clearly. I think that I am just not from your lens. I would certainly say that the Yanks are small favorites based on what they did during the off season. Sox in my estimation are very close and I do think that we have more depth than you and some others think we have. I'll say it again - Let the games begin.
  19. Man oh man are we ever in for it. Kind of looks like we really stink huh - according to your very careful assessment. Oh well, I just don't think that we are going to be as bad as you want people here to believe. Let the games begin I say.
  20. No offense but I think "Jack" does a pretty good job of trying to convince Red Sox nation to be concerned about everything while tending to make it seem as though the Yankmees are just awesome from Cashman on down. I think that we are looking at two very talented teams. I don't share "Jack's" concerns for the Boston Red Sox moving forward. I think that we will be just fine.
  21. It is a little unbelievable that this team could even be competitive based on all of the projections quoted and potential injuries that are there just waiting to happen. I agree that much of this type of nonsense comes from people who ardently support other teams but some of it even comes form the homers themselves. Every team in both leagues will have issues that they will have to deal with for sure. Pretty much like you I'm sure, I like our team's chances. Of course it is going to be competitive. It always is. I'm not into hind sighting, second guessing, or cliffs even. With good management which is what we have, all of these issues that seem to be causing so much unrest are resolvable. Oh and for the record I could care less about the Yankees and their incredibly talented farm system. We'll see how good their team is as well as their awesome farm as the season progresses. I like a team that has great options going into the season. We have that at almost every position. No worry from me - I'm anxious to get things moving.
  22. I mentioned this about a week ago when I read the article where Cora made some interesting comments about this guy. It looks likely that he will not make the 25 man but who knows. looks like he understands something that is very important - how to get people out. Looking forward to following his progress.
  23. I'm fairly certain no one posting here cares how it looks. You can feel and you can say anything you choose to say about any professional baseball player here it looks like to me. It is your opinion as it is everybody elses. We don't speak for the owners of the Boston red Sox. I'm pretty sure that whether he has under performed in the past or not, if it appears that they are making an attempt to keep him from getting those at bats, they are going to care greatly. I honestly hope that it doesn't come to that. It will be a very bad day for everyone involved. If it happens this way, do you think that anyone would accept a contract with a vesting option similar to this from the Red Sox ever again. I don't want to see Hanley get those at bats either but if they pull the kind of s*** here that some are suggesting I predict that they will be in a world of hurt. It is not my problem for sure but that is my opinion and it is one reason why I don't like this kind of contract. It makes no difference whether anyone here likes or dislikes Hanley Ramirez.
  24. If everybody slows down for a minute and just thinks about the ramifications of what happens if Hanley comes up 10 or 20 at bats shy of the magic number, it just doesn't look very good for the home team. No one is going to care about 22 million and very few will take the stand that Hanley didn't earn it and that they are all over paid to begin with. It would become a social media nightmare I'm afraid in this day and age. If he is injured or just isn't playing well, that is another matter. I'm predicting that one way or another it won't be close if he doesn't get enough at bats. Most people me included do not want his option to make it but for us to say no way is one thing and the reality I think is something entirely different.
  25. Every point that you brought up here I think is an excellent one. I agree for the most part with what you have said. It will be interesting to see how Cora deals with the situation in general. I think that I like Moreland more than most here. By the end of May, I'm thinking that we will have a pretty good idea whether or not the option will vest. So many things will factor in and for the sake of everyone I hope that he is either well above or well below the needed at bats.
