  1. He was talking although of using JD in the outfield to make sure that everyone stays rested. I'm as anxious as anyone to see if he is as bad out there as most say he is. I doubt very much that he is. Pretty sure Cora has confidence in him out there.
  2. Must watch t.v. up here in the north woods of Maine.
  3. spring training doesn't count. haven't you heard? LOL
  4. I don't disagree with you here at all.
  5. This is kind of a tough post for me because I know that some will disagree pointedly and I will probably question to myself of course if they are actually being honest or taking the high road and trying make themselves sound good. When King George started to do his thing, the game changed. My Red Spx friends as well as myself were very upset with what he did. After I while, even though we hated the change we were seeing, it became fairly apparent that our anger had as much to do with jealousy as anything else. You are right about one thing Moon, I will not be a hypocrite when it comes to this one. This is as much new school as anything I have seen in ml baseball. Big market teams with a lot of money to spend who continually make money while spending do in fact buy wins. I am a Red Sox fan and I want them to be competitive every year which I think they will be. It is why I absolutely do not buy into this cliff theory that many here are trying to sell. As long as John Henry owns this team, I doubt that we ever stumble over any cliff. Call me old school for sure because I truly do miss the old days when teams grew their own for the most part and brains in my estimation played a greater role in overall team development. I also loved the fact that in many instances players spent their careers playing for one team and loyalty was earned and respected. Sadly I don't see us going back and I am not angered by any team's moves anymore nor am I jealous of them. I believe that we are at the top of the food chain and I am ok with that. Now understand that this is just my idea of a rant and it is just a silly opinion.
  6. I'm the guy who thinks that quite often what these guys do in spring training counts. Walden and Poyner pitched better than Workman. They earned the right to be on the 25 - he did not. Maybe He will figure it out and maybe he won't.
  7. Ok for clarification purposes only - Are you saying simply that you just like Cherington more than you do Dombrowski or that you think that Cherington was actually a better GM than DD? As for the chumming comment, i was trying to be a little humorous. I should know better right.
  8. I have actually seen hammies torn on the alley. I was kidding. I have 0 concerns about Mookie getting hurt bowling. It is another passion of his and I'm glad that he is enjoying it.
  9. You are chumming the waters but I'm not taking the bait. I'm perfectly ok with you thinking that Ben Cherington was a better GM than DD. If you are ok with that one, it is all good. I learn new things here everyday.
  10. Now let me see what would you say - ha!
  11. Thank you Moon for posting this. I think that we have a very good team assembled here from top to bottom. Plenty of depth everywhere. Infield defense may be an issue but other than that, hey let the games begin I say. I like this team.
  12. We all think that depth is unimportant for God's sake and every signing DD has made just flat out sucks - honestly who hired that moron? lol
  13. I can't! Pomeranz - minor injury expected back very soon E-Rod - throwing expected back early Wright - already throwing (I would have traded him when he was at his best - if not named Wakefield I'm not into knuckleballers) Sale - Price - Porcello - Johnson - good to go We might not have everyone good to start next Thursday but I'm thinking that this is a very good group and soon enough the overall depth will look fine as well. There are definitely posters here who just don't like DD. I think that he has been fairly thorough. Thing for me is that he doesn't have to do what I think that he should and I might even disagree with him from time to time, but I still think he is doing a good job in a very tough racket.
  14. yes - i don't want him tearing a hammy at the bowling alley.
  15. Cora has been talking about Poyner for a couple of weeks now. It's another good story and another possible option as well. I am a fan of Tommy Layne's as well.
  16. Sale - Price - Porcello - Pomeranz - Rodriguez - Johnson - Wright Now now before I have to listen about all of the injuries and suspensions and how someone as in Johnson is a lifelong minor leaguer, let me just say that I like that group going forward. Right there we have the potential to have everything a team could need including depth. It of course is all about the health but it is the same for every team in ml baseball. No team is immune from injury.
  17. I think that he could be. I'm guessing that someone else probably does also. As you have said before, what Marrero could give us someone else can as well. I don't think that the Red Sox would basically give up on him if what he had they didn't think was replaceable. Holt obviously impressed management and deserves his opportunity but I still think that defense is important to the the guys who run the team as well. Lin could be that guy and I suppose that even Hernandez down the road a bit could get a shot as well. I like Marrero and he does have talent just not enough for this team this year. I don't think that the fact that someone had an option remaining and someone didn't made much difference. They chose to go with the guy who looked better than the other guy in this case. Something had to give.
  18. Yes I did and thanks.
  19. I'll miss him because I like him but they have got everything he can do covered. Lin
  20. So I'm thinking that he is locked up for potentially 5 years not 2 - wrong?
  21. Good for Marrero - I hope that he gets a chance to play a substantial role so that at least he can find out what he can do. I always have liked him. Good for Holt. Obviously he has done enough to impress the boys in charge that he is healthy and able to help this team going forward.
  22. Tell me where I went wrong with my factorin, because I got him locked up possibly through 2022.
  23. If those 5 are our starters at the beginning of the season, I'm not sure that it is bad at all. Two potential aces at the top - who else has that. I expect Porcello to be what he is - a solid innings eating mid rotation kind of guy. I just like Johnson. If he is healthy, I just don't think that it is like throwing some bum out there just to fill a spot. I think that he can pitch. I'm not buying into what the negative Nellies are serving.
  24. 94 and 68 for me. Substantially better than last year right.
