  1. I like Pomeranz but I would not be surprised as well to see him take a step back this year. It is still possible I guess that we have not seen his best either. I 'm really hoping for that. Essentially for me, I think it means that we need Porcello to step his game back up.
  2. Cora says he is pretty damn good also. Works for me.
  3. Sorry Moon i really do hate to do this to you but you are starting to sound a little too much like notin for me. You are kind of making it sound like my statement had anything to with feelings. it did not. I so not care at all about the feelings of overpaid pampered professional baseball players. Not one bit. Probably I should have been clearer. I want the Sox to be a cleanly run organization. I'll say again it will be absolutely a bad way to run a business if it becomes known that the Red Sox are sitting Ramirez simply so the option does not vest without letting him know upfront what they are doing. That is my opinion. I know that it isn't particularly a popular one here and I don't care. In my world, there really isn't much that is more important than the way you treat people whether you like them or not.
  4. Once again Moon, I don't really think that it is a matter of anyone wanting to have Hanley Ramirez back next year badly. It will certainly depend on a few things having to go very right for him if he does. Personally, I would love to see Sam Travis progress to the point that he could step right in to that first base role. As he will probably be this year, Moreland would continue to provide a capable backup. Jerking Ramirez around or somehow letting him know up front (which certainly would be the better of the two in my book) keeping him from getting enough at bats in my estimation would be a piss poor way to run a business. I'm in great hope that this org. is above that kind of rinky dink crap. If that's the game plan, which I do not think it is, release him now!
  5. I disagee - a panic move would be one that did not appear necessary. That move did . The only panic I see comes from posters here.
  6. It is a tired refrain for me that is all. I don't believe in the cliff theory. I thought you knew that. Doom and gloom - that is all it says to me. It wasn't directed at you so much as to the people who have consistently been whining about the Ramirez and Moreland contracts. Maybe I have said things differently but I certainly am not the first person to mention this and if it continues to be such a hot topic I will continue to make my feelings known.
  7. I think that you are right on on this one. It all depends on a whole lot of stuff either going right or wrong.
  8. Moon - come on - I do like reading your posts and am sure glad that we have a poster here who just keeps it going but really who has said that Swihart or anybody else on this team is untradeable? I don't think that that is the point anyone is making so what is the rush? I sense panic in posters here for sure but not in the Red Sox management team.
  9. One more thing that I just don't get here, is why are some of our more prolific posters so hot to swing deals and make trades right now. We have a damned good team here. Why not just relax and enjoy watching the growth that we have. I hope that we hold a pat hand just as is. There is 0 not to like about this team.
  10. I think that if Sam keeps plugging along, he will get his chance. if his power numbers really start to look like they are for real, he may get his chance sooner as opposed to later. I hope now I get to hear how blocked he is because we have Hanley and Mitch ahead of him with their disastrous contracts and oh how f***ed we are because the cliff is coming and our glory daze are numbered and blah blah blah blah - ******** - think I said that a few times before.
  11. Boy has Pomeranz come a long way or what Moon? Almost everybody absolutely hasted the trade, and now "it won't be easy" to replace Pom. Wow. I 'm one of the few who liked the trade and I would like to see us keep him obviously based on how he pitches this year. If he has to be replaced, I'm not sure that it will be that hard to do. A potentially solid mid-rotation stater.
  12. I really hope that you are right. I don't even feel comfortable talking about where he might be in the future. He needs peace and space from the masses right now. He has stated that he will be ready to start the season if everything works out well for his family. I don't think anybody in their right mind would question his loyalty or his work ethic. Looks to me like he is the kind of guy you want to keep around for a long long time.
  13. No - Not Poyner then does not count. Cora is high on him and I get it.
  14. How about Bobby Poyner? Has anybody even mentioned his name here. This is a guy that actually might help coming out of the pen.
  15. I'm guessing that with notin Spud it isn't likely to happen. lol There will be no humor aboard this vessel.
  16. You summed it up pretty well for me here as well. I love Kimbrel and would love to see him stay here but I think that that will be up to him. I hope and I don't think the Red Sox would make a huge monetary commitment to a closer no matter how good he might be.
  17. Are you from Maine? I've heard that expression from time to time up here. But - Anything does go up here.
  18. notin - really - now you are are kind of calling me close minded right after I said that I would consider trading almost any of them if the deal seemed to favor us. That is the key for us close minded guys. Has to favor our side.
  19. notin - When you ask a question couched in one of your statements, do really expect an answer or are you just expressing how you think others might feel. I'm fairlly confident in saying that many teams in baseball would love to deal or steal if you will Swihart away form us. If there were offers even worth looking at, my bet is that we would have heard something about them. I would lump Swihart in with most of the rest of the guys on this team. There are very few of them that I feel are untouchable with respect to the right offer. Once again, doubt seriously that DD will be giving him away until we see what he is capable of. Might but I hope not and I doubt it.
  20. hmm - maybe to true but what the hey.
  21. Kind of a figure of speech notin but hey once again thanks for correcting me - right. For what you could get for Blake Swihart right now it would be akin to giving him away.
  22. thanks and I think that it is healthy to have opposing points of view from time to time. Had to add - Maybe DD and I are two peas in a pod. He may not know everything about analytics but somewhat like me I don't think that he opposes much of anything that can be done to make our team better.
  23. Seems to me that all moves made can be labelled panic moves if people don't like them. I don't mind the signing at all thus no panic to me. Actually though I don't label any moves as panic moves. I would sound like I know more than DD. I don't.
  24. That is your opinion which I respect. But it is an opinion no matter how sure you might be and regardless of a prior track record that you think a hat can be hung on. It is my opinion that the decision to ramp things up came from ownership - GM - followed by the coach. I don't think that Cora told them who to bring in. That is my opinion which I respect as much as I respect yours. i can point to nothing that makes me feel this way other than I believe in a chain of command that normally starts with the bosses. If he is listening and taking the suggestions of others and seeing that the job gets done - I call that both spearheading and initiating. i don't get to choose who does what based on something that I think I know or on what I think is any type of prior knowledge.
  25. alas one of my favorite words!
