  1. truer words have ...
  2. Talk can sound awfully tough through the written word on a forum like this. It is just my opinion but if Ramirez is healthy and having a decent season there is no way that this organization would jerk him around by keeping a close eye on his at bats allowing him to come close but to not quite reach the designated number of at bats. As a group, this ownership has proven to be very sensitive to just about anything. If he is healthy and hitting, I don't think that there is any way they would want to deal with the crap that would come along with playing a game like this with anyone 22 million at stake or not. Now if he is injured, or just not playing well, I think the game changes.
  3. Joke = Not according to Pedroia!
  4. I would think that Marrero would have more value to other teams. He at least does one thing very well plus he comes cheaper.
  5. No doubt. I agree.
  6. Yup - kind of like what Ted was talking about so many years ago. When you were first taught to hit a baseball, did anyone tell you to hit down on the ball and hit it into the ground? Not me - no way - I wish that they had though. It would have worked for me. It is not a new theory just people trying to reinvent something by using language that needs a definition.
  7. I agree. It just kind of looks like we have a small surplus of pretty talented players here. It does make it a little tougher for guys like Travis and Swihart to get the opportunities they need to showcase what they can do. Have to admit - I'm anxious to see guys like these two play. they will get their chances - hope they are ready. Oh and for what it's worth, Moreland continues to plod along doing what he has always done. I like his game and I like the player.
  8. Maybe I misremembered! Roger that
  9. Once again I get how some of you view spring training results but really did that box score today tell me that Travis just hit his 5th home run of the spring? Now it is starting to get interesting.
  10. Slasher - Pom Pom will be just fine. He has been drinking the same Kool aid that Price has. All systems go!
  11. me too and I think that he will
  12. That's an unfair question for Slasher. He hates Price. Pick somebody he likes like Pomeranz (lol). whoops sorry probably no option there. (my beat shot at humor for the day!) weak humor
  13. I wonder if there is anyone living on planet earth who wouldn't make a fuss under those circumstances? I'm not sure what would happen but I'm pretty sure there would be plenty of crap flying everywhere if it did. I can understand why no one wants to see his option vest - I don't either but if the Red Sox pull some shananigans to make sure he doesn't get those at bats my bet would be that it would not end well for our guys in general. I'd rather see him be released.
  14. Hey - didn't you tell me about the unimportance of Spring Training stats in general? lol For the record, I am curious about what Ramirez will have to offer. If he has nothing, I would be very pleased to see a Sam Travis call up. I'm just as curious as to see what he could possibly give us if allowed to play for an extended period of time.
  15. Pitchers hitting in those days made it even better for me. It's a little easier in the AL these days to plunk people when you know you aren't going to be standing in the batters box anytime soon. I still kind of miss those old daze.
  16. it's probably hard for everybody to believe that neither Holt nor Marrero has drawn much interest from other clubs.
  17. Billy Buck was one of my favorite baseball players. Most of us who were alive at the time remember this game vividly regardless of how many times we have tried to forget it. He shouldn't have been in the game at that time, we all pretty much know that but I always felt that the treatment he recieved at that time was really unfair and damn near tragic. As you two have mentioned (Spud and Moon) there were other things that happened along the way that could have changed the games outcome. It just wasn't meant to be I guess.
  18. I think that it is because you are a fellow Mainer but I'll take it. Thanks - lol
  19. Great article about Kimbrel's return today. Accurate, appropriate, emotional- this man and his wife get it. It must be borderline torture for him right now. I think that he is pretty pleased with the care his little girl is getting in Boston. Very pleased with the Red Sox organization as well. Sometimes I guess there is a place where doing the ethically right thing is very valuable. Hope they never change.
  20. I'm really pleased that you posted this. I feel exactly the same way you do. It has to do I guess with the way I was brought up.
  21. I just like the choice of words better - hastiness and maybe even rash as opposed to panic. It could have been a hasty move and maybe a bit rash but to me not a panic move. That implies to me that no thought at all was given to moving him and I do think that however we feel about what they did with Swihart, that there was some thought given to the move. Whatever, it kind of looks to me as though he is going to have that super sub role. He is going to get his chance. Teams showing interest in Marrero might help change the landscape a bit and it is great to hear that Kimbrel is going to be rejoining the team. Let's go!!!
  22. Oh and by the way, I realize that I'm standing kind of alone on this too. I'm thinking that I might see the world a little differently. Maybe I just don't get out much.
  23. Evidently in your world that is how it works. You are entitled to that opinion.
  24. My opinion obviously is going to stay the same. i'm not arguing whether Hanley is owed anything at all. My point would be all about ethics, integrity, and honesty. That's it. As for where anyone stands on the intellectual scale moon - it has become fairly obvious to me that if you wanted to know how bright notin is all you would have to do is ask him. As for me - oh well - it doesn't really matter to me much whether people posting on this site think I am a fool or the court jester even. Like many others here I'm sure, I had a successful career and I am very proud of that. Trying to make others think that I am bright, not my style. I'm comfortable with my intellect. Heres to you and your brilliant friend.
  25. I do sort of agree with you here. I'm not sure they handled his development particularly well also. I hope that he gets a good opportunity to make a solid comeback.
