  1. We are all a bunch of numbskulls who just don't get it. Maybe someday we will smarten up.
  2. I think I could like it again.
  3. Based on everything that I have read, heard , and now seen, I think that this could be the year of dueling aces. And believe me they will duel in a friendly sort of way. Good luck with that Yankee fans.
  4. You saying that it is a fact of life implies to me that you don't think that I understand that. I do. Most people I hope would when you are talking about two role players at best who have a very similar skill set.
  5. Most of us here understand totally why Moreland was signed. Although I absolutely agree with Jack on this one let's not get carried away. He said it very well but numerous people have expressed a similar opinion. I think that the people who sound adamantly opposed to the Moreland signing are in the minority. I'm glad you liked the Moreland signing. So do I.
  6. It is starting to look obvious that the Sox don't see him as being their first or second catcher moving forward. They wouldn't have him playing so much elsewhere if their plan was to catch him often. I still think that they will look very hard at this kid before giving him away. He is to talented and athlete just to give away.
  7. Looks obvious to me. Holt has that option right so away he goes.
  8. So is Price! Let's go
  9. Oh no no no - Maybe you have determined this Bell along with what two others maybe three. I think that there is still a majority here who get what the significant importance of a strong number three guy in that lineup is all about.
  10. Did I say that it doesn't happen? I think that I understand that it does. It probably isn't habit forming though. This topic has been pounded to death. Some of this would be determined by who gets to decide who the "better " player is. My opinion - it is a way of doing things that I detest.
  11. I got to tell you I've always liked Cobb but I sure don't know what it would take to get him. If he is healthy, why wouldn't he be potentially a mid rotation kind of guy? Not cheap and I still think that we are ok for the time being. I am also fairly confident that DD is looking into everything that he can to get more pitching. He is likely not to get screwed by anybody though.
  12. I'm not sure that it was a good signing Moon but I'm just not sure that I'd call it horrible. He has a great glove, some pop, and more importantly he looks to be a team player. He is not just some stiff plucked out of the barnyard. There others more talented but he is the kind of player that it is really hard to go wrong with.
  13. thanks Jack - sadly for me it points out that I don't know what I'm talking about roughly 3/4 of the time. I don't take myself very seriously! lol
  14. he has an option and everybody knows that if you have an option you go down before someone who doesn't have an option even if you are better than they are. That is pure sarcasm because I don't believe in that theory at all. Best players make the team. Now in Holt's case there really isn't much not to like but when you get the most at bats you have ever gotten in any season before or since on one of the poorest teams in baseball - that doesn't scream indispensable to me. Send him down and at least keep Marrero around for the glove.
  15. oh Harmony come on - don't talk dirty to me with all that sexy talk - steamer (a fine clam) - zips (what our opponents get a lot of when Sale is on the hill) - Marcel (not sure about this one - some Frenchman trying to sell me a bottle of cheap wine?) Got to remember who you are talking to. lol
  16. But Moon after carefully scrutinizing what Ben accomplished, what does that say about Theo and his recommendation? Maybe he didn't want to face us in the World Series anytime soon. lol-lol- just a little joke all of you Theo lovers. Got nothing better to do.
  17. I think that it is more likely that he is an above average hitter and quite possibly a below average fielder for a while at least. Since we already have a few of those guys, I see him fitting in quite well. Not sure he ever develops into the catcher that people at one time thought he could but he is certainly athlete enough to field the huge hole (lol) left by Brock Holt if someone thinks that it is time to change. I'm not sure that I ever saw him catch a game that I said after what a good catcher he was. Never saw it. Just constantly heard potential potential. The but is that he is one helluva an athlete who I think makes this roster in a make it or break it year for him.
  18. Anyone might have been an excellent value in those two years. If memory serves, we were really bad- really. I'm not suggesting that Holt had much to do with this but his greatest achievement during those two years may have been simply to keep fan interest. He was a curiosity - How many different positions can a guy play? Having him not on the 25 man to start the season might really be the best decision. We pretty much know what he has to give us. I'm not impressed.
  19. Anyone who can suggest that they have any clue about what Swihart is capable of as a hitter moving forward, surely doesn't have a Red Sox perspective. He is clearly an above average athlete. I'm thinking that it is more likely that he is an outstanding hitter as opposed to a below average or average hitter. If someone was to tell me that that he was going to be our starting 2nd baseman or 3rd baseman to begin the season, I could live with it from a defensive perspective. I'm not sure that that would be much of a downgrade. Before anyone comes unglued or feels the urge to wordsmith, that is not what I am suggesting. I am suggesting that he will be a far better than average hitter.
  20. that's what I thought
  21. Interesting article on the mlb rumors website this morning. Seems that the Sox have been trying to sign some veteran arms to stash down in Pawtucket. This doesn't surprise me at all. It just is not that easy. Many of these tired old potential has beens do not want to pitch at the AAA level if they can absolutely help it. Points out the fact that DD isn't just sitting around doing nothing. Maybe something will break and maybe it won't as we get closer to the end of sp. Makes me really appreciate the signing of Tommy Layne even more. He knows where he is going and can live with it to continue the dream.
  22. They needed him. It was necessary to get that bat in the lineup. Most young players who get the call are in fact still developing. Holding him back I think hoping that his fielding would improve would have been a waste of time for both him and the organization. He really is quite athletic. He should come along. If you kept all of your youngsters back until they were fully cooked ai'm afraid that your teams would suffer on many occasions. It is possible that given time to grow into things that he becomes outstanding in all phases of the game.
  23. I think that trying to use Lin in any outfield position is a mistake. We have no clue as to what his upside might be. I certainly do not think that he is ready to be on the 25 man roster at this time. The guy is an infielder - second base/shortsop. Too much of this dinking around with kids that really could be ml someday is foolish.
