  1. I think he would have signed an extension for $400 million, but no less.
  2. The Red Sox have been in the top 4 in MLB payrolls every year since Henry bought the team. That's why I refuse to criticize them about this.
  3. Way to keep it classy Larry!
  4. Good job. This also gives us a new category for the Fun With Baseball Names thread.
  5. But some of the guys at Clancy's might say that $400 million is too much for any player. I was actually in a bar in Boston at the end of July in 2005, and there was a lot of talk about Manny being traded at the deadline because he wasn't happy in Boston or was being a malcontent or whatever. And most of the people I talked to were saying they should get rid of him.
  6. I'm guessing he has the same 400 million reasons as anyone else who says that.
  7. The one difference being that the Dodgers did very nearly lose the NLCS.
  8. A team that escapes near-certain doom like the Dodgers did in the NLCS can be tough to beat after that. The 04 Red Sox were down 0-3 in the ALCS and then ran off 8 straight. The 07 Red Sox were down 1-3 in the ALCS and then ran off 7 straight. There are plenty of other examples. So can there be momentum in the playoffs? Kimmi?
  9. Manny's high five play is one of the great baseball moments of all time.
  10. No, their OPS+ was 109, so above average. The TropDump is run-suppressing.
  11. That's because the Dodgers look like the proverbial team on a roll.
  12. How did they do it?
  13. What about Mookie?
  14. I would guess that left fielders in Fenway get more assists than average because of wall balls that guys try to stretch into doubles?
  15. Last year's NLDS did not go as well for Joe.
  16. Winnie's decline was unexpected. He was down from 108 to 84.
  17. That would be great. Something else to make Yankee fans grind their teeth.
  18. Tanking strategy.
  19. 2020 was the perfect shitstorm.
  20. Is his base running really that bad? Advanced stats seem to indicate he's a plus base runner. And for old schoolers, 53 steals in 66 attempts for an 80.3% success rate is pretty good.
  21. Yep. Rays philosophy = run prevention.
  22. Sure, the fans still showed up at the games in 2019. But NESN viewership was down by about 20% from 2018.
  23. I read that piece by Shaughnessey. It was entertaining. You'll notice that while bemoaning the Rays' style, he mostly praises the Dodgers. Why do people miss the fact that Dodgers boss Friedman came from the Rays just like Bloom, and that with Bloom the Red Sox are much more likely to emulate the Dodgers than the Rays?
  24. I weigh less than most major league baseball players.
