  1. Bauer is reportedly looking for 5-6 years at $36 mill per year. Maybe part of the reason things are going slowly is that most players are expecting to get the same kind of deals they would get in a 'normal' offseason.
  2. You should ask how the 'median' projection for Castillo is a little over 6 WAR per year for 3 years.
  3. Did it really say that? I thought the dumbest part was about the Snell trade, and how the heck did Bloom miss out on that? Should have been cake to beat the Padres' offer! Really stupid stuff.
  4. You mean you're worried he is getting ready to sell the team.
  5. The fact is that a tiny % of free agents have been signed to date. I'm still hopeful that Bloom has a better plan than you seem to think.
  6. Sounds like you see only two possible courses of action: 1) an ill-advised splashy free agent signing; or 2) doing next to nothing.
  7. A mindless piece, if you ask me. A tiny % of free agents have been signed to date.
  8. Could sign Kluber and Odorizzi, plus Hand or Bradley...that will add up too, mind you.
  9. Free agent starters who are good, durable, and affordable are hard to come by.
  10. Paxton's health is about as reliable as Eovaldi's. Rather have Porcello.
  11. Are you including this offseason as one of the 'last two offseasons'? In 2019 the Red Sox had the #1 payroll. In 2020 they had the #3 payroll - obviously without doing much new spending, but contracts already in place count too!
  12. Change a few names, and much the same applies to the Yankees. What's your team right now?
  13. My thoughts exactly.
  14. I see no reason whatsoever to be suspicious about the commitment of ownership.
  15. Since the season ended, the Rays and Yankees have gotten worse by subtraction. If Bloom makes a few nice pickups we could contend in the AL East. The AL East might be like the NFC East this year...
  16. If you think we have complainers about a lack of moves... the fans on the NYY forum I visit are having a ball with those pictures of Cashman snoozing in a sleeping bag - the charity thing he does every year for homeless people.
  17. I think Realmuto is out, so it's a good question.
  18. I don't see how you can project a guy his age who has topped at 4.1 fWAR to have 3 straight 6 fWAR seasons.
  19. And of course, there's a strong possibility that Vazquez goes nowhere.
  20. They must use fWAR, because there's a link to FanGraphs.
  21. They've got Castillo at about $150 million in actual value for 3 years, minus $35 salary for a net value of $115 million. But I can't figure out the $150 million. That would be about 6 WAR per year, but his projections are more like 3-3.5 WAR per year.
  22. Their valuation of Castillo does seem to be too high.
  23. So what about the NBA?
  24. If they can pull off a full NFL season, I don't see why they can't pull off a full MLB season that doesn't start for another 3-4 months.
  25. Jax doesn't have much patience for digging into actual facts and numbers, as he proved on the other thread with the JDM/Santana thing.
