You should ask how the 'median' projection for Castillo is a little over 6 WAR per year for 3 years.

Did it really say that? I thought the dumbest part was about the Snell trade, and how the heck did Bloom miss out on that? Should have been cake to beat the Padres' offer! Really stupid stuff.

The fact is that a tiny % of free agents have been signed to date. I'm still hopeful that Bloom has a better plan than you seem to think.

Paxton's health is about as reliable as Eovaldi's. Rather have Porcello.

Are you including this offseason as one of the 'last two offseasons'? In 2019 the Red Sox had the #1 payroll. In 2020 they had the #3 payroll - obviously without doing much new spending, but contracts already in place count too!

Since the season ended, the Rays and Yankees have gotten worse by subtraction. If Bloom makes a few nice pickups we could contend in the AL East. The AL East might be like the NFC East this year...

They've got Castillo at about $150 million in actual value for 3 years, minus $35 salary for a net value of $115 million. But I can't figure out the $150 million. That would be about 6 WAR per year, but his projections are more like 3-3.5 WAR per year.

If they can pull off a full NFL season, I don't see why they can't pull off a full MLB season that doesn't start for another 3-4 months.
