  1. We also heard they had interest in Garrett Richards.
  2. And Morton.
  3. No one pays any attention to Scott's binders.
  4. That's natural. The waiting game is no fun.
  5. There was a time we thought they might actually exceed that first threshold, because of the re-set...
  6. We're still $30 million under the first tax threshold after making a lot of re-setting the tax rate. Surely there are a few acquisitions in the near future.
  7. Pitchers' arms are incredibly fragile. Or maybe it's more accurate to say that pitching does incredible damage to the human arm.
  8. Yeah, but you'd have to do it for 9 years, remember...
  9. The perennially contending Yankees had to give Gerrit Cole a contract that shattered the previous record deal for pitchers, to get him to come to NY.
  10. I also remember Kerry Wood signing with the Cubs in 2011 for what was reportedly much less than other offers, because he really liked his time with the Cubs.
  11. Some might say if Perez is an addition for us, DJ is an addition for the Yanks.
  12. MLBTR is outstanding.
  13. That's because it was the mother of all salary dumps.
  14. Have to leave it to Jax to explain exactly how a big market owner operates.
  15. I'm a bit cynical, I think most players take the highest dollar offer. I'm reasonably sure Boston was not David Price's first pick of destinations. But $217 million overcame that quite nicely. Last offseason there were reportedly 3 teams bidding on Gerrit Cole: Yankees, Dodgers and Angels. The Dodgers and Angels hung in there at 8 years * 36 mill. The Yankees bumped it to 9 years and won the auction. That's how Cole picked his favorite destination.
  16. Perez pitched against both the Jays and Yanks in September and gave up 1 run in 12.2 innings.
  17. Seems to set up a classic Catch-22: in order to be able to get good players, you have to get good players first!
  18. Henry has never operated as a big market owner? Intriguing take.
  19. Padres to acquire Musgrove. Wow, they are gobbling up starting pitchers this offseason like Pac-Man.
  20. I think I already looked into that and found it wasn't so.
  21. Yes, and they don't calculate it till after the season. There are year end accounting adjustments to be made by the bean-counters for things like opt-outs that are exercised.
  22. It might have something to do with the fact that none of them are top tier, too.
  23. I think it made room for Perez.
  24. Hendriks got a nice 3 year deal. Any reason why relievers would be much different?
