  1. I think I'm in the little group who believe it was letting Sean McDonough go that was the bigger crime than Orsillo. I've got nothing against Orsillo, but he also drove me nuts sometimes.
  2. I assume they left a sliver of room for "negotiation".
  3. Nothing can take the sting out of letting Betts go. At least we seem to know the truth about it now, and it was actually pretty simple and as many surmised. $300 mill was as high as they were going, full stop.
  4. My hunch is that this game will be decided by a bullpen battle. But hunches can be made to look very silly by baseball.
  5. 2011 was brutal, but winning 2 rings before it and 2 after it really takes the sting out for me.
  6. Welcome aboard, Mr. Werner! 😉
  7. Sam Kennedy is actually the last man on Earth I expect to get good insight on the Sox from. 😄
  8. FanGraphs projects the AL East as a 5 way dogfight of 82-86 win teams! 😁
  9. Bard hit the wall as well.
  10. Sure. But it was the departure of Epstein and Francona that lent some credence to the idea that there were internal issues beyond the stats.
  11. Like the first 3 games of 2021.
  12. I'm starting to get a sense that Sox fans are feeling cocky again all of a sudden. 😉
  13. Since you're so determined to keep hauling that skeleton out of the closet... I don't know exactly what happened at the end of 2011, but it was a horrific collapse and it was followed by the departures of possibly the best GM and best manager the team has ever had. So I don't find it surprising that there were some ugly rumors. (And yes, I know it's easy to just look at the numbers and say the pitching fell apart in September.)
  14. I too was puzzled by this statement. Hitch?
  15. Do we think Devers will play any 3B at all this year?
  16. You know how silly we get with labels. Some might think he's too old or he walks too many guys now. But he's obviously one of the all-time best at what he does.
  17. What if Cashman's "real job" is to keep fielding competitive teams every year and to keep making money for Hal? Yanks are still crushing the field in revenue and market value. That would explain why he's still around. If Hal really thought the main goal was winning rings, Cashman would be long gone after only winning one since 2000.
  18. I'm expecting a Splintered Splendor appearance at some point.
  19. If Bloom was successful with his plan, the Sox had a funny way of showing it.
  20. There is a lot to be excited about. I'm mostly worried about injuries. Injuries have become such a gigantic factor in the game. And not just to pitchers.
  21. Anything from Giolito seems like it would be a bonus at this point.
  22. One could also argue the Red Sox were a total and inexcusable flop all 3 seasons. It's pretty hard to dress up an average of 79 wins. All depends on your perspective, and your biases.
