  1. I'll assume this data is correct. The only issue is that it may be too soon to draw any conclusions. Because the effects of the pitch clock might be cumulative/long term. I don't think anybody knows at this point. We do know that recovery time is a thing at the macro level (4 days between starts). The pitch clock is about recovery time at the micro level.
  2. I don't know if this is true or not, but it's something that we should be able to get some clear data on, because the pitch clock changes came into effect for the 2023 season. And obviously all the data on injuries to pitchers is readily available. We'll see if there's a significant increase from 2023 forward.
  3. The guys who calculate these things calculated that the present value of Bregman's deal is 95 million, not 120 million. That's 25 million dollars difference. That's a plain, simple, objective fact that you keep trying to dismiss, basically because "he's rich anyway and he'll get it eventually". And "if he stays healthy" is quite the little qualifier when it comes to a 30+ year old baseball player. I guess my overriding point is, if Alex Bregman took the Sox offer primarily based on the premise he would make more money in the long run, it was a very questionable premise, possibly even straight-out dumb. I don't think he's a dumb guy, and I don't think that was what he was thinking.
  4. Well, even if you count the $120 million at full value, he still passed up $51.5 million more than that. We don't really see someone pass up $50 million plus very often in a free agent auction situation. I'm hard pressed to think of many examples.
  5. Our team is kind of gradually trickling in LOL
  6. Grim news indeed.
  7. When it comes to money, defer also means "'less real wealth" because the time value of money is an economic fact.
  8. Sure, but the last one is really iffy IMHO. It seems to be based on the idea that some team that wasn't that interested in Bregman this offseason is going to be a lot more interested next offseason when he's a year older. I just don't see much logic in it.
  9. But you were totally leaving out the impact of the deferrals. So it wasn't an apples to apples comparison. You know that. Bregman took massively less money to play with the Red Sox. But some people are still assuming it was all about making more money in the long run. I disagree, that's all.
  10. Some guys fattening their small samples today! 😀
  11. If the glove Fitts, wear it.
  12. Which was obviously what I meant. If you keep replying you're just proving my point.
  13. These things are always very clear looking back. I still think 2013 was a miracle. I certainly agree we're not winning 97 this year.
  14. Not ideal though. I'm hoping for a healthy Story until such time as he's not...
  15. Well, he gets it if he lives that long. Deferring money for that long is no trifling matter, if you really care about money and what you can do with it.
  16. I realize. The AAV is $31.7* million. There are 3 years. $31.7 million * 3 = $95 million. What would you call the $95 million number? *Rounded.
  17. So was 2013. So was the Rangers winning it in 2023. Maybe the Sox will actually add something at the deadline this time.
  18. I spelled out "total AAV of the contract", which obviously refers to the 3 years. I believe you knew that, and you're just being irritating for the sake of it, again.
  19. I will vouch for the fact that your post was very confusing. We had a lot of discussion about what kind of offer it would take to sign Crochet to an extension. If they show him the right numbers why wouldn't he take it? And the injury risk is a known part of the equation.
  20. If the '25 team has a lot of things go right they could make a run IMHO. A postseason rotation of Crochet, Buehler, Houck and Bello or Giolito or Fitts or Crawford would be pretty decent. But that's a lot going right.
  21. As somebody once said, you can lose the World Series in April.
  22. Yeah, I thought he had it backwards. Trying to keep Mister Magoo on track here is hard work.
  23. So you're saying it's the Sox who don't want to extend them?
