  1. Cora has confirmed that there were some private discussions after the Bregman signing involving Raffy, Cora and Breslow, and he won't reveal what was said in the discussions. Interpret that how you will.
  2. McAdam has sources in the org. He's been covering the Sox a long time. If he's hearing stuff it's kind of his job to report it, using some discretion, obviously, but as I say he seems like one of the reasonable ones.
  3. moon, "the media" covers an awful lot of territory. Of course there are a lot of clickbait artists out there. I would prefer we restrict it to McAdam, who is the guy kind of leading the way in the coverage.
  4. Yes, I absolutely think this episode was worthy of coverage. Devers is our highest-paid player, best hitter, and his contract runs until 2033. If he's feeling blindsided and angry at the guys he works for, that matters.
  5. Let's take this to the new thread about Raffy requesting a trade.
  6. I'm not really buying it. It's not the media's job to apply those kind of nuances when the actual words imply the worst case scenario. And as I said in the other thread, once Raffy realized his words were being misconstrued, if in fact they were, he had plenty of time to make a clarifying statement. I think if anyone is blame in this situation it's the team. If McAdam is right, they misled Raffy all along about the Arenado and Bregman rumors, and Raffy was blindsided when it actually happened. And after all the talk about Bregman playing 2B, he has only played 3B in the spring games. Plus McAdam seems to me like a pretty reasonable guy, not a muckraker.
  7. But we have a new thread for this now!
  8. What exactly did the media get wrong here? I'd like to see someone answer that.
  9. I don't think Raffy is totally blameless in this. If he thought his statements that were made through the interpreter were being misconstrued, he had ample time to set things straight. Just my take. And I like Raffy a lot and wish him no ill will whatsoever.
  10. No, that plan would have stunk too.
  11. In my opinion, the trade was ill-advised because of the lack of other moves with the rotation. I think if everyone knew at the time that all they were going to do was sign Giolito, most people would have criticized this trade.
  12. Well, it's not much of an article, but to be fair to Jackson, it was mostly a recap of what another blogger said, and Jackson said this: If there's one thing that's for certain, it's that the Red Sox have to ignore the Sale piece of all this. Looking back, there's no guarantee the lefty would have stayed healthy and been a Cy Young contender last year if he'd stayed in Boston, and at any rate, the Red Sox should only be looking forward.
  13. I don't think it was all a media creation. There was some bad messaging all around, and Devers contributed to it.
  14. One thing I always chuckle at when watching my DVD's of the 2004 postseason is Tim McCarver making a big deal of my man Bellhorn being an unlikely choice as a #2 hitter.
  15. We need Kimmi here. I believe the idea of having your "best" hitter up second is that you benefit from a combo package of their higher PA's, RBI opportunities and their OBP setting up the hitters behind them.
  16. A healthy rotation is pretty much an oxymoron now. The Dodgers seem to have the right approach-by starting with about a dozen guys, there's a good chance of having 3 healthy ones in the playoffs. Admittedly it's an approach that gets a bit pricey...
  17. I won't get too excited about our offense until I see Devers healthy and hitting. To me his health is still a question mark.
  18. As of this moment candidates for 4 and 5 are Giolito, Fitts, Priester and Criswell. Pretty Cap'n Obvious, really. And Giolito's hammy issue just as Obviously makes him a tad questionable.
  19. But that will probably include Crochet and Buehler, so I don't think that's exactly what you mean.
  20. Nice comeback win for the Sox last night! 😉 Mayer with the clutch two-out game tying hit, and now OPSing 1.071! Criswell with 3 scoreless and 4 Ks to notch the win!
  21. Big fan of figures of speech, huh? Looks like the original version of this saying was "the proof of the pudding is in the eating".
  22. Man, the Sale trade and the Giolito signing were cursed transactions.
