  1. In the words of the new leader of the free world, "Come on, man." I don't think there's any empirical evidence to suggest that championship teams standing still have done a lot worse than the ones who made a bunch of changes. If there is, though, I'd like to see it.
  2. I'm really tired of hearing about the cliff, moon. I think all us posters here are intelligent enough to realize what led to this, and don't need to have it explained over and over. Can we stop using that word, or at least phase it out or something?
  3. Another hilariously off-topic thread going here.
  4. In 2019 the pitching fell apart out of the gate. There was really no way to see it coming.
  5. Many said 2019 was Cora's fault. The important thing is, someone must be blamed!
  6. Yet if we reverse all Dave's trades, we wouldn't be a whole lot better team right now. And the only guy Dave traded who has ever put up a star-level WAR is Moncada - and he cost $62 million. And we got Sale for him.
  7. Redundant qualifier. When you say 'may', you've already expressed uncertainty, rendering the 'or not' superfluous.
  8. You and 5Gloves are in a neck-and-neck race for the 2021 Grumpy Cynic With Sarcasm-Laced Posts Award.
  9. For all we know, this Red Sox team may be like one of those Rays teams, seemingly short on recognizable names and talent, but with a habit of outscoring the opposition.
  10. We're all a bunch of schlemiels.
  11. Can you do that and still be a "utility player"? Because Kike Hernandez did it twice with the Dodgers.
  12. Sign the man.
  13. The 'selling low' part might be a little overstated. Beni is a free agent after 2022, so the windows of opportunity to trade him were shrinking. And if he doesn't turn it around in 2021, the 'selling high' opportunity never comes.
  14. ??? They held on to Verlander until 2017 when they were horrible.
  15. It was meant humorously, I swear.
  16. I would have liked Beni and Renfroe in left, Pillar in center and Verdugo in right. And maybe a Dalbec/Moreland platoon at first. But Bloom doesn't seem to give a damn about what I like.
  17. I'm guessing here, but I think the $200 mill offer for 8 years came after the 2016 season, with 4 years left before free agency. But yeah, it seems Mookie's mother kind of did us in.
  18. Bloom is doing what he was brought here to do. Like many others, I just hope the 2021 team is 'watchable', as we like to put it. If it isn't, it could be an ugly year, with NESN ratings continuing to slide, which would surely be a source of consternation to JH and TW.
  19. Everything has an impact. But the 68 million to Eovaldi is a drop in the bucket for a franchise that threw away 255 million on Pablo, Hanley and Castillo. And both of those contracts only had 2 more runs to run at the start of Mookie's new contract. It just doesn't add up to preventing the Boston Red Sox from keeping one of the best players in history.
  20. The point I'm trying to make is that when they were talking to Mookie, they still hadn't signed the extensions with Sale and Bogey, so they had much more room. We're just going to have to face the facts that they could have kept Mookie if they were willing to meet his price, but they chose not to.
  21. No, it just means it wasn't because of DD bloating the payroll.
  22. You'll be saying that till your dying day, won't you? The timeline sure suggests they signed the extensions with Sale and Bogey AFTER the failed negotiations with Betts.
  23. Jeezus, what a depressing thread this is.
  24. Hernandez got a lot of playing time with the Dodgers. 462 PA's in 2018 and 460 in 2019. So he was playing about 2/3 of the time.
