  1. I'd rather he call some pitchers, personally.
  2. And MLB already had a 60 game regular season and an extra-long postseason...
  3. And you can't compare to Harper or Machado, either. They were free agents. Mookie had 2 years before free agency when they made the offer. Normally there's a tradeoff between risk and price.
  4. No. He ended up talking an even lower AAV. And I'm confident the $300 mill was an opening offer.
  5. $307 million present value over 12 years apparently was...
  6. People have been underestimating COVID-19 from the get-go. One more month of mitigation and we're good! Yeah right...
  7. If they really want to keep everyone safe, have no season at all. One more month is a tiny adjustment.
  8. Well, they did offer him $300 million. Why do you keep leaving that out of the equation?
  9. Was a month really going to make a huge difference, though?
  10. The pandemic was a pretty nifty X Factor in the matter though. How could Mookie turn down 10 years and $300 million (presumably only an opening offer) and then sign for 12 years and $307 million in present day dollars, if it wasn't all about playing where he wanted to? Ask yourself that.
  11. You're preaching to the choir on that point. The only real question is did the Red Sox screw the pooch in historic fashion, or did Mookie hardball-negotiate his way out of town?
  12. Mookie is a fantastic player, but was he great for the Red Sox franchise? I'm not so sure. We're going on limited info, but he did turn down multiple offers and seemed to take a hardball line with the team. On the other hand you have Xander Bogaerts who signed an extension for one-third of what Mookie was looking for.
  13. I think Bloom's patient approach will pay off for us over the long run. But this year he's still in a tough spot. If we don't crack .500, a large part of the fanbase will either be tuned out or expressing discontent. Chaim knew what he was getting into here, though.
  14. Maybe very few guys period are very good for many years, and the ones who are are your HOFers...
  15. Find me the smaller guys who compare to what he's done so far in his career. He's got exception written all over him, I'd say. Still, 12 years is a long time.
  16. That's quite a claim. How much do you weigh, exactly?
  17. Third mistake of 2021?
  18. For me it only reinforces that trading Mookie was a long-term decision. They weren't just thinking about 2021 and luxury tax. They were resigned to the fact they weren't going to pay him as much as what he wanted and he would be a free agent, so they had to trade him. And they think the flexibility part will last until 2032, so even if they semi-punt this year, they could be more aggressive in a year or two.
  19. Surely to God someone is going to sign Porcello. MLBTR predicted he'd only get 1 year and $5 million. I don't get it. He's still durable and the advanced stats still like him.
  20. Sorry, Kimmi. But please, don't take me too seriously. It's just a way to vent some frustration. If we make another decent signing or too, I'll feel better.
  21. I agree. Bauer is taking advantage of great timing here. And maybe a little of that sticky stuff...(his spin rates were crazy last year and he pretty much told everyone why).
  22. You can't honestly say they were trying to field a competitive team in 2020.
  23. Who would also have to be taken for 2022.
