  1. This deal seems totally reasonable for both sides. He can opt out after 2030, so it added 4 years of guaranteed control.
  2. Pollys might argue that the difference is the current stretch was preceded by months of rest/rust. But either way the numbers are staggering.
  3. But what did the Sox see in his approach that they liked when the Yanks came to hate it? The Sox were 18th in Ks in 2023. They were 3rd in 2024. So far in 2025 they're averaging 11 per game.
  4. No. When they hired Lawson last year (or in December/23) it sent a chill through me. Like I say the big beef when he was with the Yankees, and it was a very loud beef, was that they had become a home run or strikeout type offense, swinging out of their shoes. I thought this was a guy to stay far far away from. The Yanks fired him mid-season, which is pretty rare with a hitting coach. I'm probably blaming too much on this one guy, but the fact they hired him and then promoted him indicates that there's something in his approach they're buying into. I don't get it.
  5. Fire the hitting coaches. I think the hitters are following Dillon Lawson's "swing hard in case you hit it"* approach, the one that got him fired from the Yanks. * It's actually "hit strikes hard", but it looks more like what I said.
  6. Fire the hitting coaches, for starters. I don't see how they can be doing a good job when the hitters are acting like wind turbines so much of the time.
  7. Yeah, it seems like the team is just as confused about what's going on with Devers as we are.
  8. There's a little more to it for me. Our offense was terrible the last 6 weeks of 2024. And we seem to have become a team that strikes out at a crazy rate.
  9. It could be either or a combo, but the thing is, he has never ever looked anywhere near this bad.
  10. I have a really, really bad feeling about our hitting coaches, Fatse and Lawson.
  11. The other poster said his OPS was .552. I tried to let it pass, but I just couldn't.
  12. But what should they be doing with him, if he swears he's 100% physically?
  13. Devers's OPS in the 4 games is .111.
  14. He's actually had more like 25 horrible games in a row counting the end of last year. And the reason that last year's games are also relevant is that we don't really know if the problems that existed then still exist or not.
  15. Raffy only had 15 PAs in spring games after reportedly not picking up a bat all offseason. I get that this is one explanation for him looking so slow and rusty. But what gives us any confidence that the issues that prevented him from picking up a bat aren't still there? Did they magically disappear some time earlier this month?
  16. I'm not buying the move to DH as being the problem. Per Red Sox Stats: Raffy’s stance was 51° open in the summer of 2023, it opened up to 68-70° by last summer, and through three games this year it’s open 77°. Why is he opening his stance so much? I have to think it's some sort of compensation for the shoulder issues. I also think that if his shoulders are still seriously bothering him he might not be fessing up about it.
  17. Yeah, I know, it is premature. But this stuff does happen. And finishing one season with 9 Ks in 3 games and starting the next with 10 Ks in 3 games is big-time unusual. Not even pitchers struck out at this kind of rate.
  18. Dillon Lawson. The Yanks fired him because their offense had become a one-dimensional, home run or strikeout thing. I was baffled when the Sox hired him. Now he's been promoted to assistant hitting coach.
  19. But do any of these other guys have 10 Ks in 3 games like Devers?
  20. And just like that, 40% of the division is playing .333 ball!
  21. I'm just afraid that whatever the issue is with his shoulders, it's debilitating in a career-threatening way.
  22. I'm more than a little concerned about Devers. We've never seen anything like this kind of futility. He seems to be exactly the same as he was at the end of last season when they shut him down.
  23. Yeah, I'm going to have to side with you on this. Most seem to think we could only recover 5-6 million AAV if we trade him. Therefore, the opportunity cost of not trading him is 5-6 million. As a 5-6 million insurance policy for the offense, I think it makes sense to keep him. Hopefully they'll be straight with him that he's in Worcester until he's needed.
