  1. His Recency Effect is strongly favorable, though, with 203 innings in 2019.
  2. I liked the Eovaldi signing at the time, and I'm not going to back off that now. He pitched at a pretty high level in the 2018 regular season as well as the postseason. Heck, even Kimmi liked the signing, except she thought it was one year too long. The guy has top shelf talent. Obviously the injury concerns are very real.
  3. Interesting because I thought it was reported that the team suggested the bulk up.
  4. Some fine pitching tonight, folks. Eovaldi, Sawamura, Ottavino and Taylor combined for a 4 hit shutout. It was only the Orioles, but still.
  5. This all started with notin suggesting that Sale signed a below market contract, he called it a 'Suspected Injury Discount'. Then we were off to the races LOL. But I don't anyone said they knew for sure he was injured. More like factoring the risk of injury into the deal.
  6. Let's put it this way: if they really weren't worried about his health, maybe they should have been. I think even Sale himself said that his whole career he's had the threat of TJ surgery hanging over him. He's been kind of an obvious candidate because of his build, his motion and how hard he throws.
  7. But you're the one who said he's a great pitcher, even though he's never won more than 17 games.
  8. $145 mill, Nick, not $245 mill.
  9. I think there's a poster here who has it in their signature line.
  10. Semantics? You said last place. You are too much sometimes.
  11. We'll see how it turns out. Because of COVID they only paid Sale $9 mill for last year, so that shaves more than $15 mill off the total cost of the contract.
  12. So you're officially predicting the Red Sox finish last this year. Got it.
  13. Regardless, Sale is one of the best pitchers in the game. We risked $128 million (present value) on him. You guys risked $324 million on Cole. Elite pitchers are expensive and risky.
  14. I think it's pretty obvious there were injury concerns, but there was also uncertainty.
  15. Roll of the dice, I guess. One of the best pitchers in the game when he's on. Plus it seems like they realized they wouldn't be signing Mookie to an extension, so they went quickly to Sale and Bogaerts. Not many seem to remember it, but this is exactly what they told the fans after 2018 - they hoped to keep 2 of them, but didn't think they'd be able to keep all 3.
  16. Sale had been pitching like a man possessed - 1 run allowed in 6 starts - when they put them on the IL the first time that year. I highly doubt it was done to manage his innings.
  17. And JD has two hits today. So he's been on base 5 times in 2 games.
  18. Not sure it's rewriting history. He missed most of the last 2 months of the 2018 season, and he was used in the 2018 postseason very carefully.
  19. If they just let ERod walk, that would be rather disappointing.
  20. I do like the SID acronym.
  21. Owners don't have to peep. They just have to sign. Henry has never been the most loquacious fellow. And it doesn't help that most everything he has said about players or payroll has been turned against him somehow.
  22. I don't care if Henry is hiding in a bunker in Afghanistan. We still ended up with a payroll just short of the tax threshold this year. You'd have to be quite a pessimist to really believe this team has suddenly decided not to spend.
  23. $145 mill, present value $128 mill - I'd call that a pretty big discount for a pitcher with his numbers.
