Made the clubhouse better and made the defense at shortstop a whole lot better. Theo astutely recognized that Nomar's defense had seriously regressed and was a huge liability.

And in 3 out of our 4 championship years we made very helpful acquisitions at the deadline. The only exception was Gagne in 2007.

If we're in position for a deadline acquisition, taking someone else's salary dump would be much more palatable for sure. I don't think Bloom wants to trade any prospects this year.

One thing that's becoming clear is that 2021 is going to be dominated by pitching. The average BA in MLB right now is .233!

Valid observation. I would say they decided this was a year to just cozy up to the first tax threshold. Hopefully next year they're willing to exceed it.

There was a good story in the Boston Globe a week or two ago about the Red Sox scout who kept telling the team to get Whitlock if they could. The unfortunate part of the story was that said scout was one of the guys the team let go in their COVID cutbacks.
