  1. Tatis hurt his left shoulder on a swing last night. Apparently he's had issues with this shoulder before. Another illustration of why $300 million + contracts are scary.
  2. Andriese loaded the bases with one out. You're always off by one these days.
  3. Meanwhile Porcello still sits at home, despite a 3.33 FIP last year...
  4. Max has thrown the entire season of game threads into turmoil.
  5. It's that cat and mouse game between pitchers and hitters that keeps baseball always interesting to watch.
  6. There's some good news, though: Benintendi is hitting .154 and JBJ is hitting .125, so no one would have liked seeing that either.
  7. I'll see your 3-9 start and raise it to a 2-10 start in 2011.
  8. I think most of us (including the projections people) were under the impression Chaim was putting together a team that would be above .500 this year at least... Which could still happen.
  9. Ben left us with virtually no pitching at any level.
  10. The current team is a joint production of John, Ben, Dave, and Chaim. Nobody is without credit or without fault.
  11. Can't make much sense of this.
  12. Jax is all excited because Kluber made it through 4 innings yesterday.
  13. You sign a guy like JD Martinez for 5 years and 110 million, and everyone is happy at first. 2-3 years later most of the fans are itching to unload him. Funny how that works.
  14. And as I wrote in the comments section of that article, the intelligent fan only cares about the budget because they know if the team spends stupidly it will hurt the team sooner or later. Which should be fairly obvious, I would think.
  15. Knowing Max, I don't think he was being serious. But this isn't especially funny, either.
  16. The Lester offer was flat-out Lowball City. 10 and $300 million wasn't quite that. But it still sounds like a minimum bid when you're talking about Mookie Betts. Maybe they should have started where the Mets did with Lindor, 10 and $325. Give a signal that you really want to get this done. None of which matters, of course, just something to pass the time by musing about...
  17. Not much point in this as an actual thread, is there, Max? We've already got one called Major Concerns that was started after the first game. This is pretty much the same as a thread titled We Suck. Silly.
  18. It is the fans who provide the money to the organization. It's the executives of the organization who get to decide how to spend it, of course.
  19. But we know that they made an offer of $300 million. It's not like they were just letting him walk away. I think what it came down to was they drew a line on how high they would go with him, just like most teams do in any negotiation. The only real question is whether they drew the line too low.
  20. Most Sox fans liked JD's contract a lot when he signed it. And he has earned it up till now. Talk about trading him and eating money just shows what a low point the team is at.
  21. The overreactions are funny, but it's all part of the 3 ring circus of being a sports fan...
  22. It appears to me that in the 2018-2019 offseason they went to Betts first. When that fell through they went to Sale and Bogey. The Sale and Bogey extensions came together right at the end of that offseason. I guess the puzzle will always be why they didn't make a bigger offer to Betts. $300 mill wasn't an insult by any means, but it wasn't what you'd call a strong opening offer.
  23. You're kind of pushing some political buttons here.
