  1. We're talking .400 OPS, right?
  2. August 31, 2020 is the answer to both.
  3. That makes it sound like aces win every game. I guess Jacob deGrom is no ace.
  4. Without looking it up in B-R, he was in the Sonny Gray trade?
  5. In a nod to Tyler, who often discloses what's he eating, I'm having a Wendy's double cheeseburger combo right now.
  6. Things can change in a hurry, in a game where you play almost every day. The Yankees are 10-3 in last 13.
  7. Career .479 SLG and .767 OPS, though.
  8. I'm leaving out the money savings. Beni's AAV was 5 million. It's debatable whether the savings were actually required. The value of Winkster and the others is 0.0 for 2021. Future value TBD.
  9. In his last 15 starts, Franchy has gone hitless in 13 of them.
  10. As of today: Cordero bWAR -0.3 Beni bWAR +0.5 So it has maybe cost us a win.
  11. But as you have pointed out a few times, we still have one of the highest payrolls. And Bloom did spend enough this offseason to get us within a few million of the tax threshold. So I think it's fair to say the team was trying to do what they said, which was to field a competitive team.
  12. 1998. He waited till the postseason to blow one. (Sorry Tom.)
  13. All I'm saying is this move left us a little shorthanded in the outfield. The trade itself may be fine, but maybe should have picked up another outfielder.
  14. Yes. And frankly I had forgotten that Williamson had 3 saves in that series. And Timlin and Embree pitched 10 combined scoreless innings in that series. And all 3 were ready to go in Game 7.
  15. Agreed, and nice analogy. Fortunately no one here has a time machine at their disposal.
  16. The one questionable thing Chaim did this offseason was replacing Beni with Cordero.
  17. I would submit that going back in the time machine and removing Price would be slightly risky. With him on the mound we won games 2 and 5 of the WS by scores of 4-2 and 5-1. Both of those games could have been lost with poor performances by whoever you would replace him with.
  18. Yes, that's a fair point. I think maybe the real issue is that they should never have started tinkering with the baseballs to begin with.
  19. Oh I know. We were just playing a silly game of "Which players can we retroactively remove and still win the World Series that year?"
  20. We could have won without Eovaldi, since the only game of the WS he helped in, we lost. We're pretty much down to Pearce, and Beni for that catch.
  21. And as Slasher used to say, we could have won that year without Betts. I think someone also pointed out we could have won without Kimbrel, too. Quite the little game to play.
  22. I regret the Pablo/Hanley/Castillo signings much more than the Price signing. At least Price made contributions to success.
  23. You're thinking of Snell being pulled in last year's World Series. The data is never going to guarantee the manager a thing. It's just going to show that the pitcher TYPICALLY starts to get hit more the third time through the batting order. Of course we all should remember that time the manager IGNORED the data that he was shown right before the game, and decided on his own not to pull Pedro...
