  1. That grade was for the trade last year. Mitch was a free agent at the end of the season. Dalbec has upside and is hopefully getting it going now.
  2. Mike Chavis not starting although he had a home run last night doesn't really qualify as a head-scratcher.
  3. I might even say he's doing more than that, considering our record. IMHO one of the key moves by Bloom was re-hiring Cora. Based on the reports, he was conflicted about it because of the cheating stuff and they had some intense discussions, but Cora ultimately won him over.
  4. What smoke and mirrors?
  5. 58 PA's 39 Low 15 Medium 4 High So hardly any high leverage. But I'm curious about the situations you're talking about. Where are they?
  6. I think that's a strawman about his physique. I don't think anyone here has seriously suggested he'll break down because he's too small.
  7. I looked through his game logs and couldn't find anything like this. Taylor pitched well in 2019. Last year was a writeoff. This year has been shaky but he's done well in his last 5 appearances.
  8. I wasn't, really. I don't know that much about the real Ted.
  9. I can accept 6/3 as a Quality Start because a) it's the baseline; and the 6 innings part is clearly good.
  10. I like this, although I would say that only two of the changes should be slam-dunks - the 5/2 and the 8/4. With the 3 and 4 inning quality starts, the question arises whether this was actually what the team needed. 3 innings leaves 6 to cover for the pen. But in some cases, obviously, like with a spot starter, 3 scoreless innings might be getting the job done.
  11. Dom was not much in the looks department. And his bat was smaller.
  12. You've got double mojo going. 2 thread starts, 2 Sox wins and 2 Yankee losses.
  13. Plus he has survived several bouts with cancer. And he doesn't whine about any of it. Good guy.
  14. Have some mercy on the Leafs and their fans. They haven't won since 1967. My poor brother-in-law is a Leafs fan, New York Jets fan and Detroit Tigers fan.
  15. Really happy for Dalbec. He killed it last year and this spring, then ran into the buzzsaw of MLB pitchers who now had a "book" on him, as they used to call it.
  16. Yes, and having given this much more thought than I should, I believe that Williams's numbers are more impressive because of the absurd .482 OBP. Also, we know now that Yankee Stadium was much friendlier to left handed hitters than Fenway was.
  17. What this also illustrates is that in small samples, OPS in particular can be a distorted stat because of the inflationary factor. One home run yields an OPS of 5.000.
  18. It was former Red Sox scout Bob Hamelin who persuaded the team they should grab Whitlock if they had the chance. It was a great move whatever you want to call it: find, gamble... Personally I like to think of it as picking the Yankees' pocket.
  19. I do think it's reasonable to assume that Bloom will be given the same type of latitude as the other ex-Rays guru Friedman got from the Dodgers, and that he will exercise it.
  20. Yeah, they look awesome. What a homer.
  21. In 2019 it was Restgate. This year it's 14gate.
  22. Out of the remaining 4, the one with the least innings is Brice at 8. If we didn't have him from Day 1, those innings would likely have gone to DHern, Taylor and Valdez, all at 11.1. Yes, they could have absorbed those innings. But for whatever reason, they wanted to have a look at Brice and the other 3 as well. They knew why they wanted 14 pitchers, and that's all that matters.
  23. Except he's been walking the ballpark.
