  1. No posters were going crazy about it. Some people thought they should have made a more serious effort to extend Bogaerts instead of signing Story. Certainly no one was in favor of giving Bogaerts $280 million.
  2. The issue is that turning down extension offers, which he indisputably did, is not the same thing as stating your intentions to be a free agent.
  3. Betts did not tell them he was going to FA, no idea where you're getting that. Zack Scott explained the whole thing very well (there's a thread here about it) and everything he said supported Mookie's version of events.
  4. Composure is kind of a big ask for a sports fan web site. As for the Red Sox, starting with 2022 there have been plenty of reasons for angst and dissatisfaction in the fandom. And the early results in 2025 contain some bad signs that there is more on the way. When it's an enormous struggle to beat the White Sox, that's concerning.
  5. They didn't re-sign Betts because they didn't want to pay him what it took. It was a mistake regardless of the farm system.
  6. Counterpoint: a big chunk of that OPS came from the 2 HRs off lefty pitchers Friday night. He's hitting .739 against RHP, 1.467 against LHP.
  7. He was at 96 pitches after 6 innings. Sometimes you can have a 1-2-3 inning but throw 20 pitches, which would have put him at 116 pitches, which is a little too much at this point in the year. I'm kind of a Cora fanboy, but I think he does an A-1 job with the pitching changes. Of course when a decision backfires he's going to get blamed.
  8. Maybe, but they've been giving the Red Sox a battle these last 2 years.
  9. Sometimes I say things like that just to see what the reaction is. I do believe there's some truth in it - when you go from being a powerhouse like the Sox mostly were in the years 2003-2018 to a mediocrity like the 2022-2024 teams, it tends to adjust expectations downward to the point that you're relatively happy if the team is projected to win 85 and have a shot at a Wild Card spot. It's also a sweeping generalization that doesn't apply to a lot of fans, as we can see by reading the game threads.
  10. Holy smoke! We're actually playing the White Sox and it's the third of a four game series. But far be it from me to mess with the mojo man of the moment.
  11. I think the Red Sox front office has done a great job lowering our expectations.
  12. Not sure who is the real underdog in this game.
  13. None of us have any idea what's going on with Devers's shoulders. But he has a .684 OPS and only 1 home run in 20 games. Sure doesn't seem like he's fully operational.
  14. Don't coaches have annual contracts? I honestly don't know.
  15. How does it save the team money?
  16. OTOH pulling themselves off the mat and winning the last 2 against the Rays showed something. I'll just go with Parcells here: we are exactly what our record says.
  17. Personally I think next offseason could be ugly, with a CBA battle/lockout looming. Not to mention the economy might be in the tank...
  18. Sure, but it's kind of an instant logic fail that when he got no 200 million offers this year at age 31, he's going to get them next year when he's 32...
  19. Sure he will. He'll be a year older but twice as good!
  20. Doesn't walk that much though.
  21. So in this last series we scored 9 (average 3.00 per game, lousy), gave up 20 (average 6.67 per game, lousy) but won 2 out of 3. Just another reminder that in baseball the data is derived from the games, but the games aren't derived from the data.
  22. We've only played poorly half the time! Hopefully we're not exactly like the 2024 Even Stevens.
  23. Good thing Breg's leave didn't start yesterday - it would have cost a W for sure!
  24. Pregnancy timing could be the difference between making the playoffs and not.
  25. I find it hard to summon much optimism about Giolito.
