    Probably neither. If they're in contention, no way they trade Barnes. They likely won't make him a big offer, either.

    What we're talking about is trading guys at the deadline when you're in contention. Last I checked, they didn't trade Snell at the deadline. The only deadline trade they made when in contention is the Stanek guy, I believe, and they got somebody better back. You're going to have to come up with some better examples than that.

    You guys do realize that in those wonderful future years you're dreaming of, there may also be players in their contract years? You going to trade them at the deadline too?

    Some skepticism was warranted by the numbers. Last year he had a 4.30 ERA, 4.84 FIP, 1.39 WHIP, 2.21 K/BB. Not much to get excited about there.

    That's not true at all. I think most people figured Barnes would be the closer or would get a good shot at it. But he's never been this good before - nowhere near it, in fact.

    Of course we'd get something good. But if we're in contention, getting something that doesn't help in 2021 just ain't gonna cut it.

    He's been up and down, and I never would have predicted Cora would go to him for 2 innings last night. But he sure came through.

    OTOH, Xander did accept a below-market deal, IMO.

    They can't send him down, you know. The only way they can remove him is by way of the 'phantom IL'. We don't have other good options. Give him a couple more chances to turn it around.

    The way Barnes is pitching, I don't think even Bloom could upgrade from him, not in a deadline deal.

    Yeah, if we stay in contention trading Barnes cannot possibly happen.

    It did feel a bit strange, but these Rays guys see things differently. I suspect that the return being offered was a little more than Bloom expected, so he jumped on it. Beni's value was pretty depressed after a bad second half of 2019 and a nightmarish 2020.

    Marwin drove in 2 runs and basically gave up 1. That's a plus game.

    Value-wise, Renfroe is a good comp for Beni. Renfroe has been the slightly better player, and he's only making 3.1 million. Beni has an actual AAV of 5 million, will get a boost next year in his final arb year.

    Yeah, unless Beni significantly increases his power output, he's basically an average big league player.
