    Now Jacob deGrom is under scrutiny. This is another huge mess. And the fact that idiot Manfred decided to switch the baseballs this year is only adding confusion over what's going on.

    Every team is in trouble in a one gamer. As for a series, we've swept 3 from each of the Yankees and Rays, so that's encouraging.

    The consensus seems to be that Sale will be back in the rotation in August.

    If it's only the new ball causing the higher spin rates, Manfred is even more of an idiot than I thought.

    When we acquired Porcello he was coming off his best season - 15 wins, 204 innings, 3.43 ERA. I would say he benefited from some Recency Effect.

    I think the Astros are cheating again, somehow. Especially when they play against us.

    It's hard to tell a player is ready from his AAA stat line. Franchy Cordero is hitting .435 for Worcester after hitting .179 for Boston. Doesn't that say a lot right there? Like major league pitching is vastly better?

    To clarify, I'm not complaining that we didn't sign Porcello. I'm just surprised that no team has. Why would his 2020 numbers scare anyone off? As you say it was a small sample, and some of the peripherals were good. Maybe he just wasn't that interested in signing for a small amount. He's not short of cash, I'm sure.

    Is FIP really all that meaningful? I honestly have no idea. Seems to me if it was a really really big deal, Rick Porcello would be pitching in the majors this year.

    Bogaerts .321 JDM .319 I would predict at least one of them will be over .300. Maybe the sticky stuff crackdown will lift averages a bit.

    I wouldn't hold my breath on that. From my armchair, I have some sympathy for the hitters. Pitchers throw harder on average than they ever did, and they can make the ball break more than they ever did.
