  1. Somebody said there's a lot of luck involved in one-run wins and losses.
  2. It's never going to be just about the short-term results of the trade, though. The trade enabled the Dodgers to sign Betts for the rest of his career.
  3. There are plenty of things Cashman can be blamed for. -He hired Boone and all the other coaches, and this Yankee team has had a one-dimensional offensive approach and bad fundamentals. -He loaded up on all right handed bats and no left handed bats. -He shoehorned Torres into the wrong position. -He rolled the dice on Kluber and Taillon and lost. -The farm is dried up.
  4. He's a free agent after this year.
  5. They saw something in him, and their vision has been pretty good.
  6. Personally I thought it was very curious that in the position the Yankees were in, Cashman would roll the dice on the rotation not once, but twice. The Red Sox were much more in a position to roll the dice, because we were expected to be a .500 team or thereabouts.
  7. "The experts say winners of 1 run games are simply lucky." That is not exactly what they say, I don't think. It's simply a well-documented statistical fact that even the best teams tend to be around .500 in one-run games, while winning much more of their share of blowouts. The larger the margin of victory, the less randomness comes into it.
  8. I don't know. It looks like he has shaken off the effects. Nobody knows much about long term effects. The big questions are how much he wants, and whether he would take somewhat of a discount to stay with the Sox.
  9. The complaints about Kike making $7 million have been rather ludicrous... Bloom knows what he's doing.
  10. I'm still hoping for Ort to help a bit in our bullpen this year and make it a trifecta.
  11. Yes, I know you have. You are very fair.
  12. Cashman's offseason bullpen moves-keeping Britton, adding O'Day and J. Wilson-have also bombed for various reasons. As some Yankee fans have noted, though, he did an excellent job bolstering the Red Sox bullpen.
  13. Kluber and Taillon SEEMED like potentially nice plays. But potential and a quarter get you a gumball.
  14. E-Rod is starting to look like the real E-Rod again.
  15. Sometimes the 'on paper' thing is quite meaningless. Kluber and Taillon were both big gambles with a huge range of possible outcomes. All you could really do was see what happens.
  16. I think he already is. And Henry and Werner probably deserve a few kudos for landing him.
  17. So Shaughnessy had a phone interview with Bloom. To Shaughnessy's credit, before getting into the interview he listed all the stupid things he had said about the 2021 Red Sox and confessed that he didn't know if Bloom would return his call. But Bloom returned it and gave a nice interview, while predictably not saying much. Shaughnessy was trying to get him to gloat a bit about pounding the Yankees and how badly the Yankees were looking, but Bloom wouldn't take the bait, he just laughed and said everybody takes their lumps in this business et cetera. The big takeaway was that Bloom is a cool, smart, nice guy.
  18. I'd be willing to bet he'll be more ramped up than that - obviously barring a health setback.
  19. I'm also looking at the fact the Yankees haven't finished below .500 since 1992. That's an impressive streak. The law of averages says that eventually, you're going to have a spell where nothing goes right.
  20. He's hitting 382/469/655 with Worcester. Why would you say that?
  21. Yes, I'm happy to miss them right now.
  22. It could be the Yankees are just going through one of those phases where nothing goes right. The Red Sox franchise has certainly had 'em.
  23. Even when you win 15-1 there has to be a whipping boy.
