Bloom likes Perez enough to sign him twice, and Perez is having a Perez season. Why would Bloom trade him?

Because we had a 5-1 lead. If it was 2-1 he probably gets hooked. An example of how when the manager hooks the starter has a big impact on their line.

I highly doubt they trade Richards or Perez. Bloom acquired them, I think he likes them.

I doubt it. He actually pitched pretty well for 5 innings last time out. If AC had hauled him after 5 it would have been one of your mini-quality starts with 5 IP and 1 ER.

Cordero is Bloom's guy, and he's looking better. I wouldn't rule out the possibility it's a Cordero/Dalbec platoon at first and no trade.

Now see here, Dean of Old School, if someone says they think ERA+ is a good stat, that means they take ERA seriously as a stat. And the adjustments that are made are common sense adjustments.

Yep, and he played in 2 hitter's parks, Comerica and Fenway, so it makes sense that his ERA+ is about average.

I think I'm just playing devil's advocate for something to do, if I'm honest about it. One thing's for sure - I'm ecstatic that we have Cora and they have Boone.

In the big picture, he's having about exactly the season you would expect Martin Perez to have.

His career ERA+ is 99. So in performance he was almost perfectly average.

I think ERA+ is an easy and sensible upgrade over ERA. All ERA+ does is adjust the ERA for things like the ballpark and the league averages for that year. It makes perfect sense because baseball does have a lot of quirks. The playing fields are all different dimensions, and run scoring goes up and down from year to year for various reasons.

Right, but: -iortiz keeps quoting Porcello's Fangraphs data as if it's the most valid. -Porcello pitched well in 2020 according to FanGraphs data.

One run lead, runners at seconds and third and no outs. If you play the infield in, you're also increasing the risk of a ground ball getting through and scoring two runs. I get your argument, but I think there is an argument against it too.
