  1. True. But the number of games between now and July 31 is pretty small compared to the number of games between now and the end of the season and the postseason. A lot of these deadline deals are not so much urgent needs as bolstering weaker areas.
  2. Is it all a media concoction? I don't know about that. I think history shows that most deals in July don't get done until close to the end.
  3. I think he would have gotten 3 years guaranteed for sure. If Liam Hendriks gets 4/54, Barnes has to get 3/36 or thereabouts. Assuming he continues to pitch well this year. He would be the best reliever on the free agent market.
  4. All it takes is one team though. Liam Hendriks's stat sheet didn't really merit 54 million, either.
  5. Who knew that cheating accusations could be so much fun, huh? One odd thing I've noticed is that whenever Aaron Judge does something to troll an opponent, it backfires.
  6. STORK sighting. There's one about every 6 months.
  7. The Astros scored 2 runs in first 26 innings of the series, and 6 runs in the 27th. That's baseball, baby! Crazy freakin' game.
  8. Even if you value Barnes at 75% of Hendriks, that's about 3 years and 40 million, which I think is a fair estimate.
  9. As you know, the differences in bWAR are much smaller. fWAR reliews heavily on FIP. If GM's valued fWAR as much as you seem to be suggesting, Rick Porcello would be in a major league uniform this year. after turning in a 1.7 fWAR in 59 innings last year.
  10. What's wrong with Hendriks as a comp? Looks like a pretty solid one to me.
  11. It's a valid question. I think you could say Cora was 'playing it halfway'. He was willing to use several of his better relievers to chase a comeback win, but didn't want to burn all of them. He wanted to hold back Ottavino and Barnes for today's game.
  12. Bring him up after Worcester season ends and let him get acclimated. It's a strategy that's been used many times. I hate to say it, but he's struggling mightily right now. No one is talking about trading him.
  13. You stop that LOL
  14. You're always going to be the only bidder when you sign a player to an extension. They thought it was a team-friendly deal, and I tend to think they were right, especially when you see what a lesser player like Lindor got. You're a fiscal conservative, I understand that too.
  15. Wow, was not expecting this. Bloom is da man.
  16. In 2013 the Dodgers signed a 25 year, $8.35 billion TV deal. They should be swimming in ridiculous amounts of money for a long time.
  17. Agreed. My theory is that they brought in a new baseball this year with slightly higher seams. The combination of the higher seams and Spider Tack pushed the spin rates through the roof. Alex Cora said at one point he had never seen breaking pitches breaking so much. When they looked at the data they freaked out.
  18. I did see it reported that MLB made a lot of attempts to warn players that action was coming and felt they were being ignored.
  19. The last guy the Yankees pushed the envelope with was Corey Kluber.
  20. Well, let's see. Nick Pivetta can be anagrammed into: Nate Pivtick
  21. That's not good news!
  22. Yeah, there's a reason they're paying him $36 million a year.
  23. I don't think it's that so much as they prematurely anoint certain guys they like as can't-miss stars.
  24. If it's 7 days, Duran is a bum. And now he's a bum with a possible health issue!
  25. Duran has a .636 OPS in July, and was scratched from last night's game with lower back soreness.
