  1. Ha, this is like the clutch-choke argument in reverse.
  2. I hear what you're saying, but last time out, Cora sent Houck out in the 6th to face the Rays' lineup the third time and they went single, homer, double. In today's game we had a 1 run lead, all our late inning guys ready to go. In my opinion it was clearly the correct move.
  3. Well, that's exactly right. It's always been that way. SPLINTER does not think Cora is a good manager at all, other than that players like him. But the amusing thing is, SPLINTER didn't think Francona or Farrell were good managers either. And yet those are the 3 guys who managed the team to their 4 rings in our lifetimes.
  4. moon, this is actually a lot like the CERA issue. Those numbers could mean something, or they could be random. But you tend to think they mean something. Kimmi thinks the lineup position comfort effect is real. Maybe it's all personal biases.
  5. Can't prove anything either way. So can't say 'likely are'.
  6. Eovaldi vs. Gil Beat the MFY's this time please.
  7. The question is whether a crucial game like this is the time to try it. Seems more like something you work on for 2022.
  8. And they jettisoned CERA champ Leon long ago.
  9. Houck's ERA by inning this year before today: 1 1.50 2 0.00 3 0.00 4 6.35 5 6.00
  10. Whitlock/Taylor/Barnes. I'm guessing not Otto, unless it's for 1 hitter (last out of inning).
  11. Overall vs RHP 770 Overall vs LHP 767 RHB vs RHP 777 LHB vs RHP 757 RHB vs LHP 803 LHB vs LHP 658
  12. Hard to say which fans get more excited about - a good signing, or a good DFA.
  13. Duran is playing a lot.
  14. I think it would be a tiny percentage. If you can come up with a tiny percentage of samples that fit, what does it show? That there's a tiny chance the postseason numbers can be attributed to randomness?
  15. I thought it was supposed to be the most comprehensive of all defensive stats?
  16. But we have the top UZR/150 in the AL.
  17. LHP + Baltimore RHP.
  18. Well, I'd like to see this applied to Kershaw. As I said, his worst monthly ERA is 2.84, so I'm not sure how you're going to generate a sample that has a 4.19.
  19. Nice whataboutism. People who say that about Yaz are what you call...stupid. Yaz also made the last out in the 1975 WS, BTW.
  20. Yes, the term "repeatable skill" is totally made-up and arguably useless.
  21. Yep, can't be proved, can't be disproved. I think we're in agreement on that. But all the stuff about computer generated random samples just seems like gibberish.
  22. Honestly, I don't even know what that first sentence means.
  23. But repeatable skill is not well defined. It's a term I've never heard used except in this context.
  24. The guy can swat the baseball when he connects, I must say.
