  1. They were 7-3 in their last 10, against the Jays and Yankees, at the closing bell on July 30.
  2. The players put that through their executive interpretation devices and got what Merloni said.
  3. And the 2021 Red Sox are helping his case. The idea is not without merit. Bloom did as much as say this is a first place team not worth investing further in.
  4. It was the right time to trade him. He's having a lot of injuries this year. Don't need another much more expensive Pedroia.
  5. Plus they had Arroyo injure his hammy in one game at first.
  6. Did anyone hit well in the Bronx?
  7. That statement certainly vindicates the Mookie trade.
  8. But so many baseball stats fluctuate tremendously, often to the point they look random. Like Bobby Dalbec's monthly OPS, for example.
  9. To receive or inflict?
  10. Well, you're right, I am going to say it. It makes no sense to believe in one of those things and not the other.
  11. Jeez mvp, that's only about the millionth time someone has said this. It's not exactly a revelation.
  12. I read your post, but you didn't actually provide a definition. You basically said repeatable skill means clutch doesn't exist.
  13. Kimmi, I asked for a definition of 'repeatable skill'. I don't see one in your reply.
  14. And why do you choose to believe that?
  15. Usage and effectiveness of the bullpen certainly plays a role in a team's W-L record. But a lot of times you win one or two run games when the bullpen does a crappy job. Sometimes the pen turns a 4 run lead into a 1 run win. Or sometimes the pen blows the lead in the top of the 9th and you score a run in the bottom of the 9th to win.
  16. Still doesn't make it useful. Please see my post #179 on the clutch/choke thread where I responded to your definition of a repeatable skill.
  17. 'Repeatable skill' is a term made up by some baseball stat nerds. I really don't have to respect it.
  18. Says the man who didn't recognize Norm Crosby's signature line.
  19. Things that are repeatable do not necessarily repeat ad infinitum. I'm hating the term 'repeatable skill' more all the time.
  20. And his strikeout to walk ratio is livable for the month of August.
  21. Let me see if I have this straight: -With "clutch", you have to prove it exists. -With lineup comfort, you have to prove it doesn't exist. No, I don't think that's fair, somehow. But maybe you can explain how to go about proving a negative.
  22. If he had started playing first base after the 2 weeks, sure. But they really had no clue where he was going to play, and so we have JD playing Keystone Cops in the outfield.
  23. But on deadline day, they were 7-3 in their last 10 games: 4-2 against the Jays 3-1 against the Yankees And in first place by 1.5 They were not looking bad at all.
  24. The series with the Rays didn't actually start until after the closing bell July 30 though. It's true they were wobbling some before the deadline, but since then they have been flat out horrible.
