  1. Heaney is projected to have a 1.9 fWAR in 2022. His numbers do suggest he's not as much of a bum as he looked with the Yankees last year.
  2. It's kind of a joke that he isn't. But the award is a joke anyway.
  3. Worst first signing ever.
  4. Right. Now if he had a positive fWAR, we could extrapolate it into a better number. But with a negative fWAR, it only gets worse...
  5. Freeman just completed an 8 year deal? Holy crap I'm old.
  6. The fact that Brasier had a -0.1 fWAR (4.84 FIP) in 2021 didn't help.
  7. If they sign Schwarber, they would pretty much have to pay some luxury tax this year. They could then conceivably get back under in 2023, when JD and Price come off the books. But we don't even know what the tax thresholds and rates will be yet.
  8. Up until last year with Stroman and Gausman, players accepting QO's were pretty rare. I don't think E-Rod will accept.
  9. As for Houck, he looks like one of those new hybrid vehicles...
  10. Bloom has said he envisions Whitlock as a starter, so it's going to be very interesting to see how they handle him next year.
  11. You keep saying it would be crazy to pay E-Rod 18 million, and it's a 10 million raise, after a bad year et cetera. People have tried to explain the logic behind it. That E-Rod's peripherals were better than his ERA. That comparable starters like Stroman are expected to get 90 million deals and so on. But you just keep beating the dead horse. You asked earlier about whether we could spend the 18 mill better, and I said yes, that is the right question.
  12. And Schwarber does have a higher career OPS+ than either of those two.
  13. What other better bats than Schwarber are available?
  14. I'm thinking about next year. I trust Bloom to think about the beyond.
  15. I think Old Red is about the only poster on Talksox who actually dislikes Schwarber.
  16. Wins are wins. JDM is worth 3 wins.
  17. Plus NFL football? I may have to make a run to the liquor store.
  18. Knowing Bloom's patience, we probably won't find out until a little after 4 PM CT.
  19. Yes, apparently those $1 million Whitlocks are easy pickings.
  20. My only reason to keep Kutter Crawford would be his name. Unfortunately, that was my same reasoning with Sam Travis.
  21. Today's the day we find out!
  22. Nick, this sentence makes it sound like you have no clue how the MLB payroll system works. Not a good basis for discussion.
  23. As far as I know, the answer to both questions is yes. We'll find out on the second one when the much-awaited 2021 lux tax announcement comes!
