  1. Very smart, maybe even brilliant. Maybe brilliant is a better word than genius. Genius is more about creativity, ergo Brian Wilson.
  2. You won't get much of a betting line on that prediction though.
  3. Cora doesn't have a Tom Brady or a Bill Russell to lead the team year in and year out LOL
  4. I think of Charlie as one of those 'fine line between genius and insanity' guys.
  5. I have to agree with SPLINTER that it's a word that gets used too liberally. I'm not sure I even want Cora to be a genius. I just want him to be super-competent, which I think he is.
  6. Yes, they did. But some pitchers got off to incredibly good starts this year. Chapman, for example had an ERA of 0.39 on June 6, with an absurd 43 K's in 23 innings. After Stickygate he fell off a cliff. We know that they also changed the baseballs this year, reportedly with higher seams. So I would speculate that the combination of state of the art sticky stuff and higher seams had a lot to do with some of the amazing starts.
  7. What we'll never know is the impact Stickygate had on certain pitchers.
  8. No, but I'd argue the best format was the one in existence from 1995-2011.
  9. There are also a ton more strikeouts. Add that to the walks, and you're going to have deeper counts and more pitches thrown.
  10. I'm 65, and I don't complain much about players' antics. But I've really noticed a change in how baseball players act on the field. It's almost like baseball is trying to be more like football.
  11. Brian was also a pretty good closer, with 172 career saves. But seriously, that was a good post.
  12. Renfroe was not hurt, but Cora did explain the decision. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2021/10/why-did-boston-red-sox-pinch-hit-danny-santana-for-hunter-renfroe-alex-cora-explains.html
  13. Houck was the key guy in last night's game. He took the mound in the 6th with a 3-1 lead. He's been great for us, but he didn't have it last night. If he was up to his usual standard I expect he would have pitched multiple innings.
  14. He'd still be doing it in Boston too, is my pointless hypothetical response to that.
  15. Statistically, no, this Dodger team isn't any better than last season's. However, I have a feeling they are going to steamroll the Braves this time around.
  16. You're such an idiot. It's only the fact that you're too stupid to be taken seriously that keeps your troll ass from being banned.
  17. There's way too much pimping and in-game celebrating in baseball now. A guy gets a base hit with his team getting blown out and he still has to make the big signal to the dugout. And frankly the Red Sox have been about as guilty of this as any team. In 2018 guys were doing a little shimmy dance for the dugout when they got a hit. Mookie came up with that sprinkle thing he does.
  18. I wouldn't say weird. They may have re-evaluated as they went along and decided to use him more like a regular high leverage bullpen guy. He ended up at 73 innings. Seems about right. And he has looked sharp in the postseason. Wouldn't you say they may have handled him just right?
  19. Seems like a few rumor-loving fools, including me, seized onto the words "stretched out", taking them to mean he was going to be starting this year. Actually, I think it might have been poster Nick who was leading the crusade on that one, wondering when the hell he was going to be having longer outings.
  20. Somehow it doesn't seem like an ideal playoff setup when the top 2 teams in wins meet in a first round short series.
  21. Bad comparison. If you said Papi made half as much as Price did in 2016, Papi's last year and Price's first with us, that would be a fair comparison.
  22. They overpaid for Price because they had such a desperate need for a #1 starter at the time.
  23. The Red Sox already said the plan was for Whitlock to become a starter, so I do expect to see that next year.
  24. Taking away the 2018 playoffs, no. Including the 2018 playoffs, yes.
  25. Right. Instinctively it seems to make sense to put one in the rotation and one in the pen.
